Title: A-Rod to the Yankees
Post by: Ripsnort on February 16, 2004, 08:00:48 AM
Looks like another potential "paid-for-in-advance" championship team

Heres the deal in a Readers Digest version of current baseball:

Commissioner says we need a cap to make baseball competitive.

Players vote no to the proposal via the union, threaten to strike.

Commissioner installs a luxury tax that perpetuates only the ultra-rich team owners to paricipate in an "arms race" of sorts.

Players continue to get more and more money, baseball ticket prices continue to rise in price, only a handful of rich, elite teams make it to the ACLS and NCLS,and WS.

That game is going downhill fast without a salary cap.

Anyone see that Onion article a few months ago about George buying EVERY free agent. Looks like it's not so farcical anymore.

{Rip sits quietly with "HTC Yankee" fishing pole in hand, waiting...waiting... ;) )

With salary and luxury tax, we're talking about a payroll that could be $200 million+. Baseball sucks, Yankees suck

I say about 5 more years before the avg. price for a family of 4 to attend a Major league BB game surpasses $400.

Minor league ball is much more fun to watch anyway.

"Prime" seats:      $13.50
"Choice" seats:      $9.50

Now with all the money that the Rangers have saved maybe Hicks will pull his head out of his butt and get Pudge back on the team that he belongs.

I miss the days when you knew your team, and changes were the exception. Even in the 80's the Dodgers had a stable infield for many years. Now-a-days I couldn't tell you one starter. sad

People complain about the cap and free agency in the NFL. I think they are nuts. What a stupid leage MLB is.

Baseball Is silly anyway LOL.
How do they earn all those millions?
Standing out in a field with a mouth full of chewing tobbaco and scratching there nutts.

I just don't see the attraction to that game.
I mean hell bowling has more action.

like all sports, if you have no connection with the game it is of course going to seem boring. You will appreciate baseball once the generation of soccer playing tards gets old enough to demand MLS be put on TV.

Keep on dreamin'.  The Rangers are still paying 67 million of Rodriguez's contract over the next 7 years....couple that with paying a pitcher who cant pitch 14 million a year for the next 3 or 4 years and they aint saving ****.  Thats over 20 million being paid to players who arent even playing here on a team whose owner wants to trim payroll back to around 60 million??  In my math, that adds up to a team that has the potential to break the record for futility that the Tigers were chasing last year.

You must get into it to like it.  It has as least as much action as another sport which takes 3 1/2 hours to play 60 minutes worth of action, and 2/3 of that time is just a bunch of guys standing around talking....

60 plays each team, 10 sec / play of actual action = 10 min each team, = 20 minutes of action in 3 1/2 hours....  time for a nap.
