Not to horn in on Brady's turff, but with this post I am starting a new series I like to call WW2 TRIVIA to maybe help raise the intrest in our favorite hobby and time period and maybe for everyone to learn a little something they didn't know before. I will post a new question every few days. Good luck to everyone.

WW2 TRIVIA #1
Which piston engined aircraft had the largest propeller of WW2?
Extra points if you can tell me the company that made the Propeller.

Was it the F4U? About 13 feet if I remember right.

Since Hamilton-Standard is the only propeller maker I know - Hamilton Standard!

Well the Jug and the F4U w/ those paddled blades had a mighty big prop. Just for the fun of it though, I'll say it was the B29.

Actually, F4U was carry largest Propeller and was carry the Hamilton-Standard what Tarmac said.

well it depends... if you want lenght I would say b-29. If you wanted total area covered I would say Fw 190D-9

B-29 SUPERFORTRESS it is.
The B-29 used a Hamilton-Standard 16 ft. 5 inch (dia.) 4 Blade variable pitch prop on each of it's 4 engines. The largest on any prop powered a/c of WW2.

Ehhhh......I always thought that Goodyear F2G-1 "Super Corsair" got biggest prop blade and bigger engine of 3000HP. I gotta say that B-36 "Peacekeeper" got the big prop and big engine as F2G got.

B-29 Superfortress is the correct answer.
The Vought Corsairs only had a prop of 13 feet (dia.)(P-47 used the same prop I believe) while the B-29 was 16 ft, 5 in. (dia.).
The F2G Corsair had the biggest Engine with 3,000hp as the B-29 only had 4x 2,200 hp models. No F2G saw no combat but spent most of their time as racing planes.
The F5U Flapjack had some good ones but I was refering to combat planes not test planes - my bad - I will be more specific next time.
The Kolbrai is an autogyro not an aircraft. You are thinking of rotors like a helicopter. Totally different varment. :D Good thinking though. :aok
B-36 was WAY post-war, remember we are talking WW2 in all these questions. The first XB-36 did not fly till Aug. 8, 1946.

Yes, That's true about F2G did not get see the combat, but did enter the service during before WWII ended. I gotta say that Goodyear F2G Super Corsair is too rare plane that one still secret and have no idea whatever happened to it.

I think you got it.
The F2G had a 14' diameter prop.
The F4U started with a 13'4" prop that was changed in balde design to reduce prop tip speeds in 1944 to a 13'1" blade 6501-A.
The larger the prop and higher the rpm the less efficient that prop would be over say 20,000FT. The F4U had to reduce to normal power at that alt in climbs for max climb rate without overheating. In level flight it was not as important.
