wilbus , i skin in this way..
1st and most important. get the panel lines down onto a new layer, takes a bit of tim but if you use the draw button and do all vertical lines then all horizontal lines.. then do the fiddlely lines you can do it quite quickly..
2nd do the rivits... you can use the same line tech , but set it to do a dotted line.. and so on..
3rd.. now the fun part painting.. think of how things are in real life..start off new and get old.. so start with your camo paint and work up.. so things getting scratched( around the places where people work are most scratched) and dirty .
4th things move so an oil spill and gun smoke move in certain directions so paint on oil and smoke with brush and use gausian blur and wind effect in paint program( you may have to rotate you pic to get right effect)

but most of all use layers for everything(and name them before you use them).. the 190 has over 50 layers

what would be good is being able to post the skins with all layers available so people can see how they are put together..

also have a goos source of pics to work from.

good luck

If someone would like to create a tutorial with an example skin and step by step manual, it would be a pleasure for me to put it on http://www.ah-skins.com.

Best would be if freeware such as GIMP would be used with screenshots etc.  and no worries, I would just need the text and screen shots. You don't need any html knowledge. :)

What do you think? Anyone?

What kind kinf of categories you would like to see? Templates, decals, stencils, ...? What else?

Thanks alot Selector, started on a skin before I got your reply and did draw the new lines in a new layer, makes me feel good it's the same thing you put on 1:st place.

What Program do you use? I'm using Paint Shop Pro, would this Gimp program I've heard about be better?

Wilbus if you want to learn skinning the tool is not really important provided your graphical program manage layers.

Paint shop pro should be more than enought for starting no need to learn another program.

My suggestion would be for you to download one of Snorri's template (may I suggest a 190 ? ;))  here (http://www.flugzeugwerk.net/xflugz.htm)

Even if the mapping is different you will be able to see how he made the layers.

Unfortunatly the only skinning tutorials I know are in French :(

First Off, Very Nice Skin.

I Seem to be having problems with the wing aspect of it though, at first it wouldnt work at all i had to rename the 190a51.bmp file to just plain 190a5 for the main body panels to accept.

after many tries with renaming the wing bmp I cannot get it to take any ideas?

Did you submit this skin to HTC by any chance, I would love to see it as one of the approved ones :D

Skuzzy has posted on another thread that only 2 skins so far have been submitted, maybe a vote of approval here would help SELECTOR decide to submit this very beautiful one.

Thanks,

Quick Question that was brought up by a squaddie.

Why is it Showing the JG54 Grunherz heart under the cockpit but yet the panther of JG11 on the nose art? Is this accurate to History?

Jim thats not JG11 nose art,

The Greenheart shows what Geschwader. The nose Art shows 2nd Gruppe. Some Staffels had their own art as well early in the war. So pilots had individaul personal art.

FYI

The greenheart = Grünherz Geschwader, the nose art is for II./JG 54 (2nd Gruppe). The horizontal bar behind the cross also means its a 2nd gruppe aircraft. The fact that it and the number 2 are painted  yellow (gelbe) means it was in the 3rd staffel (3./JG 54).

So Geshwader = JG54
Gruppe = 2
Staffel = 3
Plane = 2

Just write it as 3./JG 54.

Another example of Art

The image (4./JG 53) above starting from left to right:

Staffel Emblem,
the Gruppen Emblem,
Geschwader Emblem
