...Of Gleed 244 Wing. Not complete. Clipped wing unavoidably seems to cause small graphics glitch on air-scoop when viewed from underneath:

Wow, how was that possible?
Alpha textures???
-
wow nice discovery!
i try this on old AH but skin become weird
-
Wow! That's really impressive! :)
BTW Fidd, found these RAF penants that you might find useful if you're doing a Sqn Ldr, Wg Cdr or Gp Capt marked aircraft - http://www.flags.net/UNKG7.htm
-
The roll rate's undermodelled; it's another facet of HTC's well known LW bias!
-
Excellent Fidd - back to the old days - but even better !!
-
Thanks, that'll save a few minutes work! Do you know if the pennant was carried both sides of the cockpit?

Yeah, the pennant is usually only applied to tbe port side of the aircraft.
-
Hmmm Osprey books show other aircraft carrying pennants on starboard side as well, but as they don't show both sides of the same aircraft I can't tell!

Hmm... the only explanation is that it's applied to the side you access the aircraft. BTW, is this a Sqn Ldr pennant that Osprey show being on the starboard side? I think the Sqn Ldr pennant can be applied either side but the port is the norm.
I know that Typhoon's only have it on the port side, like the Typhoon in AH with Wg Cdr pennant. I think Spitfires and Hurricanes are on the port side too. (AH Spit14 has Wg Cdr pennant on port side too).
Here's the BBMF Spitfire displaying the Wg Cdr pennant on the port side:
and not visible on starboard side
(http://www.f4aviation.co.uk/airshow03/leuchars/16bbmfspit.jpg)
I'll dig through my books and see if there is a clearer definition of which side it's normally applied.
-
No I was talking about pictures all of Vb's within the Osprey book, as access is only possible from the port side, some Spits at leats carried pennants on the non-access side. What I can't (yet) discover is whether or not they carried them on both on the same aircraft.

Explain this alpha texture thing....lol and how you apllies it to the spit for clipped wings.
thanks,
Waffle
BTW - am currently working on a spit also...lol
will post some pics soon.

use an editor to look at bitmaps of instruments. look for ones that end .... _a.bmp. these are alphas. how they work should be self-evident.
-
What does the wing look like edge on... or Tip on?
Does it appear hollow?
-
It has no discernible thickness, ie you either see the top or bottom. It's certainable useable graphically, except for that annoying artifact on the cooler.

It looks like you can see trough a piece of that caburator?

t looks like you can see trough a piece of that caburator?

It's the cover of a cooler, not the carburator.

Oh, didn't know that. It surely has the same colour as the sky tho...
-
Indeed, because of the way HTC mapped the wingtips, it is possible to clip the V's wings by adding an alpha bitmap, but not without causing that small glitch on the cooler. If you don't like it, all you need to do is delete SPIT5SD_a.bmp from the directory. With luck, HTC may decide to remap that area and then we turn out clipped-wing spits until they actually model one!

fidd could you do a pacific australian spit V? that would rock
no ones ever really done much with the british in the pacific and the colors and paintschemes they used look great
-
Cit - got one on the way -
RAAF 457th squadron "grey nurse"

Yep, expect a Mk V of Clice Caldwell presently. I'm going to take a break for a few days from skinning, I've just uploaded 2 spits plus the custom cockpit set, so frankly I've had enough for a bit! When I get back to it I'll make that my next one.

Fidd,
My uncle flew with W/C Gleed in WW2. Of all the Winco's he flew with, he said Gleed was the best combat pilot he ever had a chance to wing with. Hope this skin makes it into MA.
