Title: RAF jugs
Post by: bozon on February 16, 2004, 09:11:14 AM
I tried to search the net for some info on the service of p-47s in the RAF.
All I could find is that over 700 of them served in several RAF squadrons, probably all the Burma in close support role.

RAF never used thunderbolts in europe?
Any good sources on p-47s in the RAF out there? (more then just serial numbers and squadron numbers? that is all I could find).

Looked through my file and all I found was:

NO. 81 Sqdn........Code FL   Burma
Unknwn Sqdn......Code RS  Burma
Unknwn Sqdn......Code MU  Burma

Couldn't find any details, Sorry. Maybe you can go from there - hope it helps.

The Thunderbolt I & II was used by 16 Squadrons in RAF service and the majority were based in India, 1944/45.  A few detachments took place in Ceylon but as the war progressed some squadrons relocated to Burma (still majority in India though).

I can break it down to which squadrons and every base if you want to although it'll take a bit of time.
