What is a "RAMROD"?

Its a type of bomber mission, however, the details escape me.

Interdection or tactical raid with fighter support. Called ramrod because like a ramrod the bombers would ram through the fighter cover to hit the target.

RAF/FAA code for a Tactical Bombing raid (usually by Fighter/Bombers) including Fighter Escort to pave the way.
