Weight loss is never going to be easy.

And Freud was crazy and Fleming had infections and Einstein was actually wrong about some stuff..... BFD.

Alright mr. ostrich.

The medical examiner’s report was given to the Journal by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a group that advocates vegetarianism. The medical examiner’s office told the Journal that the report had been sent to the group in error.
This group is affiliated with PETA. So where is YOUR head?
-
Yeah. and hitler thought the sky was blue too.
-
Crazy, this group that advocates a Vegitarian lifestyle illegally obtains the health records of the guy who started the diet that says it's OK to eat meat. I can hardly believe they found this startling "evidence".
-
I don't know if it's true or not.
I've been on the diet for 3 weeks, losing about 5 pounds per week and have more energy than I did at 20 yrs old.
I would however kill for an apple and a slice of pizza

doesn't it make your breath smell like crap because of ketosis? Eh...doesn't sound good to me. If I were overweight I'd be on the work more, eat less diet.

Misty tales and poems lost
All the bliss and beauty will be gone
Will my weary soul find release for a while
At the moment of death I will smile
It's the triumph of shame and disease
In the end Iliad

ya, but if you brush your teeth a few times a day it's not a problem. so no big issue.
also I've done the workmore eat less thing, the problem is you drop about 10-15% of the weight and then you're body thinks you're starving and slows you down to save fuel. you get hungry as hell with no energy.
and even if you push through that eventually to loose the weight you will have to start burning off fat for fuel, which gives you the same bad breath as with atkins.
the big difference is that I've noticed is that I don't get as tired, or as hungry, and that I'm losing a lot more size in proportion to the weight I've lost. which would lead me to believe I'm losing more fat and less muscle.
and you don't have to go hungry. you can snack when you're hungry, eat decent size meals and still the weight just slowly slips off.
I don't plan on staying on this thing forever though. I just need to get rid of the extra weight and keep it down until I can start exercising again.
for now any time I up my heart rate it triggers another headache that drops me for the day.

The guys avowed life style is being adopted by millions of people. It advocates a diet that many experts think will harm you over the long term. He dies, obese(260 at 6ft..porky) and his family will not allow a real autopsy to show the effect those years of his diet had on his internal organs. Why. Because they make millions off his diet. So what if its hurting people. This group of docters gets ahold of what little evidence thier is about what he had done to himself and get it out for the public to see.
thanks I say. I love meat, but Ill have my spuds in moderation too please.
-
Fine, eat yer spuds and STFU. Why bother with something that does not impact, involve or interest you?
-
Im doing the Atkins diet too. I've lost 21 pounds in 3 1/2 weeks. :)
I feel great, tons of energy and I'm pushing the plate away sooner as well.
Oh and the bad breath from ketosis goes away after about a week or two. It just does that while your body is adjusting it's metabolism.
-
From what I hear he didn't gain the extra weight till he fell and was laid up in the hospital.
What does that have to do with his diet?
-
Life is the leading cause of death.
The guy fell and cracked his skull. Cut him some slack. Anything associated with PETA needs to be taken with a serious dose of suspicion.
Eat a variety of delicious food, in moderation, and walk for half an hour every day. And oh yeah...DONT SMOKE
-
But you don't think its an all time low from his adversaries to publish his personal medical record out to the public?
-
He dies, obese(260 at 6ft..porky)
True, but he was 72 for christs sake Pongo. And died from cracking his head from a slip on ice.
-
Well, the question of how much he weighed when he entered the hospital is kinda important.
Assailing the report because the group that published this is "extreme" doesn't work. LIkewise, assailing a diet because its proponent was obese doesn't work.
What does work is to show that the "extreme" group distorted the facts or that the diet proponent was on the diet, and that was the cause of heart disease and obesity.
-
The only parties helped by hiding his obesity and heart problems is atkins.com.
If Ronald Macdonald died with 80 pounds of undigested "all beef patties" in his gut would we want to know?
if one of these vegan nuts died cause his soft skull colapsed from lack of protien would we want to know?
What dr Atkins had done to himself and his heart is important to know. Shame of his clan for not allowing a full autopsy and clearing up the issue.
As it is we have a severly overweight man that had severe heart problems, his death of couse was because he hit his head.
-
what I heard originally was that the type of heart disease he had is caused by infection, not life-style. still haven't found that source again though.
-
Stuart Trager, chairman of the Atkins Physicians Council in New York, told the Journal that Atkins’ heart disease stemmed from cardiomyopathy, a condition thought to result from a viral infection.
Veronica Atkins issued a statement acknowledging that her husband had been diagnosed with a heart condition known as cardiomyopathy about three years before he died, and that he had had a cardiac arrest in April 2002.
It was in that article and this one (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040210/ap_on_he_me/atkins_medical_report_3) too, Apathy.
Pongo, the Atkins lifestyle has been around since the 70s, and plenty of people have and do follow it. I'm sure there are plenty of examples to be found. Why are you going all conspiracy theory on this one just because he started the thing? The veggies with obvious motives came out and said he died because of his diet. His family who has obvious motives gave a reasonable explanation of the circumstances of his health. The ME, said nothing, as they should. So you've simply got two opposing sides, both with a motive - and one of those sides stooping to illegally obtain someone's personal medial history and then relaying "facts" that can't be confirmed.

How much did he weigh before the diet?

"The inventor and first practioner of this diet died obese with estraordinarliy severe heart disease. But we dont think it had anyting to do with his once contraversial diet. Enjoy your steak breakfast!"

Pass the brown rice please.

The below report from the New York City medical examiner--which was inadvertently provided to a Nebraska doctor who is vehemently anti-Atkins--shows that the 72-year-old physician had suffered from a heart attack, congestive heart failure, and hypertension.
