1. If we have ports, why do we not have sea planes? Sea planes would add a lot to the game in my opion and would be great for maritime patrol too.
2. How can AH not have the He-111? Historically it's a very important plane and was used extensively through the war.
I know that we are are all anxiously awaiting the arrival of AH2(if it is ever released), but it has been over a year since the update.
Why can't they throw us a bone and add something to keep the game interesting?
-
1) What would sea planes add to AH, except a cool plane for everyone to fly once?
2) Many planes fall into this category.
-
1. Probably because very few people would be interested in unarmed recon patrols, and there were almost no significant combat seaplanes except the Japanese H8K 'Emily'.
2. I think this is largely due to the fact that the He-111 can't do anything that you can't do with a Ju-88, so it wouldn't be filling gaps in its combat role. I don't think anyone really knows what HTC's priorities are in adding aircraft, but it's likely that one such as the He-111 is pretty low on the list of planes to add. It might be a good addition for ToD, but I think that Russia and Italy are more in need of bombers than the German planeset.

ecliptik,
I beg to to differ... 1. PBY Catalina had a 4000lb bomb load 2. PB2Y Coronado had a 12,000lb payload 3. Boeing B-314 long range transport. 3. Cant Z.506 had 2600lb payload. 4. He 115 2,756lb payload. 5. Kawanishi H8K 4,409lb payload. ...I could go on.
ra, sea planes would add a lot to AH. especially if ah2 is going to subs. If you could fly a bomber or transport with troops out of a port, it would change the game a lot.

I thought i put some planes on the lists of military country:
United State Navy:
Consolidated PB2Y-3 "Coronado"
Consolidated PBY-5A "Catalina"
Curtiss SC-1 "Seahawk"
Grumman J2F "Duck"
Martain PBM-3 "Mariner"
Vought OS2U-1 "Kingfisher"
Royal Navy:
Fairey Seafire
Short Sunderland Mk1
Supermarine Sea Otter Mk 1
Supermarine Walrus Mk 1
Japanese Navy:
Aichi E13A1
Aichi E16A1 "Zuiun"
Kawanishi N1K1 "Kyofu"
Kawanishi H6K4
Kawanishi H8K2
Mitsubishi F1 M2
Nakajima A6M-2-N
German Navy:
Arado Ar 196A-1
Arado Ar 231
Blohm Und Voss Bv. 138C-1
Blohm Und Voss Bv. 222A
Dornier Do 18D-1
Dornier Do 24
Junkders Ju 52/3m g5e
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Most of them are Transport and I heard that USN has work on C-47 to make for sea transport and it was successfully for it.

Roman, from what country is that flag? (it waves the same as mine :))
-
Frank,
The Flag is the First Jack of the US Navy. It's the Flag the flys off of the Bow. Normally it's a blue field filled with stars. The Secretary of the Navy has ordered the First Jack to be flown during the gloval war on terrorism. Normally it's an honor held in reserve for the oldest ship in the fleet. It has a rattlesnake on it and the words "Don't tread on me".
-
Ah, well it waves nicely anyway :)
-
He 111, I agre with what has been said above regarding the fact the we have the JU 88 and real the He 111 is a much less capable plane compared to and both fill the same time slot for prety much all of the war, I would rather see He 177 added instead of He 111 so we hade a late war german buff and an early war one instead of two early war machines, at least in the short term.
Personaly I would love to see sea planes added, other than the Coranado and the Emily I realy dont see them being used in the main much, even the Rex would be fairly easy meat their. Howeaver in the CT and in the Sea we could have a lot of fun with them.

If there were gameplay rewards for the Maritime Patrol mission, I could see the utility of Seaplanes. Say, for example, if you could overfly an enemy fleet, and have the location reported to everyone's clipboard map... That might have some utility in the MA, especially in a map like Fester's new pacific. I actually spent a good deal of time putting together an idea along these lines, and then scrapped it figuring that it wouldn't be worth the effort to implement.
I think it would be fun, but I'll do pretty much anything in game, and enjoy it. I don't know how many other people would want to do that for more than two missions.
I remember wishing that I had a Hurri2d in AW, I thought that would be awesome for taking out GVs. Now I have one in AH, and I never fly it. Sometimes its not the having its the wanting.

In response to Question 1, I asked Pyro or HTC about Sea port planes ages ago and the intention was to enable a float plane at one of the ports (one of those skid launch type ones). I think this was way back with it intending to be included into AH 1.05 but obviously the priority dropped to allow more important features. Hopefully we'll see some sort of sea plane in the future! :)

I like Sikboy's take on the sea planes too. AH could give out point (perk or otherwise) for locating fleets. Once they are located they could show up on the map and be displayed for the team that found it. Replicant I think that you are talking about the Kingfisher. I would like to see some planes that would of strategic use. It would be great to be able to fly bombs, mines, torpedoes, troops and supplies from the ports. Right now they only serve to spawn task groups.
Brady/Ra, I wasn't trying to say the He-111 was terrific bomber or that it would give some kind of tactical advantage we don't have now, but it just seems odd not to have. How lame is the Stuka? That seemed to makes it's way into the plane set. Not even the good Stuka with the 37mm anti tank guns to mount under the wings. I agree that Italy and Russia both have great bombers that are not in the plane set. I would like to see the Piaggio P.108, Cant Z.1007, and the Russian Pe-2. :aok

WHAT? There is nothing more fun then dropping an 1800kg bomb on some strategic target, plus the bomb release sound alone is worth the trip :D
-
AdmRose,
What I meant by lame is that flying one in the MA is pretty much suicide. If you're spotted with that 1,800 kg your as good as shot down, unless you have a flock of fighter cover. I don't think that anyone would want to take a Stuka and bomb an enemy airfield. It was only effective in WWII after total air superiority was achieved and I think that you can say the same for AH. Germany lost so many in the battle of Birtain that they pulled all out of western Europe and then the same thing happened on the eastern front. The only reason the kept using it was because the didn't have a replacement.

what about a N1K1 Kyofu ?
I already hear sound of the not so happy whinner ;)
-
Yup,
I missed the N1K. Originally I was just giving a quick list to show that there were sea planes used for attacking as well as patrol. Didn't mean to leave anything out.
