i have become a true addict.

im up to over 1 1fl oz. a week. i have to buy the 5oz. bottles to last maybe a month. im putting 5-6 drops on every potato chip i eat, let alone everything else.

it all started maybe 2 years ago with :
which tastes better but not as hot (and only sold locally in the baby 1.5oz bottles).

now i bring it to work LOL. i have adjusted my diet to only thing i can put it on.

yesterday @ work a co-worker said he smelt tabasco around 9AM... i shower @ night before bed not in the morning.. and had had a snack right before bed: toritilla chips with tabasco on them.

turns out it was coming out of my pores LOL.

funny thing is now i wont eat (because they dont taste good with tabasco on them.. and i have tried them all):

Thai
mashed potatoes and gravy
chips ahoy cookies (any desert type foods even)
sweedish meatballs
turkey (for some reason chicken is MADE for tabasco but turkey isn't)
salad
peas
stuffing
tuna

thats all so far but im sure ill find other things tabasco doesnt go with

When you find yourself looking for a change JB, find a local oriental grocery (or order from the Internet) some Huyfong Sriracha sauce.

Quote
Sriracha is made from sun ripen chilies which are ground into a smooth paste along with garlic and packaged in a convenient squeeze bottle. It is excellent in soups, sauces, pastas, pizzas, hot dogs, hamburgers, chowmein or on anything else to give it a delicious, spicy taste. Like all our sauces, we use only the highest quality ingredients and never any artificial colors or flavorings.

http://www.huyfong.com/no_frames/sriracha.htm

I started out on tobasco, but once I tried Sriracha it was hard to go back. It's like super catsup. Fairly hot (in the tobasco range, perhaps a bit hotter) but not overpowering and with a good flavor. I eat it with most meals, though Pizza is the best. I've even added it to tunafish to give it some kick :)

For cooking, I now use the companion product:

Quote
A spicy sauce with a touch of garlic.

Chili Garlic is a tempting blend of coarsely ground chilies and garlic. The delicious flavor of the sauce complements everything from a cracker to poultry to soups. It has a full-bodied flavor that will make your mouth water.

http://www.huyfong.com/no_frames/garlic.htm

There are some really hot hot sauces out there, but I like to actually taste at least some of the food's original flavor.

[EDIT: As an added benefit, you only feel the heat when you eat it, if you know what I mean :)]

Sriracha is OK, the best thing about it is it's cheap.  I also prefer the flavor of Tabasco to Sriracha.  Tabasco on pizza is greeet.

In college, I would drink a whole bottle in a swig for money.  I go through a couple of bottles of tabasco a week, plus a jar of japs and various amounts of screaming(http://www.lizking.com/sriracha.jpg) chicken sauce and the salsa on my breakfast tacos.

I am so addicted to hot food that I carry hot sauce when I travel, although it is less of a problem now than five years ago.

I generally prefer the Rooster (or chicken sauce as we call it) over Tabasco, though I do think Tabasco tastes better on steaks.

I also thinks chicken sauce makes a better tasting bloody mary :aok

When I was married, I was given as a wedding gift a gallon jug of Tabasco.  I have about 3/4 left, and though it is a vile appearing fluid in the jar, it tastes great when decanted.  Very smoky flavor, like the smell of oak burning.  I take a bottle out every now and then, but I want it to last at least 20 years.

They funniest thing to do to your squad leader when he's being a salamander invovles tabasco.  My squadleader was a salamander about gettin HIS particular canteen back when out in the field....one day while doing a water run I took one of the small little tabasco bottles that come in MREs and dumped it into his canteen.  Knowing that he'd be a baby about getting the right one back.

After a 9 mile force march in full packs tobasco water doesnt go well with the system.  I dont think I came close to killing him but he wasnt happy.  All in good fun though, i've had that happen to me a few times since than!

I go thru a bottle of the Tabasco Jalapeno sauce about every week. It's the best watermelon evar on steak. A bottle of regular Tabasco usually lasts me a month or so. Don't really care for the chipotle stuff, but it's ok on eggs.

I've drank several bottles of Tabasco for bar bets. It's not the heat, it's the vinegar that will choke you. (Hint: Drink a glass of milk afterwards to prevent unpleasant after effects.)

I keep a cruet of squeezed lime juice, salt and tiny hot peppers sliced in half lengthwise (to release seeds) in my fridge.

This is my fish sauce. Lime + hot peppers = yowza.  From Bimini.

Dang, I didn't realize sriracha had such a following.  Fresh hot peppers are good -- they give a nice, bright brassy flavor; Dried chili peppers give more subdued, complex flavors. Sriracha delivers a spicy kick with a very pure and very simple chili tone to it, with no aftertaste from the vinegar (This is a big deal). The chicken excels in supporting roles.  It blends seamlessly into tomato sauces, for example.
(though I usually add my own garlic)

tabasco, on the other hand, is its own beast, and adds its own unmistakable flavor to whatever you add it to.

Lousiana hot sauce is also great for shining brass and copper.  I learned THAT as a young Marine as well when we ran out of brasso and neverdull.  It works better than the both too.

Being born and raised in south Louisiana it's kinda amazing to see how Tabasco and Louisiana Hot Sauce has spread throughout the country. When I moved to CA I was amazed to see Tabasco on the tables of many restaurants. I'm glad two good S. LA companies are doing so well.

The squirly thing is I like Pepper Plant - California Original. Not hot but a very good flavor. :)

Btw, Crystal Hot Sauce (http://www.baumerfoods.com/)  is another Louisiana brand (New Orleans) that is excellent and flavorful. It's also a lot cheaper than Tabasco.

That's interesting Munkii. It's the most popular brand in Malaysia by far (Amongst Malays, Chinese and Indian Malaysians in my experience). Maggi Chilli Sauce probably comes in second.

I've never heard of Rooster...I must look it up in one of the chinese supermarkets and give it a try.

A friend of mine brought one of those 'Super Hot Sauces' back from the States for me to try.

'Ha Ha Ha,' I said, 'What do the Americans know about Chilli Sauce?' Not being put off by the label (Picture of a man screaming) I poured a dollop on the end of my finger and ate it.

My lips went entirely numb for about 10 minutes and I can't think of the last time my mouth was in so much pain.

That picture on the label was for real. Only used it in cooking after that in small quantities.

My eyes water every timeI even think of it now. That stuff was just lethal.

the Rooster is just a play on Sriracha.  Chili sauces are magnificent, I must agree.  I have approximately 40 different brands in my cabinets and refridgerator between myself and my girlfriend.  She said she never knew American's liked hot food until she met me.  I can eat spicer food than her, or anyone in her family.  I will admit I draw the line at curry, not because of the heat, but the coconut.  Curry powder is wonderful though.  Thai food is the greatest on the planet for spice and flavor.

Upon further review of that paragraph, I have self diagnosed myself with ADD. :D

This stuff is scary.  It's 7.1 Million Scoville units hot.  To give you an idea - Tabasco is 5,000 Scovilles and a habanero pepper is 350,000 Scovilles.  I'm pretty sure this stuff would make your tongue wilt going in and your anus fall off going out.

Here's a review of this sauce from the site (LOL): "I was involved in a chili pepper eating contest and was one of the last two finalists.I was doing quite well with handleing the heat of all the raw peppers. The judges felt this was going to be a draw so they pulled out this mysterious little grey bottle. They cut the top of a green chili and added a large drop of this brown substance to the inside of the pepper.Well my apponent backed down before eating it so I won the competition. But I couldnt stop there the crowd was cheering for me to eat it so I did. I felt nothing for the first ten seconds then as soon as I walked away I felt this burn from my throat to my stomach and then the heavens blackened and lightning smacked me in the head my world was an instant inferno! I was perilized from the waist up. Blinded by the tears in my eyes and the lack of oxygen do to my throat feeling like it was being torn by razor blades. After twenty minutes or so satan himself patted me on the back and said I must go now but, (BUT)I will see you in the morning.I woke up the next day and and for the next ten hours Satan kept his promise as he started pulling miles of barbed wire out of my ass.I have never eaten anything so hot in my life or so powerful. A+++++ for creating the best hot sauce in the entire world. I am asking my whole family to pitch in and but me a bottle for xmas. - CHILI MEDIC"

Yes, I've got a bottle of Tabasco and one of Maggi in my desk drawer too. Tabasco is fanstastic with pasta, and Maggi is a dream on burgers.

I read somewhere that chilli is addictive, because when you eat it, your body releases endorphins to counteract the pain.

That 'source' stuff that SOB posted ought be banned under the Geneva convention or should only be used to pour on the genitals of child molesters.

Hot Sauces should be their own food group.

I have been addicted to Louisana Hot Sauce and Crystal's for the last 10 years.  Both outstanding mix of heat and flavor.  Recently moved to Frank's Red Hot Sauce.   Same heat as the other two but 5 times the flavor.

Their website has a bunch of great recipes.

Supposedly this sauce was the secret ingredient for the original Buffalo Wings.
