Title: Calling all Texans!
Post by: rpm on March 02, 2004, 04:45:07 PM
Happy Texas Independence Day!
The Republic of Texas was born on March 2, 1836 when a delegation at Washington-on-the-Brazos adopted the Texas Declaration of Independence. Four days later, the Alamo fell to Santa Ana. On March 27, over 300 unarmed Texans were massacred at Goliad. But on April 21 at the Battle of San Jacinto, Santa Ana met defeat and for almost 10 years Texas was an independent nation.

Also, Happy Birthday Sam Houston!
It's a great day to hail from The Lone Star State, but then so is everyday.

My dad's side of the family has done a lot of geneaology work and we've tracked our roots to Texas.

The first Heards arrived with Sam Houston's second wagon train.  A relative, William Menafee was a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence.  Another, Cpt. William Heard lead Company F, 1st Rgt. of Texas Volunteers at San Jacinto.

A very interesting write-up on Cpt Heard is here: The San Jacinto Veterans Website (http://www.sanjacinto-museum.org/Herzstein_Library/Veteran_Biographies/Browse_Biographies/biographies/default.asp?action=bio&id=3223)

So happy  B-Day Texas!!

PS, I think MT was letting us know that gay cows can be married in San Francisco now.

You know, you're right. I apologize to all you Texans for the little joke. I only have one question.

When you determine the population of Texas - how many times do you count each person?

Happy birthday Texas.

And you gotta wonder why they've got laws in texas banning the sale of vibrators and dildos.....how many have been purchased that it became a problem? ...gives a whole new perspective to queers and steers, it ain't them buying the replacments is it :)
