Title: FPS went thru the roof?
Post by: Pyemia on December 12, 2001, 02:54:00 AM
When I first started playing Aces High, I was so impressed with the game, I went out and bought a whole new system specifically to play AH with.  Pretty high end system with high end graphics card at the time.  Back then I was getting 75fps (capped).

As time went by and I installed the new versions my FPS went down significantly and I attributed this to the graphics enhancements etc.  Yesterday my FE was crawling along at 35FPS.

Today my Windows 2000 (POS!!!!) died. So I burned all my essentials (mostly porn) onto a few CD's, formatted the HD and reinstalled everything. Getting 60FPS (capped because new monitor in high res only does 60).

So my point is, maybe the patches are having less effect on your FPS then you think, maybe its time to do some HD spring cleaning?

I made this post because i've heard a few people complaining about the patches ruining FPS, I thought so too until today.

Zygote is it your monitor holding you back or the nvidia Win2k refresh rate bug?

That sets your refresh to 60hz on all display modes, regardless of your monitor.

Pye - when you reinstalled W2000, which version of Direct X was installed?  I have just had an amazing frame rate boost by installing DX 8.1 to replace DX 8.0.   See my post in the H&S forum.  Direct X 8.1 (http://www.hitechcreations.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=10&t=001526)

Not sure MrRipley, think the monitor, I can change refresh to 70 but the monitor blanks out and makes hissing noises.   :D

Using directx 7.0
