Anyone here own an S2000?
How do you like it?
-
:rofl
-
I've driven one. Thoght it was one of the best engineered cars that I've driven. Specially liked the gearbox, very smooth. Its got a very peaky torque curve but the engine is very smooth throughout the power band. The owner has never compained about it and he has driven some impressive cars. An old pal of mine.
;)
Me personally, I've got a big american truck in my future... No more sports cars for me till I can afford a Porsche.
-
I don't own an S2000, but own an Acura RSX. Same 2.0 liter VTEC I believe. Pretty powerful motor, and I'm way certain the S2000 is lighter than the RSX. Nice car.
-
Its a honda, im sure its disgusting when it comes to performance and engineering.

Okay, whats the full story P-boy? ;)
-
Awww dude I'm gonna be so jealous. Those are sweet cars. The engine is waaay better than the one in the RSX. Sounds like a cross between an F1 car and a sportbike.

Possible job move to Kalifornia SSR. Thinking of selling those I have on this coast instead of shipping them and picking something fun with daily driver potential.
Ill need a plate that says RICESUX or something so I can sleep at night...
Havent driven one yet but I assume its kinda like a 'super Miata' which I can dig. Cant beat the price of one a year or two old either - the 00's and 01's fall in under $20K.
Ill have to visit the local ::shudder:: Hon... Hon... ::deep breath:: Hon... duh dealership and try one on.
-
Not recommended you do that. What if your parked on some street and a buncha ricers park next to ya. Then they get out and see yor plates. They might decide to vandalize your car. Its a bad tactical situation. Better to flip them off and do the car chase in LA thing. Perhaps some shooting...
-
yes some form of handgun in the glove compartment is needed for driving in southern california. Everything in LA story is 100 percent true.

Not to sound too defensive, but 200 cc and 40 hp make it a WAAAY better motor? Just curious...
-
40 hp is way better I would say. Also 1000 more RPM. :)
-
I had one for a year and a half. It handled like a dream and was extremely quick, provided you pushed it hard. I didn't drive it enough to warrant keeping it, however, and it was NOISY (the downside of having to push it hard).
They're a great, fun, impractical car (just like convertible sports cars are supposed to be) but you've gotta love driving more than listening to music, having a conversation or preserving your hearing.
-
I've heard nothing but good about them with the usual V-Tech *****: you have to drive the car between 4000 and 8000. It's pretty quick though... lightweight and rwd... and only seats 2. Since it's a convertable, you won't have any problem picking up guys in cali.

Hell, I wont even need to pick up guys - just call FUNKED for some road head and a ride.
Does this mean Im required to post Enzo kills on the Honda boards?
He had a carlength on me but THEN I HIT VTEC LOL!!!!111twentythree HONDA 4 LYFE!
PS: Blue, thanks for the first hand. No rugrats, single on my tax returns, and my idea of 'car audio' is the exhaust note. Sounds like a good fit.
Keep you posted.

Cant say its not asthetically pleasing...

Blue - have you ever tracked yours? Is there some sort of "S2000 People Who Like to Drive Club?"

I have one. Yes, it is like a super Miata. 2.2 turns lock-to-lock makes it feel like a go kart. Best transmission in the world...I've driven a ton of really cool cars in my life, but the tranny on the S2k is the best bar none...well except for a couple of sequential boxes sold in Bimmers and Ferraris. A Miata shifter feels long and vague after driving an S2k.
Now the bad parts:
Not much torque to the wheels at low RPM means that even normal easy launches are a clutch slipping ordeal.
When out of VTEC (V-TECH is a phone dammit), the car is Clark Kent...Superman does not arrive until after 6000RPM (he stays till 9000 in the 2.0l car and 8000 in the 2.2).
If you enjoy modding your car, the s2k will frustrate you. The F20C (or F22C if you are getting the '04+ car) engine is pretty much maxed. CAI/header/exhaust might get you 10hp total...and you will have dropped $2300 in the process. The best mod is a supercharger or gears. Though going forced induction means a lot of other upgrades to keep the car reliable.
The gearing is such that at highway speeds in 6th gear the rpms are a little annoying. The bad thing is that for performance the car really needs shorter gears. Stock is 4.10...a 4.44 is better and many folks are going up to 4.77!
The car handles great on the autox course. But it is one of the most challenging cars I've ever driven...and that includes some very ass-heavy P-cars. You screw-up in the S2k and you will see snap-oversteer that would frighten even a '78 Porsche 911 Turbo driver (and I can tell you first hand that was an evil car). Any autox where at least once an s2k does not end up in a spinning cloud of dust and tire smoke is rare. If you drive the car perfect, it will amaze you. If you f-up...watch out.
There are a ton of little quirks...the radio sucks...if you use any street tire other than OEM, the handling will severly suffer...it is designed for folks less than 6' tall.
Best advice I can give is to get on s2ki.com and read for a bit, but ask me if you have any specific questions. (I sure wish private messaging was enabled here...on s2ki, I am negcamber so you can PM me there)
Are you thinking new '04 or a used 2.0l car?
-
Ya know Mike my Bosses Wife drives one of these.I'll ask HIM how he likes it.Hes got a Taho but Im sure hes took it for a spin:lol
-
We'd only laugh at you if you did this (http://pwp.netcabo.pt/0148961501/ferrari_crash.mpg) with it.
-
I totally agree on Crow's ideas about the S2K is right on. Fun to autocross but she's a handful. :D
Being that I own a Miata if I ever get rid of the Miata I would move up to a S2K for more power or pick up a used Boxter "S".
Good luck on your move Mike!

just in time for the gay marriage thing they just passed in frisco. very topical.
lazs
-
Of course - because a convertible says 'Gay' in spades.
Those damn Shelby Cobra owners are all pillow biters. ;)
-
The cobra and the healys aren't convertibles... they're roadsters. BIG difference cakeboy.
MiniD
-
Define 'Roadtser' for me? Id bet this car falls into the category too.
Seesh, I havent even bought the thing yet - silence BMW Civic Hatchback driver.
-
Hmmmm.... never was impressed much myself with that Honda. I guess I just mentally categorized it as another Miata. But I'm admittedly "anti-rice".
I was quite impressed however with the looks of the new Mazda RX-8. Nice looking car. Not sure how it drives though.
-
A Roadster is an car with an open body that seats two and has a folding fabric top and a luggage compartment in the rear. As far as I know thats what the English call it.
Then we have Sportscars..they fit a wide sum of cars.. from convertables to 2dr Sport Coupes.
Whats a Roadster and whats a Sportscar? Heck if I know.. I do know my Miata is classified as Roadster, where as the S2K is classified Sportscar.
I'm sure someone else will speak up as well.

Male menopause kicking in nicely I see.....
-
The original defenition of a roadster was an open car with fabric top and no outside doorhandles or roll up windows. The 100 4 Healeys and AC/Cobra are roadsters as are model T's and model A ford roadsters... there are Model a convertables and cabriolets.
All jap convertables are gay. That takes nothing from their abilities... they are simply gay. Just as it is not impossible to get beat up by a gay man, it is not impossible to get beaten at the track by a jap convertable... that in no way makes them less gay tho.

BTW Saur there are tons of car clubs in Cali. This is where hot rod culture was born. You will have no problem finding like-minded car owners no matter if you get the Honduh or stick with the Porch.
