I've seen the Javelin video before on the Lockheed website. Judging from the violence of the blast, and the fact that the tank exploded outward rather than absorbing the bulk of the warhead's energy(the turret was launched straight up despite the fact that the missile came in from the top), it almost seems like the target was packed full of explosives--either that or the missile penetrated the turret completely before detonating well inside the crew compartment, which doesn't seem very likely.
Either way, neat vid.

Anyone know the story behind the flyby explosion? I can't find a story about it.
-
All I know is they got out alive..
Which is clearly seen and heard..

Capt. Pork
IIRC the tank was fully combat loaded, fuel ammo...everything.

the flyby looks suspiciously like one done (but apparently the opposite direction... could just be a perspective thing) when there was a documentary crew on board. The F14 was going to do a supersonic flyby for the cameras, an engine failed (uncontained, with compressor stall), and the crew punched out.
