Title: A little outing to the USS Hornet in Alameda
Post by: mietla on February 19, 2004, 03:07:25 PM: Ramzey and I are thinking about going to Alameda one of those weekends. Nothing decided yet.

Anyone interested in joining us?

I was thinking aboout seeing Hornet, having lunch and perhaps swinging by the Hiller Aviation Museum in Redwood City.

Also, we need to revive the gun range trip.

I would spend hours as a kid watching the A4s, A7s, A6s, F4s, F8s and anything else that flew there as they came in less than 500 ft above my house on approach...That went on day after day, 24 hrs...of course it was the height of the Vietnam War and training cycles never ended with 4 CVs working out of Alameda and constantly deploying on Westpac.

We got a 3 month backlog... in the RV world that is HUGE!

I've bought 5 tickets, and have to call them ASAP about the rest

BTW, I visited the Hornet 3 years ago, it's a wonderful piece of history.

Well, whatever Curval, but at least I know that boat will still be tied to the pier tomorrow instead of lost because its owners didn't tie it securely enough in a hurricane. :rolleyes:

I've reserved the whole day just in case. Our tour ticket gives us a full day pass.
