Title: GV wish list
Post by: DREDIOCK on February 03, 2004, 01:16:41 PM
I'd like to see a greater variety of choices for GVs both perked and unperked.

Here are a few of my choices and the reasoning behind them

I've been pulling for a Sherman variant for awhile.  Either the T-34 or the Pershing would be a nice addition to the vehicle set, too.

The Long Tom and the cargo truck would be a waste of development resources, when the time could be spent developing a jeep with a .50 cal for base defense (when you absolutely need to drive to the city to shoot the invading troops).

t34/85 is a match for TIV, it shall not be perked.

If its a mach for the tiger then it should be perked as such no?

I just think it would be nice to see american or russian tanks going against one another as opposed to just german tanks.

Could also assign one perked tank per country too which would add to the flavor of GV battles.

wrong Sherman (IMO) to put in game play...yes it was the most common but it had a short 75mm gun...useless against even a PZIV. you need to use a varient with the 76mm or as an interesting option the "jumbo".

The most interesting options would be the stugIII's or PZIII(j) or Marder on germanside. M10 and/or M18 on american side...M36 as a tiger killer (maybe 10 perkies).

T34/76 on russian side (real match for PZIV) T34/85 or Kv-85 with Su-85 or Su-100 assault gun

Cromwell for brits with either firefly, Achillies and or churchhill as other options

Also a puma or other armoured car for germans would create some nice matchups.

The medium velocity 75mm gun on the M4A1,2,3 series of Shermans was effective against PzKwIV's.  The PzIV wasn't well armored so in general a good side or rear shot with an M4 would take care of it.  The PzIV's main gun (after the F2 of course) is still better than the main gun on the Sherman.  I think it is better than the 76mm main gun on the upgunned Shermans as well.  It would take the 90mm gun on the M36's or Pershings before the Americans had a better gun.

If we had a sherman I would want an M4A3E8(76)-the easy eight version or a British Firefly (with a 17lb AT gun) along with the basic 75mm gunned M4A3.  I would also like to see a Cromwell, a T-34 (76mm and an 85mm upgraded one), a KV85 (counter for the Tiger).

I would like to see a Bren Carrier, a Sdkfz 251 halftrack, maybe a Marder or an Elephant (perk the daylights out of that), more trucks for resupply (I would actually do that sometimes).

My non-perk gv wishlist:

Sherman M4A3 [W]
Panzer IVH (already in)
T-34/85mm

Reasoning: the Panzer IV and T-34/85 are fairly close in armor penetration (taking into account poor Soviet AP manufacture), whereas the T-34/76mm would have a slightly harder time achieving parity with the Panzer IV at longer ranges.  The T-34/85's biggest benefit over the Panzer IVH would be the increased damage it's larger HE round would cause.

The reason for having the 75mm Sherman M4A3 is for several reasons: 1) The 76mm Sherman did not reach the level of production that either the Panzer IV or the T-34/85 did before the end of the war; 2) the 76mm gun would be significantly better than the T-34/85mm, and slightly better than the PIVH at long ranges (1000m+); and 3) the Sherman has the best AA capability of the three (the T-34 being without ANY pintle gun)

My gv perk wishlist:
Pershing
Panther
IS-2

The Pershing is, unfortunately, one of the only tanks the US developed that could really be considered on par with the Tiger, the Sherman Jumbo lacking the requisite gun necessary to take out the Tiger in long-range fights.  IMHO, the Pershing should be perked higher than the Tiger for several reasons I will not go into here.  (IIRC none saw combat)

The Panther would be a great tank to include, and due to it's superior gun, speed, and sloped armor, it should probably be perked just a little bit more than the Tiger.

The IS-2 would be the Soviet equivelant of the German Tiger.  It probably shouldn't be perked more than the Tiger due to it's low ammo load (28 rounds), though it does have better armor penetration and HE damage.

I love flying in AH, but sometimes driving around in a tank is just as much fun :)

If you like the ground war, try ww2online. What ww2online and HTC should do is get each other's peanut butter in the other's chocolate.

If we could have the best of both worlds.

The Sherman and the T-34 would be a nice addition, or maybe even a Panther tank?
