ANCHORAGE--A Labrador retriever has been found alive on an isolated cove of a Southeast Alaska island more than a month after its owner was given up for dead when his boat sank in rough seas.

Cool story.  Considering this dog is named "Brick", I wonder what names the deceased gave his other pets.

Not totally related here, but still very neat.

A story ran in the paper a couple of days ago about a girl here in Wisconsin that was saved by her labs...

She was up in the Chequamegon National Forest and somehow managed to roll her SUV.  She got stuffed thru one of the windows and had broken ribs, head trauma, the works.  Her 3 labs survived and got out of the SUV.  One of them stayed with her, the other two, ran to a house, scratched at the door until a man answered.  The two labs, then grabbed his shirt and led him to the accident.   She survived and now her dogs have been nominated for some dog hall of fame thingy.

Labs are the best.  See my avatar... Clyde :D

Great story Modas, but everyone knows it was a Collie that taught the labs how to go get help.  :D

Life expectancy in those waters this time of the year is about 5 minutes.  A lot of people lose a lot of motor skill in just a minute or two.  Dogs, on the other hand, are often a lot tougher.

I had a Lab for about 6 months.... or should I say that I had a girlfriend living with me for 6 months who had a Lab.... ;)

Nice dog, very friendly.  But kinda dopey and the darned thing shed enough fur every day to kill a thousand cats with furballs.

You could literally vacuum the carpet, and an hour later there would be a solid layer of white fur on it.

I'm a boxer type myself !  Smarter, less maintenance, and way better on the allergies.

Wouldn't have any other dog. Smart as a whip, totally devoted and simply a joy to have around.

Not to mention a fine, fine hunting companion.

My chocolate lab is the best dog I've ever had. Damn thing's like a shadow, can't even go to the bathroom without him following me and laying outside the door until I get done. Very loyal, not as smart as my Border Collie, but that's a good thing sometimes.

As much as I love Labs (they are my favorite), sometimes you just can't be a rescued mutt

1/2 Aussie Shepard and 1/2 (we think) Siberian Huskey.

I've always been partial to hounds, just love their temperment. For a practical working dog, you can't beat the Blue Heeler (Austrailian Cattle Dog). One of the smartest dogs on the planet. If you remember the movie Mad Max, his dog was a Blue Heeler.

pugg if I were terminal my request to the Make-A-Wish foundation would to be to spend a day in the field with Toad and his Labs shooting Pheasants and Chuckars. Now THAT would be a great day.
