He did a good thing back in the day, but now he needs to go away.
-
Yeah well.. him and all the current president candidates and current president need to find a nice deep hole to go away in.
I feel like I'm voting between retardest and retardest in this (and the past) election.

Why? Is he responsible for the Ford Rotory Girder recall.......

He sucks, but he serves an important purpose, to suck away a very important weak-minded component of the DNC electorate. :)
-
nader for prez, this is bad news for bush , all the crazy right wing wackos will vote for nader instead of bush.
bush lost so many votes to nader in the last election, bush almost lost.

Coulda swore it was the DNC that lost votes, i.e. Gore would be our prez now if it weren't for the Greens.

That's your opinion. I have respect for Nader, though I disagree with some of his ideas, far as method goes. Suppose it's a 70s thing. He made manufacturers toe the line with quality control, and must have done some good, though he was a political figure during my formative years. I remember people talking about Nader all the time, with some degree of reverence. They had enough respect for Nader to make sure they didn't do anything wrong in the workplace.
Did Nader start OSHA? I know he was instrumental in the investigations of automobile safety...that's what I remember most. Back then he was a cool dude, far as we were concerned.
Of course back then, I was 16 and impressionable. Nader was a folk hero back in those days. He stood up to car manufacturers, and imo did some good.

I support Nader and the hundreds of votes he will take from Edwards/Kerry.

Bet you loved Ross Perot.

Yeah, gore lost because of Nader.

gore lost because the SC gave it to bush
gore lost because jeb bush fixed the election
gore lost because of hanging chads
gore lost because donna brazil ran his campaign(we gona beat them white boys)
gore lost because he didn't carry his home state of Tenn.
gore lost because he wore the wrong clothes
gore lost because he had a bad hair day
gore lost because clinton endorsed him
gore lost because the white racists would not let the blacks vote
gore lost because the democrats in florida voted for the wrong person.
gore lost because_____________( add your own reason)

As I recall, many people who voted for Nader said that if he wasn't running, they would have voted for Gore. I hope the republican party sent him a 'Thank You' gift basket.
The poster who suggested that Nader inconvenienced Bush in the 2000 election is terribly out of touch.
-
2 million people or so voted for Nader. This happened mostly in key areas. Even 1 person's vote can change 10+ electoral votes.
-
Scratches head...
Why would people vote for a candidate that they know will loose based on last election results?
Im sorta confused...

If you most agree with their views, vote for them. If they get enough votes, they will get exposure. With exposure comes more campaign contributions. With more contributions comes a better campaign. With a better campaign comes a greater chance at becoming a serious politcal party. Or I guess we could all just vote for one of two parties that cannot realistically get all the issues out there in the right importance to your particular belief.

You really believe that? Honestly, you believe that? :lol
-
Well, it can happen. I mean 17 votes from florida were swung by a couple hundred people.
-
A little over 500 actually. And Nader got over 90,000 votes in Florida. Lotsa votes that would have gone to Gore. Damn the luck.
-
GWB needs to go away...I would luv to seee him TRY and debate Nader.
-
People vote for Nader because they would never vote Repub and there was no Demo worth voting for.
I think it's funny he's screwing with the Demos again. He's trying to get them to straighten up and he will continue to run till they do. Making it harder for them to win.
-
Nothing wrong with Nader running for President, just like there was nothing wrong with Perot way back in 1992.
If the Democratic or Republican candidates are not attractive enough in the eyes of the voters, then that's their fault, not the fault of the third party candidates.
That's why they call this a democracy. Competition.....it's a good thing.
-
Its all good.
The thing that bothered me is that Nader said he would drop out of the race if it looked like Bush was going to win. That makes me wonder if he has any smarts at all and sure as hell wouldnt make me consider him seriously to begin with.
Im thinking nader = dork

nader has allways been dishonest. He got famous for attacking the Corvair.... a car GM was not doing to well with... Nader wrote "unsafe at any speed" He had never driven the corvair or any other car as he didn't and doesn't know how to drive...
the corvair was and is a good handling car. in the testing nader did he could not get one corvair to roll over but his drivers got 8 of the volkswagens to roll over. In order to get a picture of an upside down corvair one of the drivers had to hit a trench sideways. Anyone who ever drove a volkswagen and a corvair back then knew what was up. Volksies rolled in a high wind on the freeway. He tested then side by side with the corvairs but didn't even mention it in the book. Corvairs were winnin autocross races before and while the book was coming out.

Vote for Nader... we'd all look good in green (Kemp aka cannabis) pants!
The kind of pants that are good for the environment and fun to share with a neighbor. No washing with poluting detergents. When they get dirty..just smok them.
And after 4 years of the Nad-eeee-ator, we'll no longer take the Democrats and Republicans for granted. We'll be begging them to come back.
But you know, Nader is right about one thing. There is no distinction between the Democrats and Republicans these days.
Heck with Kerry's voting record, I'd swear he's a Republican.

I wonder if Bush will accept a debate with Nader there.. Kerry still has to appeal to centrists so he will be tame. Nader will be like haveing Noem Cholmsky there..I doubt Bush will accept or the format will be like reading a script.

Kerry wasn't picked to appeal to centrists. Unlikely he'll be pulling the wool over very many eyes.

Nonsense!

He called out GM on makeing a car that blew up in a minor accident. Go read a book.
-
Blew up? His crusade was fueled by the total inability of Americans to drive rear engined cars.
-
Go Ralph!
-
RUN RALPH RUN!
-
Nader contended that because of an unsafe design, the Corvair was prone to go out of control and tip over under certain driving conditions.
It was the Pinto that was accused of blowing up indiscriminately.
The case against the Pinto wasn't Nader, it was trial lawyers.
-
one of the corvair test drivers said that the corvair was prone to understeer untill pushed really hard past it's limits where it snapped into allmost uncontrollable oversteer... just like a porche... nader left out the porche part. the volkswagen was and is the car prone to rollover..
read a book froggie.

It doesn't take an Andretti to realize that it is unsafe to drive with a big metal pole in front of you.

And has it been proven wrong?
A minority of troops did some terrible things over there. Why deny it.

Now I know why I have so little use for your opinions. Before you tell someone to READ a book, YOU go read "Unsafe At Any Speed" by Ralph Nader. Here's a real brief clue for you: Nader's issue with the Corvair had NOTHING to do with fire. It was Nader's position that the Corvair could be induced to roll over if the car skidded sideways. I happen to OWN a Corvair, and no, it won't roll over easily, in fact, despite slinging it around like it was a Daytone Prototype, I haven't been able to even get close. And Nader is an idiot. Next time you read that drivel and get your facts straight. If it isn't too much to ask.
-
Yea your right, i was wrong. must have been thinking about the pinto or something.
What year is your corvair, nader went after the 1960 model. The ones from what, 62 and up, were fine from what ive read. Nader is a bit screwy, and i think there could have been a better figure head of the consumer saftey movement.
-
Frog,
I dont think his crusade was even aimed at a specific year.
The problem with rear engined cars, as Lazs pointed out, is that you cannot brake while turning or you will snap oversteer and it takes alot of seat time to avoid - or use - understeer under throttle while turning.
With all the weight in the back of the car (911, Corvair, Bug) the rear end will swing like a pendulum when traction is broken.
For an amature driver, its a serious issue. For a professional pilot, it allows him to do things not possible with a front engined car on a race track.
Nader needed publicity - the Corvair was an awesome ride and still has a very strong cult following today.
-
I think the spare in the front of the bug wieghs more then the engine.

Kerry sure denied it when he reatracted the testiomy (professionally written speech by fringe leftist ted kennedy speec writer adam walinskky) he gave in front of congress... Not to menation his wild attempts to stop further publishing of that book and restrict its distribution....
You really are a tool, arent you....

He retracted his statements? Really? This i didnt know. Do you have links? His speech was written by adam walinskky, really? a speech ghost written by a speech writer.( you know even college students do that). Wild attempts to stop the publishing of the book? really thats something ive never heard. Links?
Now remember i am very critical of alot of things i read or hear. So unless you can provide proof of these claims i call shinanigans, but if you can you can call me a tool and i will rethink my support of kerry.

Oh and lets try to make these links be to major media sources and not some wacko far right or left internet site, because i have plenty of those claiming anything you want to believe.
-
You say Nader will win the election for Bush like Perot won the election for Clinton. Well I know Ross Perot, and Ralph Nader is no Ross Perot.

Its been mentioned on the boards a lot - there was a thread discussing the book in part of it.
His testimonny in 1971, still during the war, was touted as the honest emotinal testimony of a young vietnam vet. Having it writtewn by a politically connected left wing professional seriously damages its credibility.
-
Why I hope nader gets a few Million votes, In fact I hope him and Kerry split their votes down the middle.

WRONG. If the moron would have won his home state, Gore and hs censorship pleading moron of a wife would be in the Oval.
How long is his beard now?
Karaya
Oh yeah and the W is as big of a moron as Gore.

so froggy... the only good thing that nader did was save us from the corvair that...... blew up? fuzzy headed little lad... stop visiting the lefty wacko sights.

Actually i never visit any left wing or right wing websites. The internet is a joke when it comes to reliable information.

so is whatever place you got the "nader saved the world from corvairs blowing up" idea.

i was saying that off the top of my head, got it confused with the pinto .

so... anything that comes off the top of your heas is not reliable information... a joke?
I would have to agree that it would seem to be so after seeing a lot of your posts.

Don't discourage the boy too much Lazs, this board needs the comic relief.
