They should stop or we will bring in regulations
If we are to really tackle knife crime, then there must be an adequate deterrent to stop thugs from carrying them in the first place."
-
The best thing about Glasgow is the M8 motorway, which allows people to pass through the city without stopping.

What next? Will they have to have a permit to carry "hands"?
-
if we can just ban guns, crime will end and everyone will be safe.
-
My grandfather came here from Scotland..
funny how perceptions are.. I allways felt that the Scotts and aussies were tough minded independent peoples but now it would appear that ... they are letting their women tell em what to do.

Forks!!!!! They will still have forks, cant you see they will use the forks next!!!
-
After the knives are banned they will need to look into banning sticks and stones.
-
I think its time they ban criminals...
-
I'm glad they are finally addressing the "sharp instrument" problem. First Scotland, then England.
Butter knives, of course, should remain unbanned. Forks will have to have rounded, dull tips but not quite to the extent of a spoon.
No price it to high. Turn in those pen knives, lads!
-
OMG that reads like an Onion article. I think the UK will soon be assimilated in the EU nanny state.
-
What happened to that guy with the blue face that yelled "Freedom!"?
So scots no longer wer kilts but schoolgirl skirts.
-
Actually, Wallace wielded a six-foot long, 35 pound butter knife.
But you know Hollywood...........
-
:rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl
to ensure no thug uses a knife we should sell ak-47s on every corner for the low low one time only price of 24.99 US
-
ROTFLMAO...This from the land of Braveheart....:rofl
-
now now... a little sensible knife regulation never hurt anyone... I don't see how turning in all your sharp knives and allowing them only at retaurants and knife clubs to registered owners who pay a small fee of a couple hundred dollars a year per knife could hurt anyone.

This news makes us very happy!!! :lol

And why not! It works for the airlines. :aok

It does?

"When they came for the stranger, I said nothing. When they came for the neighbor, I said nothing. When they came for my brother, I said nothing. When they came for me...I pulled out my Smith&Wesson and put one right between the eyes!" Or something like that.
Anyway, there are plenty who made light of gun-control opponents when they suggested that, "Next, they'll have to ban knives." No laughing here.
-
Knives have been banned for decades. You're not allowed to carry a blade that is over a certain length or if it is of a certain type (e.g. flick-knife or hilted). Sorry to rain on your parade.
-
Yeah, I remember that too, Sabre.
-
Obviously, the present knife ban is insufficient. There must be further confiscation and registration. BTW, it's not just knives; it's "sharp instruments". Scissors and such must be regulated as well.
Don't worry; you'll still be able to use scissors at licensed, recognized clubs. After you check them out, of course.
-
Watch for the "Pointy Stick" Amendment. Coming Soon....
-
dowding... apparently the "flick" and "hilted" bans weren't good enough to make people be nice to each other... further draconian measures are needed.
Perhaps a "naked only" rule for people out in public? Maybe a little plastic impervious bubble for each and every citizen?

So there are no laws regarding the carrying of offensive weapons in public in the US?

Apparently the proliferation of "flick" and "hilted" weapons weren't good enough to make people be nice to each other... further proliferation is obviously needed.
Switchblade for every child! Bowie knife for every adolescent!

I say:
STAB THEM WITH YOUR PLASTIC SPORKS!!!!!!!!
-
Don't worry, if you're long-time meat eater with lots of steak house restaurant credit card bills to back up your claim you'll probably be able to get a concealed carry license for a short sharp instrument. Maybe a 1 inch cutting edge; nothing larger than that really necessary to cut throught a steak. Whetstones, of course, will still be down at the local constabulary. You'll have to retake the test and requalify every time it needs sharpening.
The Indian food fanatics need not apply; curried fare doesn't really need a knife. Same with the Italian food faction.

Toad - milking unfunny glib-itudes since... forever.

Sure there are. We just don't ban stuff wholesale like you guys though.
Yeah, I find this unfunny stuff absolutely hilarious, given the previous discussions on this BBS.
This news from Scotland ties in so well with the previous "sharp instrument" debate I have to smile. It seems no absurdity is absurd enough over there. Here we were making an huge joke of such an absurd idea and the First Minister of Scotland actually proposes to start down that road. Using the firearm trail as a guide, they probably won't stop until no home has anything sharper than a butter knife and a spork. Well, that'd be the law-abiding homes. Your criminals will somehow still miraculously be able to arm themselves with "sharp instruments".
:D

Dowd,
Here in Cali, it is a felony to have Nunchuck? (the two sticks with a chain in between) or most martial arts weapons,(well it used to be at least, but it has been a few years since I picked up the penal code book) But you can carry a full on 8 inch plus fixed blade combat knife on your belt as long as it is not concealed!
I knew a boyscout, who carried a Cold Steel Tanto with a ten inch blade on his belt everywhere! He even named it. Strange little fellow he was.
-
Are they going to ban tree branches there as well?
Hell two women where killed in my town with a tree branch...
-
So they've actually banned knives? It has been framed as a bill, passed through Parliament, the Lords and is now legislature? You mean this isn't an idea purported by some opportunistic politico attempting to look 'tough on crime'?
That's right! I forgot. You don't have politicians in the US, playing the popularity game while trying to justify their salaries. My 'bad'.
-

HAH finally PROOF that the scottish intelligence agency is monitering this board
betcha anything this is some english but kissing lowlander trick to aid the reinvasion...no braveheart this time

I don't believe anyone said that.
Laz's recent gun study thread, which of course is totally inaccurate to those who don't agree with it, pretty much shows how effective the various gun bans around the world have been. Just a wild guess, but I suspect the knife bans won't work either.
However, as I said, the fireams law experience over there makes this worth watching for the entertainment value alone.

when i go out i put on my lumberjack shirt and carry a axe, i tell the cops i just got off work.
if any of you hung out in "bad" places like i have you would know you don't need guns or knives, a box cutter works real good (cheap, eazy to get,and it is a"tool") also that canopener with the triangle point on one end, in fact anything can be used as a weapon (base ball bats), the point is you cannot pass enough laws to disarm the criminal, all you can do is allow the citizen to defend themselves.
>>>>
cop:: sir , where are you going with the bat?
citizen:: ahh, just going to the park to hit a few balls , sir.
cop:: ok , have a nice day.
<<<<<

the point is you cannot pass enough laws to disarm the criminal, all you can do is allow the citizen to defend themselves.
and as ive said countless times...you can pass enough to disarm the criminal to the point that the average person can defend himself without having to buy a ak-47 (overstatement but it gets the point across...i do of course think that knife bans are beyond hilarious...)
-
john... your problem is the shortsightedness and selfishness of youth... not everyone can weild a baseball bat or boxcutter effectively or... has any concievable plausable excuse to have one....
Also... why do you feel that you have to lie in order to have the tools needed to defend yourself? does that seem right to you?

why does he hang out in places where he needs those tools in the first place...or why does he feel that fight is more appropriate in a situation that flight? if he can get close enough to use a box cutter then chances are he could just have easily buggered off...
maybe we should get rid of this silly no weapons thing on airlines...if we arm everyone with a bowie knife then any terrorist or angry drunk person who tries make a fuss can be dealt with without much fuss

Some people have no choice but to be in "those places".They may have no where else to live,or may work there.
As for,"he could just have easily buggered off",if that were true, then no one would ever be assaulted or robbed.Sometimes flight isn't an option.
-
sox explained it perfectly.... not everyone is an able bodied young white guy with baseball experiance during his high school track star years...who lives and works in white middle class neighborhood and never accidentally or because of circumstance... ever ventures into risky areas.

"""Some people have no choice but to be in "those places".They may have no where else to live,or may work there. """'
then again , maybe i was one of the "bad boys" that hung out there and made it one of "those places" that nice people never go.
-
either way john... it makes your opinion on what other people need to defend themselves even more worthless.

what ever laz, i carry a 38 snub nose.

Quit picking on the Scots!
If it wasn't for them we wouldn't have.... uh....... we wouldn't have......... hmmmmm?
Hagis?
-
golf?
-
plaid?
-
so you are an ex gangbanger who doesn't need anything but a baseball bat but carries a snub nosed .38? What make and model and what ammo do you carry in it?
lazs
-
gun: smith & wesson hammerless airweight (alum frame) 2" barrel
ammo; winchester 38 special 110 grain silvertip hollow point
it's carried in a bagmaster inside the pants holster.
would you also like to hear about my 357 and 9mm ?
-
Gonna be kinda hard to eat a steak:(
-
actually john... airweigts are J frames and don' t have 2" barrels... with that in mind... no, I don't want to hear about your other guns... any more than I want to hear about what a bad boy you used to be. or your baseball bat for that matter.
lazs
-
boy am i stupid . laz is right, the barrel on my j-frame 442 airweight is not 2"...it's 1 13/16"....
-
more like an inch and a half.... but who's counting?
