Howdy all. Just discovered this game. I have downloaded the file, and as soon as I dig my joystick out of its box, will enjoy being a target....err...flying with/against you all soon.
So is there a sticky post somewhere that explains all of the acronyms and abbreviations unique to AH ? (I figgered that one out all by myself):p
Howabout ac/vehicle/ship controls? Is there a readme in the zip file (which I admit I haven't opened yet.
Glad to see I can play offline to get a feel for the flight models, been a looong time since I've had a chance to fly ANY sim.
Look forward to learning a lot, and doing many an impression of a lawndart.
I understand you have ACM trainers? Need all the help I can get, I'm a bit spoiled from playin nuthin' but EF2k for the last couple years. BVR kills don't do a lot for your ACM skills. :D
Anyway, look forward to meetin' ya all in the sky, on my wing or in my sights.
Cheers,
Spitter

Hi spitter.
HTC's help page: http://www.hitechcreations.com/helphom.html
There is a link to the HTC help file on this page - a worthwhile read.
Netaces.org is an excellent help page for learning AH as well. Covers most of the stuff in AH, from beginner to advanced. That's where you'll learn about a lot of the online culture (abbreviations, etc).
I'd recommend starting out either offline or in the online training arena until you get a decent grasp of how the planes handle (takeoff, basic maneuvers)
Good luck, don't be afraid to ask for help here.
:)

Howdy, Spitter.:D Ditto what Tarmac said.

Spitter, download the AH helper .EXE file.
As part of your inauguration, you will be advised in the text buffer to hit Alt-F4. Don't fall for it.
You are also required to go to the O'Club, where you will need a working knowledge of gun control laws in various countries around the world, and there you will learn why it's safer to be unarmed in an unarmed society than armed in an armed society.
You will meet Lazs in those threads, but he's OK. :aok
If you need any tips on cutting and pasting, Ripsnort is your man.
The 13th/TAS are an entertaining bunch. But they will respect you only if you fly their way. ;) We have guys in TAS like Slapshot, Rude, Mars01... and Mr. Toad. There are very few handles which I prefix with a Mr. In Mr. Toad's case it's because he is our learned friend, historian and raconteur who is never wrong. Mistaken sometimes, misguided on occasion, but never wrong. :)

Thanks fer the reception. :)
Tryin to figger out how much of beet1e's post was tongue in cheek. heh. :p
A little info about the handle: It is actually the real life handle of a good friend of mine. She's an F-16 driver.....test pilot for the USAF in Tucson, AZ. Hope I do it justice.
Cheers,
Spitter

LOL, I 'd love to hear the story of how she got coined with that handle!

Fear the rook mustang!
Oh, and have fun.

you have also just seen what might be beetles shortest and least pompous post so far. Normally you can multiply the number of words in his sig by 10 or so to get even a short beetle post.
You will learn in the o club why some feel that it is much more important to feel safe than it is to be free.

then theres me...the best advice is to just ignore me...or at least keep smiling and back slowly towards the door

Don't listen to beet1e ... he is a good guys but very easily confused.
We ... the 13th don't care how you fly or how anybody else flys ... we just enjoy fights and those who do fight ... were not crazy about runners and the timid ones.
Did she tell you how she aquired the callsign "Spitter". My imagination is running away with me and I need to set straight.
Welcome ... have fun ... If you fly Knights (best country) and you see me up and you have some questions ... don't hesitate to ask.
-
Welcome and what Slap said about help if ya need it.
Best piece of advice--the Bugs at 30k are irritating and no amount of chemical seems to get rid of the stain on your cockpit.
Oh yea they almost always come in hordes or run in hordes depending how you look at it:)
cya up Spitter

I'm "Mr" Curval.
See my sig as to why. ;)
Welcome.

vorticon.. if you defend yourself you won't be dead. if you are alive and not free you might as well be dead.
spitter.... f16? believe me... if we had an f16 in here the sky accountants would be using it and wanting the fields even further apart so that they could use it to it's best advantage.

Spitter has probably quit already - who'd want to fly with this bunch of nutters? :)

Lazs,
Being free isn't much use if you're dead.

Welcome to AH :D

vorticon.. if you defend yourself you won't be dead. if you are alive and not free you might as well be dead.
agreed...but should people be so free that they can easily remove the freedom of another???
oh and in my previous post i forgot to say
welcome to ah
-
...otherwise, I wind up having to clean my monitor.
Thanks to all, for the wit/sarcasm, and links. :)
I can just imagine what all you perverts (correct me if I'm making too bold an assumption here;)) are thinking about the handle, and I can probably safely say that, because it's exactly what I thought when she told me her callsign. :D
Actually, in modern AF terms, it's a term of endearment used for really aggressive pilots. She is not one to pass on a fight, regardless of numbers or odds. I can vouch, after studying in the same Tae Kwon Do class for the better part of 3 years. :aok I got the bruises to prove it!
I was a bit dissapointed, and yet oddly intrigued, when I was told the real meaning of the name.
Ya'll have a good one.
Cheers,
Spitter

Spitter!
Welcome to Aces High....er...um...don't let the above posts scare you...really...they're all harmless.
You might also assume after reading some of these posts that some are refugees from Methadone Clinics......and if you've already assumed this....you'll fit in nicely. :aok
-
Welcome Spitter.
(the game is WAY more fun than reading this BB);)
-
She is not one to pass on a fight, regardless of numbers or odds
Well then according to Zazen she must be a terribly stupid fighter pilot and she has no business being a fighter pilot.
See this thread ...
http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=106597
Sounds like she is a hoot !!! Try to sign her up ... she might have some fun ... there are many pilots playing this game and also a handfull of fighter pilots.
Thanks for the explanation of the callsign ... I feel better now ... :D

I once dated a girl named spitter... oops sorry, that was what I called her after our first date. She told me to eat more salad...

Dernit, lost my methadone.

Welcome to the monkey farm. I hope you enjoy your stay.
Work the ACM, and forget killing the buildings, they don't fight back.
-
Well, I'm registered! Unfortunately, "Spitter" was already taken.
So you'll see me flyin' as SquidODeath. :D
I'll probably spend a couple weeks offline learning the flight model, so I won't lawndart on takeoff and embarrass myself too much.
Took a little...err..spin :D in the P-51 last night. Ouch....might as well have been flying a frisbee.
Need to print out the controls and find a good setup for my MS FFB joystick, so any suggestions are welcome.
Cheers,
Spitter

ms ffb2?
if so i have several files you may be interested in.
xxx.hps (head position setting - adjusted views)
stick.cfg - j/s scaling and deadband/dampers
jsmap - joystick button mapping
the only ffb effects i ahve enabled would be stall and buffet, both around 35%.
post your email if you want any of these files.
-
Do all you stick settings in game (don't use the MS utility). Run the "Trim" Force Feedback slider all the way to zero, or your stick will tend to shake a lot.
-
methadone!?
I trust nothing that hasn't got a clear lineage back to opium.
I thought for a second that this post would turn into yet another AH BBS flying politics extravanganza.
Seems Spitter was too intelligent to bite.
Good.
Welcome Spitter, and have fun.
Never forget to have fun.
-
My email is in my profile. But feel free to send me something:
fastlane5@excite.com
Any help with settings is greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, I can only give one person $10 off thier account.
I haven't even figured out how to select a different plane to fly offline yet. :p
I did notice when I was runnin' down the runway, the 'stang woud really lurch to the left, then after the tail came up, want to pull hard to the right. Is that the flight model, or is my stick messed up somehow? It seems to fly relatively well once I'm airborne and have some speed.
Cheers,
Spitter
-
It's torque Spitter.
You can correct with a little rudder input.
to select a different aircraft..from the clipboard (hit escape key to bring that up) click on hangar and highlight the plane you want to fly. From the hangar you can also select fuel and ammo/ord loadout.
Cheers,
and welcome to AH :)

We'll if it was squirter then I my mind would be going crazy lolh:D
Like slap said the TAS don't care how you fly, what you fly or where you fly as long as you fight!!!:D Get it right Beet1e.
Welcome squid,
BTW - so what is the story behind spitter?
-

The pony really wants to go left on roll. Some aileron and a stout foot on the rudder will correct this. I never have the plane pull to the right(when it's in one piece). Could be a trim problem, joystick calibration?
As the surfaces begin to fly, ease off the right rudder steadily, not all at once, see if this gets rid of the tendency for it to go right.
I'm not making any claims at expertise, but look me up any time if ya want some pony help. :)

THAT'S IT!!! I've been wondering what's the matter with my msff. I can be cruisin' along, mindin my own business, in level flight, when suddenly my stick gets the serious shakes. As soon as I get home this evening I'm gonna reset my Trim slider. Thanks Zanth.

Hey guys, thanks again. The setting files really helped. I gotta get some real rudder pedals though. the twisting stick thing just doesn't work that well with the MS force feedback. It's kinda all or nothing as far as I can tell.
Still trying to figure the best way to map my buttons, the default settings seem awfully odd to me.
I figured it was torque, and it was, I found the best way to correct the torque on the P51 was to fly the 38.... :D
Been doing a little offline flying to get the hang of the flight model, I'll probably be online in a couple weeks, when I get some serious time to dedicate to this thing.
So one more dumb question....(well, for now) How do I map/change the buttons? I looked into the joystick settings, and THOUGHT I did it right, but when I jumped back into the plane, nothing seemed to change.
Oh yeah, and what the heck is auto-combat trim?
Cheers,
Spitter aka SquidODeath
It's good to make new friends, even if you have to kill them sometimes.

The introduction of AH II is nearing. You might want to download that also and see if your machine/video card will handle the new game before you get all torqued up.
Auto-combat trim allows you to fly the plane without having to do any trimming. It self trims the plane to its best ability. Planes like the P-39 SUCK on auto-combat trim. The 38 needs to be manually trimmed, while planes like the Spit fly very nicely using the auto-trim.
Also, look in your settings and TURN OFF the Stall Limiter. With this on, no matter how hard you yank on the stick, it will prevent your plane from entering, maybe, a purposeful stall while dogfighting.

Spitter ...
A little advise on the handle "Spitter". When I first joined AH the handle "SlapShot" was also taken. I went back thru all the tours (scoring page) and found that someone used that handle about a year before I joined, but had never used it since.
I sent an email to HTC (Yankee is the one you want to talk to) explaining that I would really appreciate the use of this handle. I also proved to her that the handle was not active for quite some time and with that, could I obtain the handle. No problem ... hence the handle "SlapShot".
I went back thru the "score" page and I cannot see any stats for "Spitter" in any tour. This leads me to believe that this handle was created by someone who did the 2 week trial and decided not to play. If you really want that handle, I would think that a cordial email or a cordial call to the HTC office would result in you getting that handle.
Just a thought ... <>

It can be made available Spitter. Just drop an email to support@hitechcreations.com We can work it out.
Welcome aboard.

Shane you think the deadband / dampers would work on MS PP2 non force feedback? been having a hard time with nosebounce lately and do not know how to fix it, thanks

ah sitck setting ms ffb2 (http://www.onpoi.net/ah/pics/users/ah_150_1075496191.zip)
be sure to copy/move current stick.cfg file to a safe place so you can revert back easily if this doesn't do it for you...
you might need to weak the deadband/dampers a bit.
it'd take serious stick stirring to get the do not move controls rapidly message under this; you'll also still see some nose wobble when you're very slow, but then who doesn't?
hope it helps.

thanks shane, will give em a go.
