MERYLL STREEP ?!?!? She's about 1/2 a notch better than Meg Ryan.   Laura Dern and Julianne Moore are the ones to beat in that group.

Tom Hanks is a good choice, but not sure if he's actually a better actor than the majority of those listed. Robert Duval  is probably the most accomplished. Could not help but notice Brando absent from your picks.

Kevin Costner?

You've got to be kidding. He plays the same role in every film, Kevin Costner.

Favorite living actors... Edward Norton, Brad Pitt, Tom Cusack.

Actresses... Minnie Driver, Renee Zelwegger, Mira Sorvino...

Doh..forgot all about Brad, Ed, and cusak...

Always been a big fan of costner (i prefer to remember Dances/No way out/Field of dreams than the others). Heaps of great actors play themselves in every role...Gene Hackman, Harrison Ford, Clint Eastwood...

No doubt about it, favorites ultimately are subjective.  I just like some performers more than others even when many of the others are also wonderfully talented.

So many names too.  I had to skim a video movie guide to help make sure I didn't forget any favs, and even after that had to go back and edit starting post to add Gene Hackman and Owen Wilson.

And then I had to back and add in Sandman's Edward Norton, Brad Pitt, and Tom Cusack -- dunno how I could have missed them first time around.

Brando?  I acknowledge his greatness but for some reason I don't look forward to his performances.  He is among others I like but can't really say they are favorites.
