I was playing in the DA with jodgi recently. We tried various planes, always flying the same plane, same fuel load. Jodgi won all of these duels. Well that's fair enough - he's very good. When we took a closer look at what was happening, I began to realise that I simply could not make my plane turn the way jodgi was turning his. Turns out that jodgi has combat trim turned off, and I had it turned on. Just now, I had time for about 2 sorties in the MA, Using Steve's advice (he has the same Saitek Cyborg 3D) that I have) I mapped one of the buttons to Ctrl+X to turn off combat trim. With it off, I didn't notice any difference to required stick input for normal manoeuvres, but I was able to make more extreme moves - ie able to make more use of the full range of stick movement than before. Great! Looks like this is going to work for me.
There's a problem. I can't make combat trim stay turned off. I like to use the autopilot trim on speed and trim on angle functions. Clicking out of one of those settings always turns combat trim back on.
I tried turning off auto combat trim by unchecking the checkbox- see pic for setting that I refer to. It won't stay off. Every time I return to that window, the item checkbox is marked ON.
Any ideas? (I've looked at the HELP app, but am no wiser)

Are you unchecking the autotrim box befor you go to the hanger and get in the plane ???
Thats what i Do befor i fly 262's and it works everytime .
the rest of the time i just do the ctrl x thing to turn it off inflight as needed.

I've tried doing it before getting in the plane - but the box remains checked.

Beet, map that middle button to toggle combat trim on and off, then you don't have to worry about such things.
Edit: leave the autotrim box checked as it makes transit flights/cimbouts easier.
reedit: Geez sorry.. I jusr reread your post. Since you already have the "toggle combat trim" button mapped, I don't understand your problem really.(sorry!)
Combat trim is a nice convenience most of the time, IMO, but for those aggressive moves the stick arrangement we discussed earlier is quite nice.

Steve,
so every time you're about to make aggressive moves, you have to check the combat trim status, and click it off if necessary? Sounds like a royal pain... why won't that checkbox function work?

I wonder if your file for those settings is "Read only " and perhaps thats why it wont stay put ??? Just an idearrrrrr

No Beet, I don't worry about it much. No need to toggle trim off, by adjusting trim, it automatically turns combat trim off.
When I don't need/want the trim I've adjusted, I toggle it back on.
Edit: also, if you have any speed at all you will be able to tell if the plane is trimmed. :)
