Title: Motorcycle paint scheme
Post by: Doberman on February 23, 2004, 02:08:13 AM
My CBR900RR was stolen last summer, so I've gotten around to refreshing my Katana and I'm finally gonna give it the paint job that I've been planning for years.

Here's a Photochopped concept pic that I threw together.  What'dya think?  Can ya tell what the kill markings are?

Thought I had done a pic with a few more added details, but i can't find it.  Might be on the laptop somewhere.  I think I'm gonna put a touch of red on the front fender to represent the red spinner that's often seen on tiger mouthed planes.  Will probably put the bikes model number (GSX600F) in roughly the same position as it is stock and make 'em look like tail numbers.  Would sorta like to add the AVG's Chinese markings, but can't really find anywhere that I like the placement.  I'd really like some sorta gun ports with maybe a little streaking, but I'm not sure where.  Possibly on the tips of the mirrors, or right around where the front turn signals are.  Gonna put my name and callsign somewhere but I haven't made a decision yet.   Possibly on the tank in front of the Flying Tigers symbol.  I think I need a few maintenance stencils as well.  "Danger Hot Exhaust" or something. :)

I've already gotten rid of that big ugly rear fender / liscense plate / turn signal assembly on the back of mine.  Just the plate tucked up underneath the tail and a pair of small lights.

The wheels on my bike now are blue.  I sorta like the gold ones on this pic.  Maybe a silver/steel look?  I'll probably just end up painting them black.

My 900RR was the greatest bike ever, but I've been wanting to get this done forever and know it's gonna be a knockout when it's done.  I'll post some finished product pics hopefully pretty soon.

I think desert camo would look better,
But if you like it, go with it.

The sharks mouth needs to go higher to allign with the headlight. The mirrors can be painted as eyes.

:p

keep your seat black.

i saw a harley painted up with a p51 checker tail theme, it was awesome. had lots of airbrushing detail, rivets, lines, etc etc....

might consider adding details with some airbrushing rather than just a camo theme....it would make more sense, since you are going after the flying tiger theme.

No way.  I've seen a Ninja with a scheme sorta like that.  Looked like crap.  Everything all bunched up on the top.

The lower fairing on the Katana is perfectly formed to fit the mouth.

Hmmmmmm, seat black?  I'll hafta change the color this evening and see what I think.

This is just a very rough draft.  :)  All of the details are gonna be airbrushed on, including the Flying Tiger logo that's on the tank.

Folks, lets keep in mind that this is not the finished bike.  This is just something I whipped up in Photoshop to start laying out the details.  Haven't decided on the exact pattern for the camo yet or placement of some of the details.  It's not gonna look like it was thrown together with a spray can when it's done.

Suntracker, I'll probably try another with a desert scheme as well to see if I like it.  My intuition says that I'm gonna end up sticking with these colors though.  This is sorta based offa the one on the cover of "Warbird History: P-40 Warhawk" by Frederick Johnsen.

Straffo, the plane is a Saab of some sort?  Very nice. :)

the reason why i say keep the seat black, is #1 to save you time/effort/money on recovering with a olive or green color to match the paint. #2 it would just look normal to have the seat there as it was, vs. something new...unless of course you know or are having the seat redone to match, then go for it!! can't wait to see it!

i agree about having the sharkmouth on the lower cowl....

The seat's blue right now.  So it's gotta be recovered in some color anyways.  Black might give it a sorta cockpit look though when viewed as a part of the whole.  It's an interesting idea.
