Title: 20 days inside AH
Post by: chefer on December 13, 2001, 04:19:00 PM
Hi All,  :)

Congratulation for all AH team.

After a long time (1 year) out of cockpit, two weeks ago, without pretention, I download AH new version and tried play online.
With an old joystick (with HAT and one fire buttom of TM Topgun still broken) I enter main arena to get a better evaluation about AH flight model against real enemies and remember the greatfull time when I flew for VMF-58 Wildcards in WB2.
Although a machine upgrade is on the road, inside actual WB3's hardware requirements, will be impossible fly it with my 16 MB Voodoo and a PIII 450 on a reasonable manner.

Like a passionate Spitfire driver I choosed an suggestive initial Game ID -Spitix- and start my 2 free weeks.
(In an opportune moment i will talk and ask some guys about why they call all spit pilot a dweeb)  :)
This plane need more respect   I would like to write my AH spitfire impressions in the future, too.

AH is impressive. That's all I can say... and I didn't hesitate to formalize my account when free evaluation time expired.
From now on my definitive ID is -chefer-.

Like article posted by -Beet1e-(Scrmbl), 12-13-2001, I was curious to know how those guys put down easily so hard acks and PTs too!
But my big surprise about AH was the really whole of intelligent concepts adopted for the game.
Beside the point question or any diminutive comparison with WB, now I understand some reasons why the old friends -Fradim- and -Andres- never goes back.

Particular considerations!  :D
1- The "voiced" 6 call is outstanding.
2- The red icon for all cons and green for friends is a concept so simple than noone could think about. A great equality in combat.
3- Overall (more fast than WB) relative speed between planes or over the ground looks more real.
4- With some skill, a better pilot can defeat an inferior bandit with a superior plane or look for a path to disengage and survive for a new one opportunity.
5- Although some discos last week, the connection by modem looks more stable. Meet only a few warps boogies.
6- RPM engine control got to us the option to save fuel at a right hour or more quickly refresh engine after long WEP time. I''m right?
7- Winds !!!
8- Clouds!!! (Ohhhhh. My old Voodoo is burning)
9- Flight model looks well and we don't meet up dweebs shaking the stick and thinking he will survive in such a manner.

But I have some questions too:  :onfused:
1- All planes avaliable entirely in the course of TOD seem unreal to me. On SE we can fly allied X axis planes?
2- Because the more fast enviroment the lag is biggest than WB or it's only my impressions? Sometimes was needed to open fire with enemy under plane nose (belly side) to ping em. For the present i'll set tracers always on  :)
3- I'll need redesign my gunsight because it doesn't work here (the same reasons typed above) and practice deflection shot again. Any suggestions?

I miss the company of all my Wildcards squad friends of WB, mainly because all that I learned about CM they teach me.
Maybe soon (1 or 2 months) I will recover my practice and feel me well again inside my spitfire cockpit. And running not so much.

I hope have a good and long time here.
Sorry any english errors  :)

Have a good one
chefer

Welcome!

I agree with your observations, but would comment where you mentioned having to shoot at the cons "while they were under your belly". Were you in turning pursuit? If so, you know you have to get your nose ahead of the other plane's flight path before you can land any shots- otherwise your bullets will pass behind the enemy plane. Different guns have different lead requirements. By all means, leave the tracers on.  :D

As far as names are concerned, don't sweat it. Every plane has its advocates/detractors, just fly what you like and don't worry about it.

Welcome!

Ignore the Spit-whiners.  They are just jealous.  Our planes look better, sound better, and we pull more chicks.   :)

Lowering RPM can save fuel.  You can find Pilot's Notes for RAF planes here that show good RPM and Manifold Pressure combinations:  http://www.btinternet.com/~snaffers/usefullnks1.html (http://www.btinternet.com/~snaffers/usefullnks1.html)

We are making a new arena called "Combat Theatre" which will have more historical plane sets.  It is open now with a test setup but soon we will have several new rotating arena setups.  SEA is used for scenarios like Big Week and TOD.  You can learn about them on events.hitechcreations.com

My squadron flies in the TOD and you are welcome to join us as a guest if you want to experience the TOD.  Email me    funkedup@raf303.org

I think lag is a little less than WB.  Lately there have been some network problems, maybe this is the cause?

I use the simplest RAF gunsight, a circle with a dot in the middle.  I'll post a link to the file later.

Another suggestion for gunnery is to read the help files (on http://www.hitechcreations.com/views.html (http://www.hitechcreations.com/views.html)  ) and learn how to adjust your head position.  You can assign a key to move your head "up" when you are shooting so you can see bandits that are under your nose.

Good luck!

Hey Chefer...we have exactly the same specs. I have a Pentium 3 450mhz with a Voodoo 3 16mb.
If you want to get the most out of your aging card I suggest you get the latest (last before it went bankrupt) voodoo 3 driver 1.07. Also, download the overclocker and overclock the bastard. If it goes...who cares!   :D I got my Voodoo 3 2000, which is normally at 143mhz doing 160 mhz. And it doesn't complain.    :D  Mind you, if it does I just kick my computer. By the way, computers hate being kicked.
I can't wait to get my new system!

Chefer -

If you find you're having to shoot too far out in front of the bandit to hit him, try getting a little closer before shooting.  Adjust your convergence in each aircraft too, since you can set each one differently to suit your flying preferences.

Welcome, Chefer.

Nobody has mentioned this part but you want to fly for the Bishops.

The Rooks sleep with their sheep and the Knights are jealous of the Rooks BECAUSE they have sheep to sleep with.

Enjoy! It's a great game.

Welcome chefer.

Excellent comments and observations.

Many of us AH-ers have come over from WB after getting to know a great sim.

I left WB primarily because of lack of support from that 'other' company.

HTC has been great in that regard.

I hope you enjoy it as much as the rest of us do !

Watch your six  :)

Chefer!  Looks like you and I started in AH on the same day  :)

It’s interesting to note that iEN has lost yet another customer owing to the somewhat stringent hardware requirements of WB3. I shouted from the rooftops of the AGW board that they had made a big mistake to design a sim that needed such an exotic rig. But, in keeping with company policy, they did nothing.

Chefer, I’m learning all the time here. I’ve even killed several PT boats with missiles/rockets from a P38L. Don’t be too afraid of dying or of trying new things in the first 1-2 months. I’ve done mostly air to air combat, but I pay close attention to the text buffers and Mission Editor to see what other people are doing.

You have said you like the aural 6 call; The sounds and sound concept in AH are amazing. Go to the sound forum, and download Mitsu’s sounds. Each plane has an individual sound, and if a plane flies past you, you can sometimes tell what it was without seeing it – purely by the sound it made.

All the best, Chef. If you’re anything like me, you’re kicking yourself for having waited so long to come to Aces High.

To Kieran:
Mainly in a close pursuit and tight turns. Thx!

To FunkedUp:
Thx! I'll mail after checking URLs.

To FlyingDuckSittingSwan:
I'll check... But boost video (Voodoo 3000) is not dangerous?
Thx for gunsight. I'll send to you my spit gunsight for your evaluation.

To Eagl:
Thx. Rarily I open fire before d3 in a co-speed pursuit. And my average convergence for that plane is 225.  :)

Hehehehe Toad.
I did my start for bishops but all was so easy! Just kidding gentlemen  :D

Thx Octavius.
Roger that. Nice fly last night.

To Uncle:
I sign below all your words. Pls, send me url for that custom sound pak. I got only AKsound for 2 or 3 planes.
THX.

wow, that's a crappy gunsight....

let's be honest funked , you (and I) have never "aimed" at anything in your life.

besides, we both know that your gunsight is a picture of flava flave wearing an extra large clock around his neck. (think public enemy)

oh yeah welcome chefer

Chefer - best to look in the Aces High sound forum, but I can point you to Mitsu's download, which came in two parts because there was a patch for P47 sounds.

Part one is here (http://www.ah.wakwak.com/~mitsu/244sentai/sounds/msc_setup.exe) and is about 13MB.

Part two is the patch. (http://www.ah.wakwak.com/~mitsu/244sentai/sounds/msc_patch1.exe)

No chefer, it is not "dangerous" to boost (overclock) your Voodoo 3 card. I read that the people who made the card were a bit conservative with the default MHZ settings and so V3 cards are completely safe for another 10 per cent MHZ increase, at least. Like I said, my Voodoo 3 (2000) usually runs at 143 MHZ and I have it to 160 MHZ at the mo and I haven't even heard a sign of protest!  :) If it does do something it will just freeze and you have to reboot. As long as you don;t exagerate and put it from 143 tp 200 MHZ it wont damage the card, and if it does, WHO CARES, they give away a Voodoo 3 with every happy meal where I come from.   :D

so....CRANK THE BASTARD UP!!! MAKE IT WORK FOR ITS MONEY!!! GIVE IT A GOOD KICK UP THE ARSE!!! GO ON, OVERCLOCK THE BUGGER!!

You have to understand that Voodoo 3's are the donkeys of the video card world. They need a good whipping sometimes!

OVERCLOCK IT!!!! DESTROY...KILL...KILL!!!!!! HE'LL LOVE YOU FOR IT!!!

file for overclocking (http://www.voodoofiles.com/926)

p.s. On a serious note, it's winter and it's colder so you can overclock stuff.   ;)
