What 1776 said! Always wait four weeks on things like this. Sit back and watch the guinea pigs squeel, er, make thier reports on the usenet news group:  comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.flight-sim

I started a topic on DX8 in the hardware forumn. It appears to screw up AH when RW is used in conjunction with AH.

 1776,
You are correct on the matter - there will be enough dolts... err... early adopters to test that thing for us.
On the other hand you should not discourage them from doing so  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

NOWWWW!!!!!!!! , i see this post (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)

I was wondering WHY after installing my SB live and Directx 8.0 RW would crash me.

I thought it was SB live related, Because SB live ( 16 bit emulation ) Porks DSL connections.

NUTTZ ( Snaps on his surgical gloves, and will cut this directx tumor from his comp)

I've been running various DX8 beta versions for a couple of months now. On my computer it works just fine. AH, WB, AW, FA, CFS2,GPL, SCGT etc all work with no more and no less trouble than they did before with DX7a. To see the benefits of it we'll probably have to wait until games/sims are coded  to take advantage of it. If you're nervous wait until your latest game requires it before switching over.

Anybody know if DX 8.0 support Force Feed Back? The bugs in the communication will be fixed, either by MS or HTC. - But FFB support in DX 8.0 will determine when or even if we get FFB in AH.

Grinbird:
I use DX8 to drive a Logictech Force Feedback wheel for various racing sims. Control is good with no spikes.

Thnx Pageflip

I tried to browse through all the doc I could find about DX8 but nothing said anything bout FFB.
It was pretty important because both Pyro and HiTech said earlier that FFB in AH, would only get FFB if DX8 supportet it.

Given Microsoft's move towards some FFB stuff, No way Bill would develope a Direct X  version that wouldn't support his own stuff and lose money.

OK, I've done it  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif) ,

DX8 on Win98 Osr2
Elsa ErasorX (Dr Nvidia 6.35)
SBLive (Dr V3.0)
...

Could not test RW since I'm still behind that ***** proxy, but AH, Cfs2 & Falcon seem to run fine on the system so far...

To be Continued....
