Title: Gunsights?
Post by: Dennis on February 27, 2004, 05:53:02 PM
I'm having no luck changing gunsights in AH2beta
All I get is the default one in all planes.  I've set each plane up using the Gunsights" setup in "Preferences" ... select the sight, press the "set as" button ... but no joy.  I still find myself staring at the default sight when I get in the plane.

Thought it was because I was using Aero's "illuminated" sights (the ones with alpha masks), which I had just copied over from my AH folder ... so I whipped up a couple of plain test sights using the default.bmp in the folder as a template.  Still no joy, even though they have all the same parameters:
128 x 128, 256 color 8 bit, 96 dpi resolution ... exact same colors as the default.

I have no trouble setting up sights in AH1, so is something different about AH2?   I've seen screenies with custom sights, so I know it must be possible.

What am I overlooking?

btw i hope htc choose gunsight illumination like a ww2ol.
it would be more realistic...aero is thinking so too.

Upon further inspection, I discovered that I get my custom sight in the P51B ... but without the ability to adust the alpha (opacity).

All other planes I've tried still default to the default, even though the setup shows them with other sights selected.

Anyone having the same issue?

Related to gunsights, I think it'd be slightly more realistic if we had the option to turn the gunsight on and off.   Many combat stories I read talk about the pilot's routine before engaging in a dogfight and one of these items is always turning on the gunsight.

It might be helpful, too,  for Navy pilots to get a better view of the flight deck on final too, if they could switch the sight off.
