Man, it took a long time to clean up that credit report...those stupid pre-approved cards from the college days, lagging a payment here and there on a car...but today I got that magic phone call saying I was approved :)
My rent is $675, my mortgage payment, with taxes added and everything...$698. Woohoo!

Congratulations! I've got a happy surprise for you, when it comes to be tax time next year, you'll find that the benefits of owning a home translate out to moolah back. Your actual monthly will end up being LOWER then your rent, based on the numbers you gave. PLUS, the value of the home you own will increase, so there's MORE money you get back. Owning is the way to go, congratulations!

Sweeeeet....
And I just called Skuzzy a while back to shut my account down hehe...turn off all the perkie-poos until Im certain I can afford it all. Closing is slated for April. The lady there now, a widow, wants to be a snowbird and move to florida but doesnt want to move in the middle of the winter. No worries! Let's me save up.

Congratulations LePaul!!!! My wife and I just went through the same thing last year. You think you're excited now, wait until move in day. :) Sit back and enjoy the fruits of your work!

lol
And thanks...can't wait. Saving and saving..and buying new things...new kitchen table, etc...things that wont survive another move...the venerable Entertainment Center, etc

bloody hell...I wished I payed that much a month!
The rent for our apartment is $800 a month, and we're looking for a far bigger/better place..
My wife and I are saving for a mortgage at the moment...but sydney housing prices are pretty steep...so we just keep pluggin away trying to get our deposit up as high as possible. We figure $50k plus is a good start...not far now, but with the average price of a good sydney home $500k+ it's a bit of a haul. We figure the monthly repayments to be about $1700 (average).

pay 2x that but that is pretty reasonable for Southern Cal.
WTG Lepaul.. House? Condo?
-
I hear ya Tronski, I'm waiting for the approval of our mortgage of approx 1700 Euro per month for a 400.000 Euro flat in Barcelona: 4 rooms, 2 restrooms, 100 sq. mts in total. (110 with terrace).
In Barcelona, the cheapest you can find a 100 sq. meter home is about 240.000 Euro in the outskirts. :(

100sq mt. = about 1000 sqft. That's SMALL!

Congrats! Its nice to write that check each month and know its an investment rather than a payment. WTG Lepaul!

LePaul - shoot me an Email if you have any questions - I do this for a living - dont let the broker screw you! :D
Congrats!

WTG LePaul. Most of that payment is going to be interest for a while but soon you will be paying large chunks to yourself in the form of equity. Renting is just tossing money away, in my opinion.

Rip,
Since I raz you the most, I will require your assistance this summer when I opt to carpet my garage.
R2 is very fussy about what linty surface touches his toes :)
Midnight...a 3BR house. Dont have the fact sheet on hand, cant recall the style, etc
What's awesome is it has all new appliances and the widow is leaving them all behind. All part of the deal. Very well insulated home too.
I'm pretty excited.
As Kieren mecntion on my forums (http://forums.checksix.net/forum_posts.asp?TID=1411&PN=1) , I dont know how i'll sleep tonight!

Saturday night we had a big birthday party for my 8 y/o in the "Carpeted Garage" (Its heated too). All the neighbors raved about it, and another has asked me to help him do the same with his. It makes a nice recreation room if you do it right. :) You'll have to invest in some car matts though, rubber and carpet do not like each other ;)
-
Chairboy,
Thanks but we already have the RV. I'm just getting a semi tractor to tow it with. I'll add a few things and convert it to a motorhome so I'll have a motorhome towing a 5th wheel with my motorcycle behind the cab. :)

Homes are great, congtrats! Then you have days like today, where there is 4" of snow on the ground that needs to be removed, and the garage door decides to strip its gearing (not related to the snow) at the same time. Need to put some new weather stripping on the kitchen door, better do that sooner than later. The aging water heater is a worry. Then there was the Raccoon in the attic over the summer and the dead central air. And my house was almost fully rennovated and in great shape when I bought it. It helps to be handy (which I am), or have a bank full of surplus cash (which I had before the house). :)
Positives outweigh the negatives though.
