Title: comparing frame rate in 1.04 x 1.05: results
Post by: fradim on December 28, 2000, 07:17:00 AM
Using a p3@600 128 Mb RAM and SR9Xtreme (16 Mb SGRAM), I've obtained these results:

1.04p5
------
resolution - sfterr - ahcmed - ndisles
640x480    -     42   -   44   -   n/a
800x600    -     26   -   27   -   n/a
1024x768   -     16   -   16   -   n/a

1.05p2
------
resolution -  sfterr  ahcmed  ndisles
640x480    -     42   -   36   -   44
800x600    -     26   -   28   -   27
1024x768   -     16   -   16   -   16

Notes:

1. I've used frame rate benchmark protocol as published at:  www.grandeavenida.com/fps/ah_protocol_pc.cfm?Game=2 (http://www.grandeavenida.com/fps/ah_protocol_pc.cfm?Game=2)

2. notice that using sfterr terrain (default at 1.04 version) we've obtained same results. Differences in frame rate using ahcmed probably are due to the fact that in 1.04 I haven't used hires terrain;

3. This data is just a way of comparing oranges with oranges ;-) Anyway, it cannot help in evaluating some situations that are specific to the main arena, as the impact in frame rate of a dogfight over fleet.

Finally, I hope it helps you understand the importance of supporting aces high benchmark site ;-) BTW, if you haven't seen my post yesterday, please have a look: http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/Forum1/HTML/007058.html (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/Forum1/HTML/007058.html)

Yes, at this point im sickened just to go near a fleet, frame rate drops to hell and thats the end of the game. Nearly all dogfights now take place over fleets, where dweebs can go and hug momma's ack and massive AAA fire, as they know they will get a "manouver kill". *sigh*

IMHO, fleets should have no AAA ships, just the cruiser and the carrier...if players want to have AAA to defend it, they can get those PT boats. Anything else is just overkill & framerate hogging.

We might consider changing the benchmark to something similar to the WB batmark test.  After all, my framerate goes to slideshow on the CV.

Fradim, try using the <Code> command to square up that table:

1.04p5
------
resolution - sfterr - ahcmed - ndisles
640x480    -   42   -   44   -   n/a
800x600    -   26   -   27   -   n/a
1024x768   -   16   -   16   -   n/a

1.05p2
------
resolution - sfterr - ahcmed - ndisles
640x480    -   42   -   36   -    44
800x600    -   26   -   28   -    27
1024x768   -   16   -   16   -    16

PS.. another little trick I like to use is to delete the "this message edited by" line at the bottom.  That way I don't look like such a dweeb after multiple edits of the same fricking post (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

I have tried but, believe me, when I was posting that message this help on the left (ubbcode.html) was not working.

I have thought about using CV but frame rate isn't affect at all. Quite the contrary, it was even better. After all, we cannot reproduce the same adverse circumstances of main arena, specially when we face those scarey acks comming from enemy fleet ;-) Bit I hope this is something that will be fixed soon. Anyway, I am open to new ideas :-)
