How many of you are blatant homophobes?
Just a yay or nay poll. If the AH BBS had the polling system, it wouldn't be necessary to hear opinions. Just want to see what the general opinion is.
-
I often feel uncomfortable around gay people.
But I am trying to be more accepting.
-
The more flamboyant ones are hilarious. It's pretty hard not to make fun of them. So count me in.
-
unlike deep water....
im not scared of them
i am however extreemly intolerant of their lifestyle
-
I have no problems with gays.. as long as I do not have to hear about their sex lives.
Course, I do not want to hear about any of my friends sex lives.
I think the idea of Gay sex is revolting.... but that does not make me a homophobe.

ditto that also for me

If I was homophobic, I would be half a hypocrite, I am a Bisexual
-
Not the least bit afraid. I've been hit on a few times, but every single time, stating that I'm hetero and uninterested was enough.
Gays are harmless.
-
I don't like being nekkid with them in tight spaces.

Homophobia? No. I don't run in fear everytime I see a fruit.
However, they push my anger button so much...
-
I should add, lesbians are great. I fully support CCFL.
-
No one I hang out with is gay, but occasionally someone will bring along a gay guy and we'll all go to a bar. I watch what I say for the first 6 or 7 beers, then I forget their gay and sometimes unintentionally insult them.
Gay guys are great in areas where a certain percentage of the population is a transexual... they can spot those right off the gun and save you a lot of pain and remorse.

Nothing against gays here.
I had a roommate my freshman year of college who came out halfway through the year. Took some getting used to, but I think I'm a better person for the experience - especially since I knew him both "before" and "after" he was gay.
And no, he never hit on me. :)
-
Homoginized .... pasturized .... *ShruG* .... ain't they both the same? Wish the price would drop back down.

Homophobe question...
If you went camping with a friend and the next morning when you woke up your butt hurt, would you say anything, or be too embarrased and just keep quiet?

Alright, thanks, just wanted to get a general feel for the stance. I was wondering about that ban on gay marriage (which we wont get into) and was thinking what people thought about gays alone.
I'm with the whole "don't ask, don't tell" mindset. Go ahead and be happy and gay, just don't let me know about it.
-
Strange question but I'll answer. I dont have any problems with gay people at all. I think having an intolerence to something means that that individual can have an intolerence to something else or anything else. Bigotry is an individuals characteristic and part of his personality makeup and is solidified with his own maturity. Bigotry is not inherited but it can be learned or influenced in society or social groups. Some would says its a form of weakness derived from unresolved emotions or reflections of ones own outlook due to ignorance and driven by anger. I guess Im just a very tolerant person but Im no pushover either.

I would keep quiet while I dismembered him.

Coming from a relatively small town and moving to San Francisco I can say I had a little bit of a culture shock. The idea of homosexuality has never been an issue for me. Seeing it walking down the street took a little getting used to.
I've had many gay friends since then and I can safely say after 5 years in San Francisco not much shocks me anymore. :)
Anyone who's been to the Folsom Street Fair can say that I'm sure. :)
-
I only have a problem with them is if I see public displays of affection. I swear I nearly puked when I saw two guys kiss in public once. It was quite disturbing...still gives me shudders.
-
Well I dont know I grew up during a time when the issue of gays were on the media alot. Perhaps that has influenced me to be tolerant towards it.
-

I don't have a concern one way or another in regards to gays. What I don’t like about them, as a group, are the activists. These are ones who truly define themselves by their sexual preference. Like any group “with a cause” I really don’t care for the ones who wear their cause on their sleeve. The ones that all but dare you to say something. They set themselves up to be "oppressed" so they can use the reactions toward them to justify their obnoxious behavior (not sexual behavior).
The one thing that is missing from the olden days is modesty. It used to be bad manners to deliberately cause discomfort to others. Now it’s a tool to gain attention and reaction.
Whether you are gay, straight, left wing reactionary or right wing kook; whatever your cause if you chose to express it in such a way as to demand attention then you get what you deserve.

my good friend in the service was a lesbian, i ended up romming with her for about 4 months, smack in the middle of the gay district of Jacksonville. Initially i was tad apprehensive but it quickly went away. I found most gay people to be pleasant and very self aware around straight folks, whom they can usually tell really quickly :)
I ended up hanging out with her and her group in all sorts of bars, some of which were gay. Never had a single problem.
As far as I'm conserned they are adults and are allowed to puruit their happiness just as much as I am. While idea of male to male sex might be revolting to me, so is eating brocolli and nobody is trying to ban THAT...
-
I am not sexually attracted to any man or there body parts, other then my own right hand...
I am sexually attracted only to good looking females of my age or a tad bit older..
And I am not a Homophobe.
Talk about a hook with no barb  .

funny i never heard about a ban on the lifestyle of homosexuality being on the table of possible laws.
<-- not getting into the other thing, i want to continue posting here.

Gays are gay. And while this can make them intense, it usually doesn't make them awesome or sweet.
They can, however, be big, or, if you will, large.

Navy FD?
I currently live in Jacksonville. When I first moved here some years ago I was out with a friend and my brother. It was late and I was pretty drunk and they pulled a prank on me.
We pulled up to Bo's Coral Reef (gay bar in Jax Beach) and Jason my friend asked me to run inside and grab a pack of matches. Like a dolt I did and they sped off.
As I got inside and looked around I about burst into laughter and ran back out to tell umm what kind of place this was. They were gone. I was left standing on the street corner next to a gay bar not knowing where the heck I was.
Cars were driving by honking and folks were yelling at me. I didn’t know whether to go inside or wait on the corner to get gay bashed. I ended up walking up to Third Street. I was traumatized after the abuse I got walking the 2 blocks.
The bastards picked me up 15 min later. They had went and ate. I still hate them for that.
-
Not agreeing with a homosexual lifestyle and not wanting to be surrounded by them does not mean youre a homophobe.
It means you dont agree with their lifestyle and do not want to be surrounded by them.

sry to hear...
i actually was chased (with the intenion of kicking my arse) by about 10 gays.
this was 1992 in college.
they were at the student union @ universtiy of wisconsin milwaukee having a gay pride rally. the "gay student union" was the orginizer (like the other smaller groups)
they were handing out flyers to everyone who walked by and spewing some really vile stuff (by my standards). they were insisting Jesus and the 12 disciples had "orgies" and openly had "relations".
they said the bible has been modified to hide this, and that gays were the real christians. or some cht like that. needless to say i mad some comments back to them being the only one who seemed to stand up to their acusations.
(as there was no "christian student union" allowed.. that might offend and exclude some students)
books were thrown at me, i said some very off color remarks (by now i was reeeeeaaaaly po'd) and they started to try and tackle ma. i ran out the door and about 10 of them chased me yelling and encouraging others to join in "getting the bigot/skinhead and showing him what intolerance is"
i had hair down past the middle of my back at the time lol.
i made it to my car about 2 blocks away and squeeled out of there as fast as i have ever driven.
i didnt go back to school for a month.
i "heard" that they got repermanded by the administration for being beligerent during the rally (i was not the only one who got into words with them... just the only one who said things very very bad to them).
part the still po's me is they were bastardizing my religion, and morals. kind of like if i took a muslim turban and wiped my arse with it. yet that was ok for them to do i guess. IMHO my verbal (non physical) reactions were perfectly ok. i never raiased a hand to them.
you all probably look down on me for my reaction in the situation, but i dont care. i would do it again.

***I've known since 3rd grade that I was interested in females, and just females. I was clearly born that way, and gays don't choose to be gay any more than I chose to be straight.
***I've always been comfortable around gays and lesbians and count many among my friends and acquaintances. I've had great times at some gay Christmas parties in which the gays and lesbians outnumbered the straights maybe 80 to 5.
***The biggest homophobes I have ever known seemed to be repressed homosexuals, especially if they had been brain-washed by religion. And I wasn't the only person who felt that way about them.
***At a female friend's summer party during college this gay guy who looked like John Lennon kept hitting on me while I was really drunk. He was probably rather drunk, too. I kept telling "No, I'm very straight", but he was persistant like any guy would be--straight or gay--and I had to laugh to know what it's like for uninterested females to have to deal with drunk guys hitting on them. Guys are sooooo clueless sometimes.
***When it comes to gay rights, well "liberty and justice for all" kind of sums it up. After all, isn't repect a 2-way street? Why should someone respect your rights when you don't respect others rights?

One of my girlfriends, I was her first. But she went to Mt. Holyoak and discovered women. We still bang'd on occasion, i.e. vacations, but its impossible to compete if you are in a single sex enviroment and facing that kind of onslought. She's currently only with chics now - but i figure give it a little time, she'll switch back to the ****.

I don't think finding homosexual sex revolting makes you homophobic. I think it makes you heterosexual.
But understand that that revoltion you have is how homosexuals feel about heterosexual sex.
I think bi's might have it best in some ways because they don't find either revolting. So like, twice the action!
-
Finding homosexual sex revolting does not make you homophobic. Wanting to beat them up, humiliate them, ridicule them, write laws forbiding them does.

Not at all. If two consenting adults choose to have a relationship, it doesn't bother me one bit regardless of the sexes involved.
I shouldn't have a say in their relationship and they shouldn't have a say in my relationship. No one's business but their own.

sociopaths do not empathize... allmost all the rest of us do. If you are not a sociopath then you would not be normal if you were not "homophobic".... uncomfortable, around gays of your own sex. We are not so uncomfortable around gays of the oppossite sex (lesbians) for these exact reasons.
It's no big deal but you/we have every right to have this normal, instinctive reaction. What you do about it is what matters.

No, see that dont make you homophobic either - that makes you a studmuffin basher - probably a noodle issue.
Homophobic = Afraid of homo's.
Its all well and good to be for gay rights and all that ****, but please stop making up terms that sound like diseases to label the normal 98% of the population as abnormal.
Im sure that homosexuality is just as revolting to me as heterosexuality is to the vconfused portion of the population.
Does that make them Hertrophobic? No. It makes them gay - whether or not thats a bad thing is up to the individual.

I have a buddy, a very liberal Buddy, who when everyone meets him for the first time they think he is gay.
As far as I know he is not, and he has had some hot girl friends. He may go both ways, but I do not have conversations with him about his sex life.
When he came home from coledge he was very much into Gay rights and womens rights, etc. Pretty much all the liberal bull**** from the 60s that is mostly irelevent now...
So with a strait face one time I said "there is no such thing as a lesbian, there are just two types of women, Chicks that can score a man, and nasty old hags, er I mean lesbians, hell just look at andrea dworkin(rabid anti man lezbian activist?, He digs on her books, I read parts of one and she is a nut job supreme.)
I thought he was going to have a Seizure or something.... It is so easy to push a liberals buttons, lol. They can be soooooo intolerant of others views.
Now I do not believe what I just typed, well everything bvut the andrea dworking ****, she is a loon. But it is fun to **** with someone now and again..... This was revenge for our conversation on comunism.

My sister in law is a lesbian, I have worked with gays (one died of AIDS) and there are gays in my social circle. If you are around them enough, you see that they are human beings just like the rest of us. They have feelings, they are giving (or selfish) considerate (or rude), hurting or happy. I also came to the realization that most of the problems they face in society are not internal as a result of their orientation, but are the result of having to live as a second class citizen in society.
I have no doubt that the gay people I know would choose to be straight in a heartbeat if they could make that choice. Being abandoned by their immediate family, abused at work, yelled at as they walk down the street, in fear of assault are all everyday realities for homosexuals. That also explains some of their activisism (What did I ever do to you?/Why the hell should I put up with this **** in America?), though the ones I know (knew) were pretty much personally uninvolved with any issue, just like the rest of Americans.
I also used to be "revolted" by the thought of two men having sex myself, but recently I turned a corner and found that the cringe turned to a chuckle -- "What ever floats your boat... " The thought of actually engaging in that myself is still revolting, but I no longer feel particularly revolted by others engaging in homosexual practices.
