Title: Which sound card?

I have recently upgraded to a Abit KV8-MAX 3 running a AMD64 3000.

While the performance of the machine is great I am experiencing some hard lockups and sound related lag.

It seems that the AC97 built in sound is not the best.

What would be a good choice for a new card ATM?

I am looking for a good quality mid priced card.

Yes the AC97 sound system is very, very CPU dependent.

The Creative Labs Audigy 2 or Audigy 2 ZS would be good bets.

the santa cruz card by turtle beach cost me $65 on their web site.  it's a also a great card.

Agree Hap, TBSC  as I said in an above thread.  I Love mine and NEVER lose VOX.
