The movie that stars Kirk Douglas and Martin Sheen, where the USS Nimitz goes back in time to Pearl Harbor...I can't remember the name!

Yeah It was great when the F-14s buzzed the zeros.
The looks on the Japanese pilots was priceless.

IF they didnt have missles one would think shooting down a zero with an f14 would not be EASY

reminds me of the simpsons episode were jets are chasing sideshow bob in a write flyer replica:rofl

One of my favorite scenes is the Jap POW whom they bring on board, and then explain to him exactly what the Japanese are planning for Pearl Harbor, including the ship names, the use of Tora Tora Tora, etc.  Look on his face is priceless!

Plus the rationalization over whether they should prevent Pearl Harbor was great:  We have a duty to protect America, in any time period.

I find it hard to believe that a standard issue sidewinder would home on a piston engine aircraft. Still, it's a good movie.

Final Countdown is about like the recent blockbuster "Pearl Harbot", only it's more historically accurate.

Those guys could have made a killing in the stock market and betting on sports games.  They should have docked somewhere near Central America, rode out the war on vacation (so they wouldn't change history), and then each one would become a millionaire.

As a matter of fact, I have, and it was not a pleasant experience.
OTOH, sidewinder sensitivities must be set for the jet range, which is several thousand degrees hotter.

If you set the homing device to a lower temperature, I'm sure it would have a hard time acquiring the right target (a 200 ºC source at 1 Km must not be very distinguishable from the solar heat, but I'm just guessing).

Anyway, "it's just a movie, for god's sake! (tm)" :D

Not several thousand, just a few hundred.

PW FT - 8, which is the power generation version of the aero turbine on the wing of a 737, has an ideal EGT of 560 C (1050 F)

As I remember EGT on Cessna’s in the 200 - 250 C  (400 - 500F) range, although it been awhile since I've been in a plane with that instrument.

The best thing about the Final Countdown was Katherine Ross.
