does anyone have data on the dispersion cone of the mk 108 cannon? it seems to me that it is much too high for a nose mounted weapon that would not be affected by wing flex etcera.
i am not saying it is incorrect, i dont have any data on it. But i would just like to know where the info that makes its dispersion so great comes from.

short barrel big round low velocity?
turbulence?
hehe i dunno

Guess at least barrel was quite long; We have a DB-605 in museum and it's not the shortest engine I've seen (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Actually the barrel on the Mk108 30mm cannon is quite short.
But realize that there is a difference between a barrel and a blast tube.

just a few quoted ranges of LW guns taken from 'the luftaffe fighter force''view from the cockpit' by adolf galland
'the me.109 was at this time(1942-43) armed with only 1 mg151(20mm) and 2 x mg 17 (7.92 mm).the ballistics of these weapons did not permit effective fire at ranges greater than 500-600 yards'
there is then list of guns
MG 17 7.9mm 200 metres effective range
MG 81 7.9mm 200 "
MG 131 13mm 400 "
MG 151 15mm 600 "
MG 151/20 20mm 400 "
MGFF 20mm 400 "
MK 103 30mm 800 "
MK 108 30mm 400 "
BK 5 50mm 800 "
as you can see the mk 108 does appear to have a substantialy lower effective range but unfortunately it doesnt explain why so the shorter barrel etc mentioned by the other posts may wll be the cause.
hope this helps a bit...now GIVE US BK 5 HTC (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

i have also noticed the unusual dispersion in the 30 mm version of the 109 what your askin zig if i have it right ,is why does it shoot like a shot gun and why is it almost imposible to hit anything past 150 yds,
not tryin to offend anyone but is there a historical precident to indicate that it was so bad at accuracy and velocity ( it seems to be bout 1/3 slower than german 20 mm and that is piss poor) the apperent slow speed and observed large amount really take away from the beutiful squeak. any comments apprecited
and again i dont know just askin she would be mean if i could get the lead down.
ps how much more did 30 mm weigh than 20 mm in 109 and will we ever have an option to delete the cowel guns?
thanks
