He took it to a whole 'nother level.

Not trying to hijack here, but I got a tour of the Fender factory recently. Awesome stuff.
They had a guitar in the custom shop that Eric Clapton ordered... to match his new Mercedes.
They still make amps with tubes instead of transistors. They have customers that insist the sound is better with tubes.
-
fender does make a few digital emulator amps,,like the cybertwin,,but very good amps:) i like tubes my self,,very powerfull<~~did ya get to see the cybertwin head? every time you turn to a new setting the amps nobs start turning them selfs,,lol,i would like to get one of them amps just to keep,,lol technical wonders
-
and btw stevie was the blues man from hell:) that guy was great,,one of the saddest things i ever seen,,was him tring to play the national at a game:( it sounded bad,,,you could tell he was faling apart

JB!!!!!!!!!! The country Hendrix! :D that dude cracks me up and amazes me all at the same time. And yes I am semi-crazy!
-
Yeah I love it when he will put a Hendrix "quote" in the middle of a solo.
I like Dick Dale a lot too. Get Unknown Territory if you don't have it already.
-
I still have my Stratocaster I bought in 1965 for 320 bucks...I turned down an offer of $4,000 from a guy that plays in a Ragge band at the Ocean Deck here in Daytona. Any offers ? It is mint with a sunburst finish, fretboard is rosewood still looks new. The Kustom amp I had with it is still working great...Twin 15 Jensens It has tubes as well.
-
I would love to have it.
But im afraid my old lady would kill me if I bought another guitar LOL.
-
a true conduit..
I mean.. the guy was unconcious when he played ( a good thing btw).. he channeled it from somewhere else..
amazing and from the soul
he'd close his eyes and be IN the music.. gone
-
Holy cow...a 65 Stratocaster. Keep it in the family dude.
Ive got my dads 62 Jaguar. Its been through alot but still sounds awesome and looks good.
SRV had what we white boys like to call soul. And a lot of it. Great player and the guy sang from a place in his gut few people could understand.
-
im sure that guitar is wortha good penny,,counts on how good of shape it is in,,i got a buddy who has a 1971 telecaster and a big head stock jimmy hendrix special strat,,both look brand new,,i know he told me he wouldnt let go of the blond seethrew wood telie for no less than 3,000 to me as a freind,,lol,,but it sure is a pretty guitar

DUDE! My first speaker cabinet was a Kustom :D It was electric blue with those puffy sides and real glittery :D Bad bellybutton speakers for the time though!

SRV was definitely THE man. He was w/out a doubt the biggest influence on my musical career. But for goodness sakes, please spell his name right. ;) It's VaughAn, emphasis on that last A.
Junior Brown can't even be mentioned in the same sentence as SRV. I saw Junior Brown a couple years back. I was really entertained for the first couple songs, but from there on out it was repetitious. He knows a dozen good licks and throws them in every song he plays.
Tubes really do sound better in an amp than transistors, otherwise known as solid state amps. The tone is a lot warmer, nowhere near as harsh and brittle sounding as most solid state amps. I have a solid state Kustom that I'll use for particular shows if I have to change my tone a lot. It has a bunch of built in effects that are handy. But most of the time it's just a Strat, TS-9 and Fender tube amp.

I stand corrected thx.:)

SRV was someone I discovered later in life...after the fact you could say. He's def one of my favorites. I've thought that "crossfire" would be a good soundtrak to an AH film.

Here's a neat story about SRV. On his last album with Double Trouble, "In Step," there's a song called Riviera Paradise. It's a real soft, jazzy number that's incredible. If you listen to his Live at Carnegie Hall album you can hear him noodling what became the intro to it and the end of Lenny. Anyways....
They were in the studio making the album and Stevie asked the engineer to turn down the lights, said he needed to "make amends." That's when he launched into Rivera Paradise. Tape was running on it and everything locked. As the song was getting close to the end, the engineer noticed the tape reel was just about out. He started jumping up and down waving his arms trying to get Chris Layton, the drummer's, attention to let him know they needed to end it NOW. Chris looked at Stevie and he was just entranced, no way he could let him know they were about to lose the whole song. They played on, the song ended, and seconds afterward the tape reel was empty. :) They recorded it a couple more times, but nothing came close to that first take.

my state is forever scarred by his death.. from a STOOPID fgng pilot flying a helocoptor in unfamiliar hilly terrain.
SRV is dmn good... chittlins con carne is my personal fav track. a close second is life by the drop.
-
Speaking of '65 strats...
Fender will still MAKE you a '65 Stratocaster, with all original electronics. They even special order fabric coated wiring to make them authentic. ... On top of that, they will "age" it for you too... if you want.

dick dale .. think the movie pulp fiction.,....
he did that "surf music" song.
thats what he does
-
I meant LOST as in.. lost from this world and into his music
during the time he played. it had nothing to do with where he was on the neck or in the song or anything like that.
I miss the dude and his music.
I saw him and Jeff Beck just before he died..
incredible.

Dick Dale is "the king of the surf guitar". He pioneered a lot of loud guitar stuff, surf instrumentals with lots of reverb. He did a lot of R&D for Leo Fender because anything Leo built, Dick Dale could break. :)
Funny thing is that while he still kicks ass, he is most well known for something he recorded 40 years ago, Miserlou, the opening track in Pulp Fiction.

not the same thing ;) There's something about a 20+ year old Fender that just can't be beat. The way the fret boards ware down (the frets can be replaced) but even the worn down frets make for "easier" lead playing, for me at least.

:D

Just waiting for the part where Mr Black actually met/knew Stevie Ray .. maybe even jammed with him on regular occasions. Maybe he owns one of Stevie Ray's guitars or sumpin'. :D
-
There's actually a Dick Dale/SRV connection. They both were in the movie Back to the Beach playing the song "Pipeline." They released the song on the latest greatest hits album "The Real Deal," i think that's what it's on but not positive. Which leads me to another story.... :)
Dick and Stevie didn't get along at all. When they cut Pipeline for the movie, Dick wanted to just use a synthesized track with their guitars on top. Stevie being the purist he is told him no way, he wanted a live band. They ended up recording it with a track, but then Stevie went back in the studio and added a live band behind it. The things you can get away with when you're at the height of your fame, hehe. I couldn't imagine being in a spot to tell Dick Dale to F off.

Nope closest Ive ever been to SRV was when I visited his gravesite.
-
No one trumps Jimi.
-
LOL yeah but stevie could sing.
-
Guess Elvis jokes are outta the question too..
BTW,if you want the SRV sound "try" playing a Strat through a Kendrick 4212 amp(hand made in Texas) with the built in tube reverb unit..Good for Dick Dale sounds too.
Yeah, and Jimi still tops em all.
-
My favorite song is probably Life by the Drop, but it all depends on my mood...could be The sky is crying, Cold Shot, Pride and Joy, Boot Hill, damn too many to name :)
Favorite instrumental is Little Wing, SRV was the only guy able to take one of Jimi's songs and and actually improve on it IMO.
