Title: Interesting thing I discovered
Post by: Blammo on February 27, 2004, 11:03:16 AM
The top 10 pilots so far for this tour have flown less than 50 hours total time (all vehicles, aircraft and boats).

Good rule: fly less=die less=rank higher.

note: not saying anything about the pilots, just an interesting observation.

That being said, I wonder if there is not a way to rate people with time weighing more in the mix.  I mean, I know that you are rank on "Kills per hour", but that does not weigh very heavily into the final ranking.

For instance, how about a minimum number of hours being flown before being ranked?

Just a thought.

ummm i would consider 50hrs a lot of flying time.

Edit- Just checked, Shawk is ranked 1 and has flown 123 hrs so far....you sure you looked at correct rankings?

Then why change it.   Perhaps you would like a rank for most time on award we could call it the "No Real life Award"

Just a thought  ;)

thrila: I looked at the following link: http://www.hitechcreations.com/cgi-bin/105score/105ranks.pl (http://www.hitechcreations.com/cgi-bin/105score/105ranks.pl)

Also, if I look up Shawk and you are correct, he shows an overall rank of 1st, but the page I linked to above says differently

Shane:  Followed your advice and it showed the same thing.  Cleared the cache and it showed me the same thing.  I track this page a lot and it seems to get updated on a regular basis.

ATC: No, I am not looking for "most time" to be the only factor.  And like many others who have a life and yet find time to play, I was just curoius about the time spent playing.

Look, guys...give me a break.  If the data I have on hand says one thing, and a different set of data says differently, what can you expect? :D

Hopefully the next thing you will discover that rank is meaningless and will eventually ruin your enjoyment of the game.  Just as ask all the rank/score potatos that whine and get pissed because they just died and it ruined their rank.  It also promotes timid flying.

Blammo, forget the refresh button, Shane has hit the bong once too much today.  Click on "Get ranks" again after page shows up, you'll get the correct info.

AKAK is correct in that the rankings are not a sure indicator of one's skills. As has been stated numerous times... plenty of the best pilots are ranked quite poorly.  However, his statement about promoting timidity is not completely accurate.  At least as far as fighter rank goes,  truly timid pilots will adversely affect their K/T which will in turn affect their rank is a like manner.

That's why they vulch as much as they can to keep their K/T up so they don't have to be aggressive and risk their K/D or K/S score/rank.  Not that I'm saying every top ranked pilot is timid, some clearly aren't but, for example the #1 fighter pilot this tour, clearly is.

i also said "or get ranks/scores"

i am correct in that the page defaults to the CT rankings.

and beet1e/urchin... (if you read this) some of the top 10 have less than 50 hrs total.

LOL AKAK. I have the worst luck at vulching.. there, I'm an expert at killshooting.  I'm also really good at finding a guy in an osti that can hit shiny ponies at 1.6 or better.  Nooooo, vulching much too dangerous for me. :)

Ironic that someone w/ a K/H of around 5 would call ANYONE timid.

3 of the top 10 have less than 50 hours.  I think 1 has less than 40, but I just did a quick check.

Honestly, you can probably get top 10 with less than 20 hours, depending on how "efficient" you are.

Just make sure you have a score in every sub-category of every category and you'll be ranked higher than 99.5% of the population.

So do I.  I usually end up not paying attention to my fuel state and never have enough to RTB.

Wasn't refering to you but rather the #1 ranked pilot.

As for my K/H, take a look at the time I fly.  Because of my work hours, I usually don't get on until 11pm or later.  At that time the arena usually has about 150 people in it and you really have to search for a kill and the length of most of my sorties last close to 45 minutes, if not longer.  Sometimes in that entire time I might only run into 4 or 5 enemy.

AKAK you're my bro... was yanking your chain buddy.  No excuses needed, I know how you fly.... bro.

Edit:  not that you were making excuses... I meant no explanation needed.

That would be fun.  The Spitfire I have troubles with is the Spitfire V so I could use all the practice I can get against it.

The arena's totally different flying "asia-pac" hours isn't it.  The big maps especially can make it hard to find a fight.

There's also a very large niki contingent to deal with (and they are very good  ) - but maybe that applies at other times as well.

Overall I kinda prefer the arena at that time , seems to be a bit less of the herd/pack mentality of other times I log on in prime time  in your evenings.

It does make finding a fight in the large maps hard at those hours but you can also find some good quality 1v1 fights more often than not.  And at those hours it gives me a chance to fly with guys like WingZero and Kyle, which are always good pilots to have around in a tight situation.

Hear here! I especially agree on this point. I don't give a flying F*** about rank/score and my flying style is anything but timid.

I use my P38 to do a smashing immitation of a mix-master when augering GVs! :lol

...maybe "weak" or "sucky" flying is more my style.:o

I notice the same stats aberration when doing stats for the volleyball team I coach.  This weekend my highest rated scorer happened to be the one that got the least amount of game time.  She got a spike kill on the weakside for sideout (rally score so she got a point), then served 3 quick aces, lost possession on another teammate's mistake, got pulled out for my defensive specialist to come in to receive serve, and never re-entered the game.  4 points, no errors to be deducted.  She was the only player to score 4 out of the 5 times she touched the ball.

I have my own rating system.

Using my system I am consitantly the top pilot.

First I count my Kills,  Then I throw out all my deaths.

Then I look at all other pilots and count thier deaths only.

Using this system Im always number one   ;)     Muhahahahaaa
