Fester hosted his new Map, which is not complete yet. One base that was however was absolutely beautiful. The base was setup on a copy of Midway Island. It was several Islands forming an Atoll. The base is on two separate Islands, because of the size of these Islands a single base could not have two runways.
So on one Island, he had a runway going two directions (naturally hajo ya dummy) and on another Island close by...another runway going in opposite directions. Structures were added to the bases...buildings like we now have in our cities. Not to mention Palm trees etc.
The water color and texture is great! It's a light blue that gives you that PAC feel...and allows better depth perception when flying above it. Also will enable to track your bogey when on the deck. The texture is very well done.
Fester is trying to get 8 to 10 Carriers on this map...which would be superb for you blue plane pilots.
The feathering of the sand from the Islands is superb...one can tell depth of the water from above...and it's smooth and very easy on the eyes. The terrain and water will please most of us methinks. It is very easy on the eyes,,,both terrain and water and will make gameplay I'm sure more enjoyable.
Island hopping will be fun! Land base placement is very good. And the situations that arise as in the Big Isles Map (3 furballs, rest of Map not used) should be aleviated. There will be no reason to have 3 gangbangs only...a lot to do on this Map!
IMHO this Map really conveys the PAC feel. Moreso then our current PAC Maps...and this is not to take anything away from their creators. They don't have the time, with all the other work they have to do, to work an a Map for extended periods. And who but a regular player with insight into gameplay is best suited to build a Map?
Pizza great work...player designed...a players insight. Same with Fester Ma etc.
All in all OzKansas PAC rates a 10 in my book on graphics alone.
Well thought out textures in terrain and water! Base placement appears fun....fights should be very easy to come by. And hopefully without the 30 plane Jabo suicide (insert ponies, tiffies etc.) :D This Map hopefully will encourage more then 3 major fights...the number of CVs should ensure that.
Fester...well done me Lad! Can't wait till it comes into rotation.

To bad there won't be so many clouds in MA
I don't now why ...if it's for saving frame rate or any other reason but I think we don't have enought clouds in AH.

the suggested limit is 900 clouds for an arena. the players that build the maps make the clouds, every large map so far has been player made.
in festerma i tried to put couds strategically in high traffic areas and this cloud formation is borrowed from festerma so there is pretty good cloud coverage. will try to do the same on this map.
probably most clouds will be on the frontline bases and in afew key spots. but the tank town in the center needs to be cloud free for framerate safety due to the tank town and number of bases around that area.

Good to know ,thanks I thought it was a server setup.
So far your map are the most enjoyable for the player (I think) I'm happy to wait a new one :)

Fes. I was thinking about the move to AH2, Classic.
The ground clutter isnt going to be an option. Instead of a Tank Town, Hows about a TANK JUNGLE? With alot of those old broken down farm buildings and plenty of thick forestry cover with little peep holes through the trees? No way to be sure, but maybe this will solve some of the frame rate problems inherent with all those Town Buildings crammed together like in Trinity. You get the idea. This new map Looks WAY COOL. TY for your time.

Hey Fester, that is very nice!
I was wondering how you go about making a map and had asked in the TE forum if anyone had a sort of basic step by step explaination for using the TE.
Do you have any information that you would be willing/able to share?
for a what looks like a VERY nice map.

it starts out looking pretty crude.

you start out with a rough sketch of zones landmasses side placement etc etc using the blank 512 map provided in the TE folder as a guide then you start chisseling away at it.

I got that far, but couldn't really make the terrain follow my pattern as I selected terrain types....... seems like the fills would just go in directions I didn't want them too.
Maybe I just need to spend some more time with it. Thank you. I hope you keep up your work, as you have what looks like the best 2 maps going now.
