The gv stuff is boring most of us to death,  another few weeks and we will surrender. Grab a Tiger, whatever. Whole place is turning into a mini MA.

We were making good progress too, #s are up in the CT, we had squad nights that were regular, and now its "attack of the halftracks". One step forward and two back.

Finn-Russ tuesday night was pathetic. Last night wasn't much better.

Just a theory............. Back to back Russian Front scenarios suck.

Hey Shane, this may come as a suprise to you, and many others. There are not a lot of real pilots in AH. Everybody uses the word pilot pretty freely, to describe themselve's or others. In reality were not flying, but playing a glorified video game.
I'm sure there are a few more, but the only real pilots I know in AH, are Duke , and LtMagee. In fact Magee flies for a living.

However as far as jacking your stick....... Shane your one of the best I've  ever seen.:aok

Let me add a couple to that in VF-17 we have Talliven who drives airliners, and we have a former Marine F-4 Phantom backseater (Phantom4) who most likely has stick time. I have a few rides in Blackhawks as a passenger but thats nothing compared to driving people from place to place or putting it on the line to protect our country.

yes, i know.  didn't he post a pix of one of his crashes?

besides what does any of that have to do with a game? i mean it's not like he's out there doing acrobatic maneuvers.

and thirdly, where was the word "pilot" even mentioned in this thread? ohhhhh there it is;  i never claimed to be a fighter pilot. i do claim, however, that i push the virtual toys we're given to the very edge (and occasionally beyond) of their coded performances.

who knows what kind of r/l pilot i'd be... probably a dead one, cuz i can't see myself being satisfied with driving a sky-taxi. i'd probably get stupid with some kind of acrobatic plane. one of these days i'll check out that aces of america or whatever, sounds like a blast - hope i don't ram the other guy!

:aok  <--- who knows what the meaning of this might be? ;)

The vice president of the company I work for did Aces of America thing last year down in Houston. Said it was a blast. Yep thats as close as I'll ever get to a real dogfight. I'm hoarding peenies for it now.

I want everybody to know Magee did not offer an apology, he offered an apolagy. It must be some custom they have in Georgia.:p

LtMagee vs Jg3 for January 2004

How do you find your stats vs a squad or certain players?
Title: My Apolagy
Post by: 1Duke1 on January 28, 2004, 10:58:54 PM
Unfortunately being an actual pilot can be a somewhat of a disadvantage, at least for me, and as a result, I still suck as a sim pilot:D

The biggest factor missing for me is the seat-of-the-pants feel that you have and rely on when dogfighting in a real plane.  There is so much a plane will tell you through your butt and your hands that can never be replicated by a simulator.  This is a key reason that ACM is never taught to fighter pilots in the simulator.  One exception being out of control flight where the simulator is used to train muscle memory responses to OCF.  Also as a standing rule, fighter aircraft will never intentionally be flown in OCF, except during the test and evaluation period by test pilots.

The biggest factor I have seen in this game to flying well is knowing what your plane can and can't do, and what the plane you are flying against can and can't do.  Know when to stay in a fight, know when to bug, and know when to call for help:)

Anyways, my $.02

on the stats page...

click player stats arrow and a drop down menu will appear with various options...    a 2nd column with drop down menu will appear to the right when you pick one of the "vs" options on the left ...

then on the left drop dpwn select the 2nd part of the vs...

to find your score vs a squad... type in the squad vs and add the squad CO's name.

My sentiments exactly.  I do not care for Eastern front setups, including the vaunted "Finn-Russ" setup which everybody seems to love so much that it runs about once a month.  I know its a great map and plane set but its getting a little stale IMO.  I also understand that you can't make everybody happy every week and I usually will fly in setups that are not my favorites, but I just can't take two consecutive weeks of the Eastern Front.  Nothing against those that like Eastern front setups but they are not my cup of tea.

Whatever happened to BOB?

I'll let Duke answer what he flew. The USN, and USMC , do the F-14 , and F-18. Duke being a Sailor , means he flew the Tomcat or, Hornet. I think the Navy does have a few F-16s, but they are used as aggressor aircraft, at Top Gun school.

The Air Force is the big user of the F-16 Falcon, along with the F-15 Eagle.

Again Shane, I never claimed to be , not even a good sim pilot, however, you keep saying that I am not. So with this I must defend myself...at least a little.

Sure, you say I can not dogfight so most if not all of my kills come from cherry pick'en..well I am sure there are many guys that read this that know different. They know it, and I need not say much further to make you grit ur teeth...but I will anyway.

Some of my best stats:

June 2003
Tempest
73 Credits
  7 Deaths

F4U-1D
38 Credits
  4 Deaths

July 2003
P-40
56 Credits
  2 Deaths

Sept 2003
P-38L
34 Credits
  3 Deaths

F4U-1D
30 Credits
  1 Death

Sept 2002
A6M2
80 Credits
34 Deaths

I am sorry you dont believe me about the nose bounce stuff. Most is gone now but flying these sim birds at stall speed...well...what 1Duke1 said!

Anyway, back to the topic.

The Apology (sorry Lowe) was for me being such a GV dweeb. I let the silly base capturing decide my playing strats instead of enjoying the dogfighting. However, remove the JG3 base capture, and the furballing (not "dogfighting")...and there is nothing left

Why does it bother you that they capture bases? It doesnt bother me, not to the point where I will put my squad in gvs for a whole night.

Base capture sucks, and does not belong in the CT.  The most fun I have had is planning b17 missions deep into germany to hit factories.

The most realistic, fun fights, ever.

Erg,

Flew the F-14B.  Really miss it, but things happen for a reason.  It will be a sad day when the F-14 is finally phased out, I personally believe it was a very bad decision by the Navy.

Lowe,

I'm not 100% positive, but don't think Navy aggressor's are flying the 16's anymore.  I do know F-5's, and F-18's are primary Aggressor aircraft.  There was one aggressor squadron still flying A-4's, but not sure if it has been de-commed or not.

I personally believe it was a very bad decision by the Navy.

It always seems someone wants to "phase out" a bad-ass plane. Like the A-10 before Desert Storm. Or even the F-111.

Yeah Duke, I wasnt sure if that what the Navy did with them or not. I know I saw one at Davis Monthan AFB in 1992. It was painted in the Soveit style camo scheme, so I assumed the Navy used it for an aggressor aircraft. Could have also been a test bird of some kind. Hey Slash , this was post Desert Storm, and I was standing on top of an A-10 preping it for an engine change.

Actually the 27th FW " Flying Tigers" , or 23rd I can't remember sent it's A-10s. Also the wing I was in at the time  the 602nd ACW, sent  OA-10's, which is just an A-10 used for FAC duties, to Desert Storm.

I can also add a couple of real life pilots that fly AH..
One is sb1086 who is a active duty US Navy Lt. Cdr that flies F-14 Tomcats and then there is Carlee she also is an active duty pilot that drives F-18 Hornets.
:)
