My best buddy lives even closer! Hell my mom is just two streets down!
Woman, daughter beaten to death
Newark pair slain while walking to work
By Melissa Evans, STAFF WRITER
FREMONT -- A mother and daughter were bludgeoned to death on a quiet residential street after apparently taking a shortcut on their walk to work about 3 a.m. Sunday, police said.
The women, both Newark residents, were found bloodied and lifeless at the corner of Contra Costa Avenue and Alameda Drive after a neighbor called police to report screaming and fighting near his Centerville home.
The witness said he saw six people when he looked out his living room window: Three in a parked Honda Accord, and a man on the street standing over the body of the mother, 39, and her daughter, 19.
The neighbor, who asked that his name not be used, then saw the car speed north on Contra Costa toward Thornton Avenue, and the man run the opposite direction toward Hansen Avenue.
The Alameda County Coroner's office refused to identify the women, but television reports said they were Maria Esperanza Hernandez and Maria del Carmen Hernandez.
Shaken neighbors exchanged conspiracy theories Sunday morning as dozens of police officers and drug-sniffing canines canvassed the area in search of witnesses and evidence.
Investigators recovered a "club" they believe was used in the bludgeoning, though Fremont police Detective Bill Veteran would not elaborate on what kind of weapon it was.
It does not appear the women knew their attackers, but investigators are not ruling out any suspects, Veteran said.
Police also are trying to piece together a possible motive. Veteran said there were no immediate signs of sexual assault, and it was unclear whether the women were robbed.
Autopsies are being performed by the Alameda County Coroner's office, but police officials said it appears both women died of blunt force trauma to the head.
The mother, who works at Fremont Care Center on Country Drive, called a relative earlier in the night asking for a ride to work before deciding to walk the roughly four miles to her job at the retirement center, Veteran said.
"Her daughter decided to walk with her, not wanting her mother to walk alone," Veteran said.
Police suspect the women took a shortcut through the residential area, turning right on Contra Costa instead of walking to the corner of Dusterberry Way.
Alameda Drive, which intersects with Contra Costa, dead ends just before Dusterberry Way near the Department of Motor Vehicles. Neighbors, however, say it is a popular shortcut used by pedestrians.
Veteran said the mother usually got a ride to work from her live-in boyfriend, but he was unable to drive her that night.
Police have interviewed the boyfriend, but the cause of the killings "does not appear to be domestic," Veteran said. "But we're not ruling anything out at this point."
Police taped off about four blocks surrounding the blood-stained asphalt marking the crime scene. Many nearby neighbors were awakened by officers early in the morning for questioning.
"It was so scary coming home to this," said Michelle Araica, who returned home about an hour after the killings took place. "This place is always quiet. All you ever see is people mowing their lawns."
Officers also interviewed members of Thornton Avenue Baptist Church, about a block north of the crime scene. Tom Breen, an usher, said officers had a long list of people to interview.
The neighbor who witnessed the crime described the man he saw on the street as a white man, about 6-feet tall wearing a jean jacket with beige sleeves.

Holy crap. WTF???
-
Sounds like they interrupted a drug deal.
-
Gofaster.
Maybe, but the area this took place in is NOT a bad neighborhood. We do not have drug dealers standing on corners anywhere near here. I have lived in the area all my life. Hell I am sure the house that the murder took place in from of is in the 450,000$ range(prolly more, since my buddy paid that in the same neighborhood, 3 years ago)
-
hhhmm, i really doubt it was because of drugs, as the women were just walking through, unless they knew it was going on and said something like, were gonna call the cops etc.
But generally if you think the drug dealer just wants to get his money and the doper wants his drugs, they dont wana bother killing someone over it all and have a huge mess and investigation on their hands to deal with.
although drugs are EVERYWHERE, doesnt matter the neighborhood or where you live, id be willing to bet their are at least one form of drug in every single city at least by far the majority of them, and if it was some big time drug dealer, a 450,000$ house is gonna be nothin for him.
My guess based on the story so far, 2 chicks walkin by, some drunk dudes or maybe under drug influence hangin out with their "Homies" ,when 2 women walk by, they are thinkin ehhhh mayn we could get sum yea right on!
So they make a half arsed attemp and throw out some scummy words or somethin and the ladys mouth off as would be expected and piss the dude off,he dont wana be seen gettin "disrespected" by some women in front of the "big dudes"
hes all messed up and not thinking as he normally would be and fills with rage and decides to club them, just thinking it would mess em up bad and make him look righteous with the "big dudes" so then you could think he either accidently or intentionally killed em.
Or, it could be one of them really in depth things, the boy friend hires some rough dudes to do his dirty work because of some mysterious reason.
Doubt we'll have any idea until some more evidence and storys are released

Well let me give you a real life "wake up call" I had a few years back..
I worked as a bartender at a local sports bar (Ground Round). Every sunday afternoon, this older gent, I'd guess mid 60s, would stop in. Real professional guy, very nice...could be anyone's grandfatherly type. He'd order a nice dinner, have a scotch & water, talk about what ever was news worthy, share a few chuckles, then head out.
Then one day, 2 detectives show up at the bar, asking about the guy...ask what he was like, etc. Then, next day in the paper, there it is. He was distraught this lady wanted to break up with him, shot her in the neck with a shotgun, feared he'd killed her and turned the gun on himself. She survived. He didn't.
You just never know.
-
I wonder if pepper spray would have helped them in this situation?

Lepaul.
I posted the story not go faster lol.
I understand there are going to be drugs everywhere, but this does not sound drug related to me. It is just weird.

Police search for killer
Investigation for motive continues as family grieves, wonders why
By Robert Airoldi and Melissa Evans, STAFF WRITERS
FREMONT -- Police continued to search Monday for a man who used a large tree branch to bludgeon to death a Newark mother and her daugh-ter early Sunday morning on a quiet residential street in Centerville.
Investigators are frustrated over their inability to determine a motive in the killing of Maria Esperanza Hernandez, 39, and Maria del Carmen Hernandez, 19, said Detective Bill Veteran. The women were found about 3 a.m. Sunday at the corner of Contra Costa Avenue and Alameda Drive, after a neighbor called police to report scream-ing and fighting near his home.
"Almost all homicides are investigated from the inside out," Veteran said. "We usually don't have to get too far out of that circle to find the motive and we're not getting there in this case. It is unusual."
A relative of the victims, meanwhile, said they were wal-king because the mother was an undocumented immigrant who could not obtain a driver's license
Shortly after Arnold Schwar-zenegger became governor, the state Legislature acted on one of his campaign promises by over turning a law that would have allowed such workers to obtain licenses.
"She has no license, she was not able to drive," said Fily Cuellar, Maria Esperanza Hernandez's nephew and the younger girl's cousin. "It's a very difficult political situation. She was not able to get a license, so then they had to walk. And this happened."
The mother, who worked at Fremont Care Center on Country Drive, usually got a ride to begin her early morning shift, Cuellar said, but after her ride fell through Sunday she decided to walk the almost four miles to work. Her daughter walked with her, not wanting her mother to walk alone.
About 2:30 a.m., Cuellar said, his wife received a call from the women, who already had begun walking but were asking for a ride. Cuellar's wife left to pick them up, he said, and as she exited at Thornton Avenue, she called to find out exactly where they were.
"There was screaming and she called her name, 'Carmen,' and the call cut off," Cuellar said. "She couldn't find them."
An anonymous neighbor who heard the women screaming said it was only about 10 seconds from the time he woke up to the time he discovered the bodies outside his home.
His son called police while they watched a man run from the scene and a car head in the opposite direction. The driver, he said, flicked off the car lights, perhaps to mask the license plate number.
Richard Wise, another neighbor who was visiting a friend Saturday evening, arrived home about 2:45 a.m. -- about the same time the killings took place.
He said he heard his neighbor and his son calling for help, and ran to the corner, where he saw the two women lying in a pool of blood.
Both women, he said, were face down on the pavement about a foot apart with their hands at their sides and palms up. The mother was wearing thin white gloves.
The daughter's midsection was exposed, he said. She was wearing a short jacket, and it looked as though her pants had been pulled down, but not off. A pair of black underwear, however, was lying next to her and looked as though it had been ripped off.
But Veteran said investigators don't believe either woman was sexually assaulted.
"That could be the result of a struggle," Veteran said of the torn clothes. "But we haven't discounted anything."
After discovering the bodies, Wise ran back to his house to get a flashlight.
"I came back and was looking for a sign of life, but there was none," he said. "They were clearly dead."
Veteran said a dozen officers spent Super Bowl Sunday knocking on doors and interviewing family, friends, co-workers and acquaintances in an effort to solve Fremont's second and third homicides of the year. Niles Elementary School custodian Debra Abbey was shot to death Jan. 9.
Police are looking for a 6-foot-tall white man who was wearing a blue denim jacket with tan sleeves. He last was seen running southeast on Contra Costa Avenue. They are also looking for a 1988 to 1992 light-colored, two-door Honda Accord occupied by three men. The car last was seen leaving the crime scene, traveling southwest on Alameda Drive.
The tree branch, three inches in diameter and about 30 inches long, was recovered at the scene and is at the Fremont Police Department's crime lab awaiting analysis, Veteran said.
Maria Esperanza Hernandez had worked at the care center for three years and had moved to Newark from Fremont about eight months ago. She had been in the United States since 1986. Her daughter, who wanted to go to school and learn English, moved here last year, Cuellar said.
The daughter had worked at Carl's Jr. at the corner of Thornton Avenue and Fremont Boulevard for the past six months. Holding back tears, a supervisor said Monday she was a good worker and well-liked. She was supposed to work an 11 a.m. shift the day of the killings, he said.

Maybe they needed a nice Taurus, and a few .40cal rounds.....
On another note...
Drug dealers (the "better" ones) usually find themselves in nice neighborhoods, just because clientel/money is much better. In what I considered a nice neighborhood $300k-$450k homes, there have been 3 drug bust, within the last 10 years.. 2 of them were houses growing weed, and another was a chemical lab making an assortment of drugs.... Its just that mentality.. "good neighborhood....no ones going to find me here.." etc..
-
BTW how long until Rip condemns "O Brother Where Art Thou" for promoting tree-branch beatings?

How long tell some lefty ******* comes here and calls one of us a racist for calling ilegal *******s what they are?
-
what was the point of calling her either one?
could you ( or would you) explain your reasoning? or just name calling racist or not.
-
LDV.
It was the paper that brought it up. I could care less personaly, it makes no difference in how she died or making it more or less tragic.
Though this is a big issue in California.
-
Another thought.
All of Cali's harsh gun laws did not do a damn thing to save this women.
-
They may do a Americas most wanted on it!

You really never know how long we have with them.
