Warbirds is offering $13.95 a month for all its arenas plus a two-week free trial for new and former members. So I checked the number of players on line at 1 p.m. for Warbirds, Fighter Ace, and Aces High:
(opening the envelope), ladies and gentlemen, the results:
Warbirds 34 (including Dawn of Aces and Armored Assault)
Fighter Ace 47
and ...
Aces High 206
I think I'll stick with Aces High.

260 on Hyperlobby playing FB. :p
-
Please, no acronyms until first spelling out, i.e., what is FB?
-
IL-2 Forgotten Battles
BTW Batz should mention not all of the 260 are in the SAME arena.
-
And Halo for got to mention that FA's 47 wernt in the same arena . (if they get 200 in a arena the whole thing turns into a lagfest)

So, even with 206 in Ah you aren't fighting them all. Whether the numbers are spread out on the 4 corners on the map as in AH or 32 guys in 1 small map (tiny by AH size) as in FB it’s the level of action that matters. A DF map in FB with 32 folk has a ton of fighting going on. Where in Ah 60% are flying into the ground after those pesky Fuel tanks. :p
YMMV
-
Batz!
Have a question I have IL2FB and love it. Is it ez to fly online?
Connections stable? What's your take?
-
It depends on the Host. For DF try GreaterGreen or the VirtualPilots server. Some hosts run scripted DF where there are "resets" based on planes and pilots lost. Some are just FFA. Try to fly with host who use a dedicated server.
There are Coops, single missions. There are a number of online wars that are mission based are combined into a campaign/war etc. Host setting vary from full difficulty to arcade and everything in between
Make sure you are patched up to 1.22 and DL hyperlobby and try it out its free. There 650 folk on hyperlobby right now.

where is the warbirds website for download of the game?

Well all of that furball-furball action would get pretty damn boring to me... imo And to get any kind of a "mission" going you would be required to play in offline mode correct?
-
As I said above there are scripted DF servers that actually "reset" to another map when the victory conditions are met. These usually involve airfield attack and airframe and pilot losses.
There are Coops, which are missions run with objectives. Then there are online wars which are long campaigns spanning the various time periods and maps. Something like AH2:ToD espouses to be with ranks, scores etc......
Heres 2 of umm
Virtual Eastern Front (VEF) (http://66.114.65.249/vov/site/main.htm)
Virtual Online War (http://www.vow.de.sr/)
-
I just gave totals for all arenas in AH, FA, and WB. Point was overall apparent appeal of the main business.
260 for Il-2 Forgotten Battles is impressive. Haven't checked that out but maybe I should.

So .... What your saying is that FB'ers are better jabo'ers than AH'ers, (in accordance our fuel porkers die more)?? Now thats outrageous!! Show me proof Wotan Proof!!
:)
I've never played FB, but i have played IL-2 (1st Version) and that wasnt played on Hyberlobby.. Too bad my comp couldnt handle it, but it looked like a cool game back in the day. Maybe when i update i will check it out, but i cant criticize a game that i never played, gameplay issues etc...

Don't you like the p38 now?

<-- P-51 Dweebo :)
But nonetheless eye candy is extraordinary..
-
Only problem with FB and hyperlobby is its very difficult to find a decent game, ie 95% play with major relaxed realism.
And the waiting involved hunting for a decent game is mind numbing.
-
thats a purdy 38. :D
~S~
-
For DF the GreaterGreen or the VirtualPilots servers are always good. But going in alone can be a problem. The best thing to do is either squad up and fly together or atleast fly with friends.
WT
Well next release should have 2 p51d, p51b, p51c with malcom hood and possibly an a36 or early mustang.
-
Hyper lobby wasn't my cup of tea. Had my fill of LW Iron by that time anyway and found you had two camps. Relaxed realism or full bore no icon crap. You don't go in alone and the guys I went in with were "full" realism junkies.
Very pretty, iffy connects when I played a year ago.
Just finished a free comped account at WB that was good for a couple of months I think.
Flew for 17 sorties over a few days and cleaned my hard drive. I spent 5 years there but it leaves me cold. There are no Ya Ya's there anymore. Ya Ya's left when WBIII came out.

I left WB shortly after WB3 came out. Does that make me a Ya Ya? What is a Ya Ya?
I left it because they seemed to be in terminal financial decline, and because of the 95MB download which I was expected to do by modem. (No ADSL back then) And it was full bore no icons - Dotbirds. And there was a myriad of installation hitches. I put myself in the place of a new player: Do I download this 95MB pig and pay (then) $24.95/mo, and endure months of installation problems with no support from the supplier? Or why don't I try this other game (AH, 24MB download (then) and $14.95/mo)? I tried Brand-A, and had it up and running in 20 minutes - better graphics, better sound effects, MUCH better connects.
The choice I made was one of life's easier decisions. :aok But I do miss the WB community as it was then.
-
like bett1e sad i left wor birds to shoutly after wb3 came out $24.95 is a lot of monny for a game that was lucky to have 7o peoply on line not worth the monny
-
I guess I must have been gazing into the old crystal ball back thern.
Left Brand W some 4 years back. While I miss some of the people I left behind I don't miss the sim, the people producing it, or their support staff.
I quickly made enough new friends in AH to replace those I left behind.
Brand W had been promising WBIII for a year plus when I left. It only took em what, another 2, 3 years to get it out.
Thanks but no thanks, I'll stick with HTC.
As for IL2FB if they had to make massive multiplayer work (Like AH)
It wouldn't look like that.
You can do things for 32 player limit
that you can't even consider for 700 online at one time in one place.
Apples & oranges folks.
-
I left brand W when some one decided to start it's decline.
HiTech
-
Well Dale, I can see you haven't changed. How's life in Grapevine? :D

thanks

I had fun in il2 for a few weeks offline then online.
then it got dull.
to me IL2FB online is like 30 AH h2h sessions going at one time.
sure you have the possibility of fighting 250 different individuals in il2fb but you only have the random chance of encountering 30 or so of them in one arena.
its got massive numbers but its not massive multiplayer game once your in the actual arena. its 5-30 people in a h2h session.

I wonder why they decided to model the P-38L with the seven seperate launchers on each wing. Especially since they were removed and replaced by an inverted pyramid mounting, which became the standard rocket mount for the P-38L.
ack-ack

Try the level 9 or 10 rooms - only a few peeps there but no icons environment is awesome and the flight model in level 10 is not that much diff from AH - look up these boys http://www.jg53.de/ and say I said Hi!
