A well-placed source says that the president will “most likely” drop Dick Cheney from his re-election ticket and his first choice for a replacement is former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani.
“The issue of Cheney’s health will probably be given as the reason,” says the insider. “There’s a short list of possible replacements, and Rudy is at the top of the list.”
The source adds that the selection of the former New York mayor may be overridden by Bush advisors from the far right. “Giuliani has been pro-choice, pro-gay rights, and is pretty liberal on some other social issues, but the thinking is that he might broaden Bush’s appeal.”
If, however, Giuliani gets bumped from the ticket, says the source, “expect him to get a prime assignment in Washington as an consolation prize.”
Bush’s rep didn’t return calls, and a spokeswoman for Giuliani said, “Rudy Giuliani has been out in Iowa and New Hampshire talking about the incredible accomplishments of Vice President Dick Cheney with George Bush and working very hard to get them both re-elected.”

Never happen.
The US is not ready to elect an Ethnic Veep. Theres too many folks in the US who would not vote for him because his last name ends in a vowel.
It's unfortunate, too.
I think hes a very intelligent man and i agree with him on alot of issues including his so called liberal social issues.
-
Disagree. This country is ripe for an ethnic VP.
-
Ethnic concerns will be greatly outweighed by Giuliani's popularity gain in the wake of 9/11. I tend to think this move would have dems very worried.

How about making Bush Giuliani's VP? :p
That might get my vote.
-
Don't think it would hurt Bush in the least. It's still his race to lose.
I don't believe the health story though. Cheney sees a goldmine to be had in the middle east.
-
“The issue of Cheney’s health will probably be given as the reason”
Says to me that if he is dropped, that will be the stated reason. The real reason he should be dropped is because of his eyebrow-raising ties to halliburton, his questionable role in the country's energy policy, and my general opinion that he's a scumbag. :)

I'd vote for Bush/Cheney as everything stands now.
I'd vote for Bush/Giuliani without a second thought and then vote for Giuliani when he ran for President in 2008.
If I were a Dem I'd start digging for mob ties.

That would be pretty hard to find, I think.
Giuliani was the District Attorney here in NYC before he was mayor.
If memory serves me, he prosecuted Gotti a few times as well as several other Mob bigs.
Does not mean he could not have been on the take, but I doubt it. The Dems would have found mob ties when he was going to run against Hillary for senate.
-
If asked I'm sure he'd jump at it. Other than that, Giuliani for NYS Senator in 06. Bye bye Hillary? We shall see.

Then maybe they could find a picture of Hitler standing defiately in front of the Eiffel Tower and paste it next to a picture of Giuliani in a similar pose on 9/11 infront of some building that wasnt knocked down?
GIULIANI IS HITLER TOO!
A customer of mine knows Giuliani pretty well - they have dinner once every 6 months or so. He speaks very highly of the man on both a personal and political level.

2 me, it sounds like its another way 2 get votes..

I would think with Giuliani's profile and popularity you could run the Giuliani and Bush as VP combo and win
Tronsky

I think that ticket would be better too. But then... that'd only guarantee republicans in the whitehouse for the next 8 years, not 12.

chenny is real man behind the power of the office. even if carl rove asks him to step down to avoid the haliburtin scandels he will still have power. Dems like guliani, pro life, pro gun control WOOPIE!
Dont forget that source is shady as hell.
-
<<<<< the haliburtin scandels >>>>
WOW, does CNN know about this, maybe you should tell them.
-
Bush/Giuliani
If I wanted to vote for 2 liberals I would go Democrat.
-
Better wake up, John. The Democratic candidates are already muttering "Haliburton" and casting aspersions towards Bush in that regard... or who do you think they are referring to when they talk about tax cuts "for a few rich friends"?
"Scandal" is hyperbolic, so is "tax cut for only the wealthiest", but that's the name of the game in politics. I'm still trying to figure out how my household's combined income in any way could be considered among the wealthiest in the country (two school teachers in rural Southern Indiana!), but hey, the Dems tell me we are among the very most fortunate financially. That's what terrifies me about their vision the most, I suppose... they think I make too much, and they feel justified in taking even more from me and giving it to "the poor" (who the hell are "the poor", anyway?), leveling society out. If I'm rich, what level is fair for everyone? Shudder.
Hey, hyperbole IS fun!
-
Good point.
Last I heard, 'Middle Class' would be more accuratly defined as 'Poverty Stricken' according to most politicians whining about tax cuts for the 'Weathy,' which, as far as I can tell, you qualify for if you make over $35,000 a year.
All us 'rich' guys are going to be standing in line for our Enzo's this year.
