No, Rude, not a whine :)
I'm absolutely lost with the new icons. Even with the Names/Labels on, and zoomed in deeply, I'm still not able to find bases.
Again, this is just speaking for myself. I thought the old icons worked great.
The Map Room/Yellow dot is very confusing as well, since our squad uses the orange dot. If the radar bar overlaps the maproom, instant orange dot. Opps.
Any chance we can have the old Map icons back?

one thing I noticed about the new icon labels is you can press the brake key (B I think) to toggle on/off while you have the map up..I like the alt info best.
-
Maybe the map room dots could toggle on/off with one of the buttons, or at least change the dots to "sky blue". Yellow is very visible and useful for icons, "sky blue" is useless for icons, but could still be seen on the green map background.
-
Agree, the map is rather cluttered if airfield names are displayed and you have to zoom in to make any sense of the map.
The additional information now supplied is fantastic, but please tweak the icons and it'll be better :)

Smaller font size for the labels would help a lot also

I agree, I would like standard while letters for all the fields stating number/alt that are easy to read and color of which cannot be changed.

 What are you TETCHED!?!?!?!
I cant but barely make out the itsey bitsey lettering as it is. I play at 1600x1200 and the fonts are so small as to be completely unreadable without noseprints on my monitor.
I think we need a scalable/selectable font

I agree with my old squaddie regarding the alt. info. This kind of info should be expanded upon and I would be so bold as to ask for a topographical map someday and while I'm at it a distance measuring tool so we can calc out how far away a target is.

Hi Guy's :p
Just a Thought, What if the Bro's at AH could create a Square or a circle zoom via the mouse.
Put the mouse pointer on the map, click on it and it zooms or circles a 9 square grid area that U are working on the map. That area that U just clicked on becomes full size on the clipboard. There would have to be a toggle tab on the clipboard to return to the arena map.
Just a Thought. ...Te...

My $0.02 to make the map more readable:
Make the base label text WHITE so we can see them through the sector DAR bars and against the map background.
Make the text change size with the zoom function. (When you are zoomed out, the current one-size-fits-all labeling makes it impossible to read.)
Thanks.

At first I didn't care too much for it. Now, after using INSERT and DELETE to zoom in and back...and placing the info I want on the map...I really like it.
-
Dunno, I really like all the info available and have adapted to the new style. Keep it. Sorry BD5.

Brother Oz & Guy's :p
I just went and tried the "INSERT & DELETE" feture. AWESOME..
THAT'S THE TICKET!! ...Te...

hate to agree with lepaul but he's right. I really don't need to know where the KOA campgrounds are on the map.

Oh my
Laz is agreeing with me, wow.
Mark your calendars, it doesn't happen often.
Come to think of it, we are due for another odd event soon, a solar eclipse...Friday. :D

Personally I like the new map especially with the ability to do the shift/left click and scroll the map. I also like the fact that there are symbols showing the strat targets which I used to have to go fly the map offline and map for myself along with landing at each field so I would have the alt. logged for every base on the map. So.... lets keep the map
my penny's worth

Can someone please explain how to get the left shift + mouse button scroll thingy to work?
Hopefully HTC will add scrollbars or something. I can see how a newbie would be really turned off logging in for the first time and seeing this:

I like the new map. I like being able to turn the names and altitudes off or on. It is busy when viewing the whole map with alt and name tags on but I don’t use it that way. I also like being able to see where all the facilities are.
Most of the time I have the map zoomed in only showing 4 grids. I may zoom out to check what base was just captured or where the front is moving but for the most part I’m zoomed in.
Mickey, if you hold the shift key down, then hold the mouse button down you can move the maps center point. This is similar to the scroll bars, just without the scroll bars ;). I’m not sure how to explain it other than this. Cya up!

Put me in Zips camp.

I would just like for the map to stay in place after I shift-left-click-move the map. After I hit Esc and bring it back up it defaults to center instead of where I manualy moved it to, hey, I wanted it right here :D

how about fewer fields, who needs so many fields anyways? Then that will clear up some room so that the base #'s can be actually read. Or even make the filed #'s single digit or letters, who the heck needs base 1 then 13 then 52 then ... whatever.
-
A simple solution (which I posted elsewhere) would be to add the ability to toggle the field info icons. Everything else can be toggled, why not those too? Once I see the attributes of my target, I have no need for all the clutter and would like to turn the info icons off, like I can with everything else. Just a thought. :)
-
How about an option to toggle the map or the entire knee board to full screen.

Well... I would say that it falls more into the category of.... "even a blind hog roots up a truffle once in a while." rather than some sort of cosmic event.

I didn't know the hogs used their eyes to find truffles... interesting... ;)
anyways, I have no prob using the new map. :)
-
What the next go around of the map will have.
White text lables for fields, with rook/bish/knight only in red/green.
Will see if I can make the font clearer.
2. ability to turn on or off strat icons field icons will stay.
3. change color of the map rooms.

I find the new map system a very significant improvement over what went before.
Field names are precise and not blurred by the zoom factor.
We can have as much or as little detail as we choose.
We know where the map rooms are (which is pretty good intelligence)(change your squad colour)
and the map definition is now superb as well.
