Why is it every ricer with a fart can muffler is always gunning the throttle? Like in parking lots and stuff?
Are they trying to sound like a Drag car with a huge cam? You know what I mean say like an old 70 chevelle, with a bigblock and a big cam so it barely idles, so you have to gun it a bit to get it moving and keep it running?
They are doing this cause this is the in way to drive you winged dented honduh civic? Or did they do something to make it have not low end driveability?
I have noticed this much more of late, cause I have like 4 ricers sharing an apartment right above mine, so I get to here there crappy cars all the godamn time.
-
Because they can?
Aircraft, Weapons, and Photography are my things, not Cars

I have no damn idea, but i do know what your saying, as most of you have seen my car i do get alot of this. If im sitting at a stop light i will get this Honda that will start revving his engine with that fart can in the back. It's damn terribly annoying since i can wipe the floor with him, but im not into street racing so i always give em a fliar to join me at a local track we have here. Sadly nobody ever shows up..
So to answer your question partly, i think its a misconception most Honda drivers have, the Louder it is, then the Faster it probebly goes!
-
With smaller engines, most of the usable power is higher in the revs. A V8 might be able to smoke the tires at 1500 RPM, but a 4 cylinder car might need to start at 4-5k to have good acceleration.
If they're revving right before they go (eg, before they engage their clutch), it's to have a better holeshot. If they're revving it randomly like a Harley (as if to keep it from stalling), then they are just idiots.

The same reason my generation used to jack cars up beyond the limit of leaf springs, put M50 tires on a 69 Charger with a 318 engine, and glass pack pipes.

LOL you to huh.
I had my 67 mustang jacked once so hi that when you hit the brakes it would almost swap ends with ya.
-
My grandfather was a rum runner and at least the jacked up back has a purpose. It was done that way because when the car was loaded with rum it set normal, this was done so that police could not tell that the car was loaded with rum. It was a style that was started becauce of the rum runners in the 20's and it is still going on today.
As for "hey ya dumbas*, lets stick a coffe can on our tail pipes, because we wana look like f*in goofs, and never get laid" has no purpose at all
I'm a 91 Camaro owner with a 350 big block .......

They want to hear their fart can. Somewhere between the tailpipe and the ricer's ear, the song of the fart can changes from a flatulent roar to a mellifluous burble.
A lot of them just run crappy because these guys add parts without knowing what they are doing and end up with fuel or ignition maps that don't match the other upgrades.
But some of them do have cams like the one you describe. A 400 whp Civic is going to have a lumpy idle. Those are super-rare, but they are out there.
In my case you will hear some revving because I do heel-toe double declutch downshifts most of the time, and because my car is really underpowered unless I get enough revs to make boost when coming off the line.
-
you asking about cars like this:

-
Funked,
I doubt these *******es have new cams.
I have heard them sit and idle and there is no lumpyness, smooth as a typical honda econo box.
I have respect for the guys who can make these things go fast, hell I work with a guy who did a home made turbo setup. Bought all the parts from Vic hubard! lol. He took me for a ride in his honda and it was pretty quick...
But these jokers are all about cheap kragin crome and bull****....
-
Those ones are just tards who like to sniff their own farts.
-
Its the sound of performance, thats why.
Many of these kids have a rear mounted grapefruit thrower (thats a muffler) because it 'sounds good' and frees up 'hella horsepower.'
99 out of 100 dont even know what a cam does.
999 out of 1000 dont know what a cabourated engine sounds like either.
Its a safe bet they arent trying to imitate anything specific - aside from some of the fake blow off valve noise makers Ive seen.
Its loud, obnixious, and its a great way to show everyone during your morning drive to school how much of a hardass you really are.
I know this because my area is second only to LA county, as far as Im concerned, in ricers per capita. And I mean bad ricers... the duct tape, unpainted, maybe primed if they are lucky with 50 stickers for products they dont have kind of ricers.
The kind of ricers that pull up to a real sports car and dont even have the good sense to stop gunning their noisemaker so they can be heard 'talking smack.'
Spot Jenny from 4th period english class on the way to school? 'Hells yeah.' Give her some of that 80 decible bumble bee loving. BUUZZZZZ BUUUZZZZ BUUUUUUUUUZZZZZZ!!! Maybe Ill even get to second base tonight... awwwwww yeah! Yo Dawg... lets hit up Mickey D's (Ba da ba ba baaaa, Im lovin' it) Word, now lets go show that Z06 some VTEC POWA!
-
Friend had a Ford Escort MkI with 1700cc "Kent"; idle was ~1500rpm (still "shaky") but it did run pretty fast with enough rpms :)
-
Gotta get in on this one.
I pull up to a traffic light and end up beside a Honduh with a huge and I mean huge {covered the entire back glass} NOS sticker. It is the middle of summer and he and I both have our windows down so I asked him just out of curiosity what size shot he is running. The answer I recieved still stupifies me. At first he didn't now know what I was talking about and I got the ever present blank stare of bewilderment. So I break it down to his level..."Hey bruh, how much nawwwws are you spraying?" He replied " Oh that...I don't spray it I pour it into my gas tank." He uses the NOS Octane booster from Auto Zone of some other chain parts store that has the big display's when you come in the door for all the Ricer accesories. I know it was rude of me to do it but I could not help but laugh in this guys face.
Couple of sites to check if you ever get bored at work.
anti-rice.com
ricecop.com
Have a pleasent and rice free day.
Robert
P.S. Every sticker adds 5 H.P.
-
Yeah I need some big NAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW WWWWWWS stickers.
-
the ricers do not rev their little motors at me at stops signs or lights when they pull next to either of my cars. My Healey has a very old school solid lifter cam and 11.5 to one slugs with a double pumper 750 and single plane. I need to "blip" the throttle to clear the plugs occassionally. The flowmasters dump to the side and in front of the rear wheels... If I did much more than blip the throttle I would scortch the paint on the guys car.
even a blip causes the car to torque over pretty well.
My elky is a 468 with milder cam headers into sonic turbos. 21/2" all the way out. 468 cubes make a nice lumpy idle. the 850 qjet edelbrock is "crisp".. a blip is "responsive". I will race if it is safe enough. Not a lot of takers except, oddly... on the freeway. A big block with a 6 speed and 3.31 gears is not a good thing to challenge with a ricer. No matter what the guy who sold you the turbo said.

Just remember kids...
Vinyl adds horsepower.
-
yep... my elky has a brand new (nos) stock vinyl roof and my Healey has a vinyl tonneu cover.
lazs
-
LOL Laz your Elky is a bad bellybutton car!
Old muscle are still the only things that catch my eye... well ocasionaly a blazer will too.
I miss having a GTO, but the last one I owned was a pain in the ass, I think when I get around to getting another I will find one that needs work and not a nice one... lol.
-
be sure to get the vinyl roof if you want real HP.
lazs
-
Amatures.... Lazs... you wont gain the big ponies without a windshield banner that reads "ELKINATOR"
-
Heh...I saw a Toyota Camry (yes I said Camry) the other day that had a Superbird-sized wing mounted on the trunk and a fire extinguisher mounted on the A pillar. I pointed and laughed and I don't think he appreciated it.
-
where can I get one sour? Do you know where I can get carbon fiber panels to put all over the interior? They are light I hear so will only add a few pounds. That and painting my steering wheel red should add enough HP to compete.

You need neon lites under the car to be really fast now a days...
:)
-
Raubvogel
One of the *******es on my complex that does the anoying throttle thing has a camery.... with a fart can and stickers and those lame bellybutton euro taillights lol.... with stock steel wheels with the cheesy toyota hubcaps....
Oh and dents. Lots of dents.
-
If they want to make there cars sound like that and save money, why don't they just rip the damn muffler off?
I really hate it when I'm trying to watch tv at night and I hear on of those spastic bumblebees zip down the street.
-
Lazs should get a "Powered by Honda" winshield sticker.
-

-
when did 350 chevy's become "Big blocks" lol
-
unless it is a destroked big block... A 350 chevy is a small block.
Do two tone seats and dash painted like exterior add much HP? I was wondering if it was worth the expense? How bout those wings? they add much hp at freeway speeds? Elky has room for a really really really big wing if it does.
lazs
-
He's probably got the 350 TPI motor, definitely a small block.
-
I fill my car up once a month. It goes vroom, sometimes, and it runs nice and silent.
-
Your pedal car doesn't count Froggy.
-
Oh yeah Laz
The wing will add, 50Hp and 75 torque!
If you get the deluxe ajustable aluminum one, it adds 10% more!
You could toss that crappy cheby V8 and out in one of the super cool toyota V8s from a Tundra!
-
but what about pedal planes ???
-
I heard toyota is building a chevy small block clone for nascar racing.
no kidding.

-
OOps....lol sorry didn't even notice i had posted that.....I had just gotten off the phone with a friend talking about a 502 big block he is working on and was still thinking about it when I did that post.:(
and yah its the 350 TPI.....don't ask me all the performance data on it...I get it and all just not insterested in it.....I'm not a engine person....I worked in a body shop for about 2yrs so i am defenatly a body repairman
-
Laz that can not be true!!!
The Japanese do everything better then we do, they would never copy a US motor!!
HonDAH makes the best motors EvAr!!! VTEC baby!!
I tried putting an aluminum wing on my Yukon, but it kept getting knocked off on over passes :(

Roscoroo
SHHHHH
I am trying to catch a hundalovingfish
The best bait is to talk smack about american cars, they will chime in and I can hook them!
I personaly will NEVER own a hondah or a toyota.....
Hondahs are ok cars, Toyotas in my personal exsperiance are ****, over rated crap. You paying twice what the car is worth for the toyota stickers.
-
Ah ricers! They crack me up every time. I pulled up next to one last summer at the light. He had the fart can, the stickers, etc., so I asked him if his car was fast. He actually said no(and he wasn't lying as I smoked him in my Grand Prix GTP.
I used to have a 65' Impala SS 409 and that thing was all about torque. Nothing beats the sound of a big block with 400+ hp.
:aok

Um yeah because the NASCAR rules don't allow anything but small block clones and live rear axles and other stone age technology. If they actually allowed modern race cars in NASCAR, Toyota would eat the big 3 for breakfast.
-
Man the 409 was awsome!
I grew up hearing about how my dad and his budy while they where in the navy cruised his 63 409 Impala, it was a dual qaud X race car! lol.
Rare now a days, the low rider crowd has grabbed up all the cool old full size cars and ruined them.
-
Why would you need indipendent reas suspension on a car that drives in a big oval all the time?
:D
Bah toyotas still suck, just ask my mom how good her camery has been. Ask about all the letters to toyota corperate to get the to honor their ****ty waranty..
