I'm getting on pretty well with the spit V's, I've reworked most of the cockpit instrumentation, and have made some progress on wing panels.
Piccie shows where I've got to so far. The gymbal compass was created from scratch, with reference to a photograph. Took 6 and a half hours!

nice...

GReat! I love to see cockpits being redone. I redid the pony cockpit because I felt it was too much like the ah1 cockpit.
-
Very nice, Fidd! :D

Very nice Fidd!
Question, do you think it would be possible to re-gauge the Imperial dials to Metric whilst keeping accuracy? (109s etc.)
Also, do you have a list of which aircraft you'd like to see reskinned?
-
WTG Fidd! That is looking VERY cool! I wish something like this could be done on all the planes in the MA.
The limits of the current AH2 unfortunately will probably make cockpits like that offline only. :(

I'm planning to do a similar job on the Spit IX, Spit I and 109e, and possibly f eventualluy. When this skin is finished I should be able to turn out certainly spit V's very rapidly on request.
Regarding gauges, yes, I'm planning to put historically accurate gauges, or at least the style of gauges, for each aircraft. The problem is that you need to have the needle deflection equal the same speed/altitude etc no matter what dial face it has. Metrification shouldn't present a problem, although there may be issues with the 10,000 foot counter.

Youch! I suggest upping the pic in a jpg format, Fidd - long time to load!
The guages look absolutely stunning - it is beautiful!! :)
If somebody makes a collective skin site running for AH2 skins(*hint hint* anyone?), I'll bet "Fidd's Custom Interiors Pack" will become one of the most popular downloads!
...
About the possibilities of seeing them in the game;
I asked the question and got this answer.

HiTech
Now, the guages itself, seems to be off limits for online play, as HT puts it. However, he does say 'possible interior' - which suggests the possibility of a clever work around: leave the gauges untouched, but beef up the details on the interiors, so it creates a good, immersive feeling despite the generic/yard-ft-mile guages.
My suggestion is, try making two versions of the cockpit - where the interiors are touched and strengthened in detail, modified and accomodated to create the best historic illusion even with the generic guages.. and a separate interiors for offline playing complete with historic guages. :)

i am working on new exteriors using photographs, and they are coming toghether pretty good. I would like to see some ah skinners unite, some working ontextures, others working on gauges to make the ultimate cockpit..hehe
-
He won't like Rita Hayworth then. That was sodding hard to do. Half the picture is on the RPM gauge at one resolution, the other an the fascia at a different one. I think it looks good though!Rita Hayworth (http://www.mthuff.clara.net/ah/ahss16.jpg)

Progress so far, Spit V's cockpit virtually finished.

A skinning genius! I'm salivating, Fidd :)

Wow... I'd really like to see the complete work keep us updated bud!

Umm.... Aehm... Makes me wonder... Shouldn't the magnettos be set ON during flight actually? :lol
-
Kick prettythang panel Fidd,
Love the pic nice touch:D
-
I would say great job but in all honesty I don't have a clue as to what the default AH spit 5 cockpit/instrument panel looks like.
Can’t bring myself to slip into the required pink tutu.
:D

WOW, i think HT has somethin great on their hands, with some of the quality im seeing, this will make their job alot easier, and make players more happy!
-
wow
with a panel like this HT just cant say NO!
-
Bugger, hoped no-one would notice that! Easily corrected, on my "to do" list

Fidd, nice work
couple questions
Oil pressure guage should be not red?
same as outline for oil temperatire guage?
now looks brown
and i think outline on guagues is too big

Btw... maybe remove the lensflares from the gauges since having a glare in the pit at midnight... sure looks odd... but then again.. it's a spitty pit... ;)

I've looked at colour photographs of several Spitfires cockpits, the style and colour of those gauges vary enormously, partly because the "bakerlite" (early plastic) naturally varied in colour, but also because it was very vulnerable to discolouration from petrol and UV light. Consequently, I've had to make a best guess at a truish colour. I agree the surrounds may be fractionally large, but doubt I'll revisit them, mainly because those gauges of course should be RAD and OIL temperature not pressure, and of course they more properly reside on the starboard side!
However, working within the limitations of the pre-existing AH2 instrument textures and functionality, I've tried to create the flavour of, and where possible, the actual instrumentation of, a Spit V, as well as to obscure or modify a few of the "generic" AH2 instruments which, to my eyes, didn't look right!
It is a necessarily a "cluster-compromise" if you follow my meaning!

i know so compromises are need to be done, but in every point where we can. We whould keep historkical look, special with so nice pice of artwork you doing now
I was inside spit mk16 and did not notice any red or yellow guages.
Have you Aerodetails book about spit mk1 to 5? som nice opictures of interior are there from various version of spitfire.
If you need references mail me

Just 2 pictures (1 inset) shows considerable variety, I have more......

Indeed, I have many many many photographs of mk 5 cockpits, and all I've discovered is that no 2 are the same!

I'm not just doing cockpits, I'm doing the whole Spit V btw, and hope to be able to turn out loads of 'em once the layers are finished. Did a lot of rivet-work tonight and wrap-checking. Another few days work at least before I'm finished though. The cockpit's pretty well finished, just the ASI and Accelerometer left to do, and adding "grime".
-
Keep up the GREAT work Fidd ... can't wait to fly it !!!
-
Here are 3 screenshots as the outer-skin takes shape, roundels and markings need adding, and dependant on the particular aircraft modelled, the black walk-stripes may be deleted. Smoke and lighting effects also need adding yet. Note the oil gauges have changed colour, a new fuel-gauge.
