Title: suggestion to all those who have accidentally bailed out
Post by: Fester' on August 19, 2001, 05:15:00 AM
remap the bail command keys from enter to....

shift enter

then you have to hold down shift key and press enter 3 times.

still as easy to bail but you wont bail accidentally anymore.

  :)

this has been fester's training tip for the day    :p

Mine is set to the P key.

I rarely use it though.  I prefer to ride it down into the ground.  Hopefully my enemy will die before I hit the ground, but if you bail you never know.

I've gotten a few kills that way.

Hans.

Good idea.  I just completely un-mapped mine, but I need to re-map it--just in case I need to bail out during a TOD.  (then again, don't think it makes a difference during a TOD either.  need to check)

odd.  I've never acidentally bailed out.  how is that done exactly?  my hand is never near the enter key much less near it 3 times.

Well, the way *I* did it...

I was flying around, looking for a fight, and still adjusting my views at the same time, when I came across a low P-38.

Well, there's this irritating little glitch with the view system (and my joystick, or something) that will cause it to act as if one of the arrow keys is stuck, if I let up on the view hat before I let up on the arrow key.

So this happened right before I engaged the P-38, and everytime I hit the view hat my head position would shift to the bottom left.  Quite disorienting, even while not in a fight, so I started to tapping on the keyboard to get it to stop (now I know that if I hit the ESC key, it'll fix it).  It wouldn't stop, so I then started pounding on the keyboard.  It wasn't long before I pounded the enter key three times, and I fell out of my perfectly good airplane, past the P-38, and into the ground.

I immedietly un-mapped the bail key.

I changed long time ago bailout key to F12 as well, as it was first good key which didn't seem to be assigned yet.
Although, that may cause some problems with remembering it  ;)

So that's how I got you that one day!!   ;)

I've never accidentally bailed, but I should remap it just in case.  Only for scenarios though, I never bail in the MA or CA.  More fun to just ride it on down and let the guy who shot me see the plane hit the ground.  That and since I fly Knights, popping a chute near Bishops isn't a good idea.  Never know when a FDB is lurking...   :D
