Title: drive mirror/copy programs needed

is there any free/ share ware that will actually copy/ mirror 1 drive to another and make the 2nd drive a bootable drive?

ive been looking im about to go out and buy Norton system tools just so i can get that dang Ghost part to do this!

im just wondering if you guys know of anything out there that will do the same thing......key part is 1st/original drive is a IDE drive and i want to copy it to s SATA (WD Raptor) drive and it must be compatable with win XP and NTFS file format....................... ...?

All suggestions welcome

I've done what you want to do with Norton Ghost. And it was very fast. :eek:

After the copy you can always convert the new disk to NTFS. You run the "Convert" command from a command prompt, and it takes less than 5 mins.

If one of the drives is a Maxtor, then you can use their Maxblast software. But you'll need to do some preparation work with the SATA driver or your disk won't boot

I use the western digital drive toolbox or whatever it is they call it.  Since you have at least one WD drive in there, it should work for you no problem.  Download the tools and it will create a bootable floppy that will let you create partitions, format the disk, create mirrors, check WD drives for errors, etc.

Orig the WD tools wont work for me.... thety have a windows version and a DOS version neither work, the windows version just gives me an error wheni try to open it up and the DOS boot disk just hangs when i try booting off it.


I went to a local computer shop and they had a copy of GHOST 2002 for 20$ so i bought it verses spending 70$$ at a best buy!

That's $20 more than I paid for Ghost 2003. :p
