For a little while now, I've been wondering if there's a correlation between the amount of time spent posting to this BBS, and the quality of fun while playing AH.
I've tried an experiment on myself in the past week. I have posted here much less than I normally do, yet I have played AH more than I normally do(it helped that the wife & child were visiting relatives).
What I'm finding is that the less I post here, the more I actually enjoy the game that is AH. I don't have the angry arguments about HO's and Dweeb rides swimming in my head while I play now.
Heck, I got killed by BigJim the other night during Vadr's Check Six event, and not only did I enjoy it, but I also saluted him on CH 1, too. That's something that I would definately not do on this BBS, considering our relationship of late.
Does anyone feel the same way? Does arguing and posting here on the AH BBS create more stress or acrimony than it's worth?
That begs the question----Are we using this BBS for the purpose intended, or are we just using it as a place to slam one another?
I've also wondered about what Pyro and HT and the rest of HTC thinks about the people who post here on a regular basis. I can't prove it, but I have a hunch that they take people who post here much less seriously than they do people who don't post here at all. Kind of like the way I tune my wife out when she talks about the same thing over and over again! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/tongue.gif)

I think you are wrong, banana.
Lots of people are so crazy about the AH that they can't keep away from it even when they can't play. So they hang around on this board from their offices, college computers, etc.
Most people here post in addition to playing, not instead of it.

Kill the BBS for a week, see what happens. Bet dollars to donuts it will become a lot more civilized. Ever noticed how threads start out as questions or comments that aren't negative then someone runs along "HO DWEEB SPITLOSER -1C HO DWEEB BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH" and well it just degenerates from there.

This BBS is also an outlet for some that can't fly all the time. Afterall.. the firewall at work allows web brousing, but not much else (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

I have dual T3s at work DJ. Firewall don't let me play AH. I can browse the internet though and download games then burn them onto a CD! <sticks out tongue at everyone>
Oh oh, did I mention I have a PIII 500 with a Diamond Stealth ViperII at work? <sticks out tongue again> hehehe

1.5 GB of pc-100 ram? Some day they may let you put that in something Wulfie. I do know that the ammount of RAM located in this building puts that to shame (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
Hell.. the ammount of ram located within 20 feet of my office puts that to shame (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
So.. keep your "its not the speed of the computer... its the size of the RAM" arguments to yourself. Speed does matter... any married guy can tell you that (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Oh no it's an AK pissing contest. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
I don't think so banana.
There are alot of guys in here that I don't agree with and there are even some that I don't like at all but when it comes to flying in the arena I've found that no matter who you are if you are on my side and you need help I'll be there.
I try not to let opinions on the BBS ruin my game play.
Piss me off in the arena and I'll show you the films I take of me watching you die. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
Hell I may even send screen shots to your next of kin. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/tongue.gif)

You may have something there...
I spent 15 years in broadcasting, and found that the more I worked on newscasts, the more I thought society was full of sum. I lost sight of the fact that most people are not scum.
I now only get the saturday paper, and never watch the news.
As they say.. the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
BUT.. not all posts here are rant,whine,squeak... thank god !

LOL! Its not full of scum, but it has more than its fair share. Why'd it take so long ot realize that (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Did you notice that as you gained experience, you were exposed to higher levels of management... and higher levels of scum?

Hi all,
I think that reading the boards doesn't make flying less enjoyable. But the types of posts can give you a bad feeling about the people sharing your airspace in the game.
To often we see the board as a place to air grivences with the game or people in it. Now that is not necessarily a bad thing. It makes it easy for HTC to get a look at all the problems either real or percieved their customers are having.
But(You knew there was a "but" coming) does reading the latest rant about the F4u cannons or HO dweebs make you yearn to log into the arena for a couple of sorties? No! What we should all try to do is for every post we write about something that we think needs to be addressed by HTC, we write one about a good experiance we had in an event or just about a good sortie in the arena or an AAR for a squad nite. Something that will fuel the fire both for the author and the others that read the boards.
The problem is not the boards, but the content that can get you down, so write an "up" thread every now and again. I would but I suck so all my stories would just make ya wanna cry (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Other then knowing Luftwobble planes are the only plane I should fly, and only lowlife, scum-sucking dweebs like "Jig" fly anything other then Luftwobble planes...
naw the message board has had no impact on my enjoyment of the game...

If you get huffy easily, then stay away from the BB.
If it makes you laugh, then check it out often.
We are all different.

Your opinion of those who post here implies that they are all whiners or complainers.
I've found valuable information on this BBS concerning tactics, strategy, bombing techniques, maneuvers, historical information, and on and on.
Actually, there are a great bunch of guys posting on this BBS.
It all depends on what you're looking for when you come to the BBS. Don't just stay away. Instead, arrive with the idea that you're going to enjoy the posts, and ignore the obvious complainer type posts.
Keep up the good posts guys. I enjoy reading your inputs.

banana,
For me it's a glass is half full or half empty kind of question or just a matter of persepective. You have to look in this forum for the gemstones amongst the dross as the O'Club and Help forums have the streets literaly paved with gold, (the O'club is just too funny to read at times).
In this forum anything can be an issue which, due to the lack of facial expressions or misinterpretation, can easily boil into a flame war, (or a my computer has a bigger RAM than your 'puter contest =)
The same thing happens in an email news group at my work. Over 150 "interested", (read "some appear to have time on their hands"), people subscribe to a computer-support email list and for 95% of the time it's drivel interspersed with one or two genuine enquires, (a good example of drivel was a typo of the phrase "world wipe web" which generated a dozen toilet paper related jokes). I looked at the original message, laughed at the mistake and answered privately with a solution to the real problem. The "wits" who corrected the spelling I had little time for anyway and just deleted their replies. If you can put up with the drivel the one gem that arrives each fortnight conterbalances the rest.
But I digress. If the community was more solution oriented then things would look a lot better in this forum. However we are a community and as such there are always people who believe their point of view is better than the rest, (I know mine is better than average <joke> =). The way we express that point of view will not please everyone and lead to disagreement. However there is occasionally a good point raised which we have to consider rather than just flame down.
[flame retardent coat on] Macboy's comments about porting the game to Apple computers is a problem for which there is no current solution. I feel bad that our Mac bretheren are missing out on the fun we have here but since I don't have any solution to contribute I didn't get involved. Maybe that's what we as an online community need to do more, just stand back and let the flames die naturally when we can't find an extinguisher instead of attempting to smother the fire with dynamite and napalm.
Maybe it's just that simple. Didn't we get told as children "If you haven't got anything nice to say, don't say anything".

As I said before:
"Squeaky wheel gets the grease"
Everyone notices the bad stuff because it annoys.(or makes you laugh)
But most posts are great, helpful, & fun.
(At least the ones I want to read)
