Hiya gents, Skuzzy says , "a well tuned windows OS should have about 16 processes running in the background" I used to , now I have 49!!! What are the needed 16, and what can I ditch?
My comp now runs at half speed. Its a compaq presario 1.7 with 512ram ,gforce 2mmx, latest servicepack and all the critical updates on Win XP. Heres a partial list: Tsd12Q.exe explorer.exe rmc28.exe (rundll32.exe is listed 2 times at 5.8k ,3.2k) Sycost SYSTEM is listed 3 times at 13.9k ,3.1k, and 3.3k mmod.exe Snync.exe bargains.exe optimize, exe Exshell.exe svaplayer.exe starteak.exe CPQinet.exe. I used to get playable fps 24-30 now 9 HELP, AKelfy

Tough call. It depends on what applcations you have loaded on your computer.
Some of those look like adware or spyware type programs to me. bargains.exe? optimize.exe? exshell.exe? starteak.exe? cpqint.exe? mmod.exe? tsd12q.exe? snync.exe?
All the above look suspect to me. But it does depend on what applications you have loaded. Some applications immediately start some things when they install.
Typically, they are not really needed to run the application. They just think it makes it faster to load and execute.

Do a search for EndItAll2.
It is free and will kill all unneccessary background programs. I always run this propr to logging on.
-
also might want to start/run/msconfig and remove any programs from startup that aren't needed.
under the startup tab.

knock off mspaint (used to capture the screenie) an ieexplore (had bbs up), and you'll see 13 processes. i kill about another 9 processes after startup that aren't critically needed.
and yeah blkviper.com is very helpful.
