Aces High dont have Grumman F6F-3 Hellcats or F4F-3 Wildcat and we only have F6F-5 Hellcats and F4F-4 Wildcat in AH now.  Also, There are so many aircraft that we dont have it yet like F4U-1A Corsair, Bf-109K, and more.

BTW, I gotta say that Grumman F8F-1 Bearcat is post-war and it did not see action in WWII, too late.

Did you mean what we have in AH?

If so, let me modify it a bit for current AH.

Let me add that this list is an odd assortment of specific aircraft (e.g F6F-3 and A6M3) and general types (e.g. Spitfire and Ju88).  I bolded the specific models only if we have that exact model in AH.  Model differences are sometimes VERY significant, e.g. the Mosquito Mk IV is an unarmed bomber, the Mosquito Mk VI we have in AH is a very well gunned fighter-bomber.  If a general type was mentioned and AH had any version of it I bolded it.

I saved that same mag as well

that story really opened my eyes to the possibilities for the genre. Granted a lot of what was promised in that article is still theory. But CK still changed the community when it took a lot of the talented guys away from AW. Anyone remember how you could strafe the planes parked at the airfields?

FWIW I put the "(sorta)" at the end of my statement as a disclaimer, knowing that some of them aren't the EXACT same models planned by HT & the boys back in the beginning.  Close enough.

Who all here actually flew CK?  I did not.  I came into it just days after it became WB.

What is a "Supermarine Spiteful"?
Title: spitful
Post by: mitchk on March 08, 2004, 09:27:22 AM
A spitful is a later war plane that was more advanced than the spitfire, Not sure it even flew combat in WW2.

Nope.  Woulnd't have saved it this long if I didn't wanna keep it.  :)

Though .... what are you willing to pay?  $1,000?  $10,000  ;)  I might consider that.  "Game of the year, 1995" issue.  This was back when they had a dozen pages of Sim specific game coverage & articles.  Interestingly, in the Sim section is an ad for the "Girlfriend interactive virtual woman."   Ahhh, if only.

I would be willing to post a PDF of the entire article if anyone would lke to read it.  It's a fairly typical fluff preview type article, not really an in-depth review.  Doesn't even really mention GunJam, HiTech, or anyone by name.  (There are some screen shots, one of which shows "Hitech" vs. "Alan" onscreen.)

"To play at the higest resolution ... a Diamond Stealth 64 video card with 2MB of RAM or equivalent [is recommended]."

"Because they are using a heavy-duty Sun Microsystems server with a minimum connection rate of 9600 baud, warping will rarely be a problem."

"The frame rate of the sim on a 486/33 local bus, the minimum recommended system, will never drop below 15 frames a second."

Does anyone have an archive copy of CK squirreled away on a backup somewhere?  I have some very early WB versions, but I don't have any Confirmed Kill.

Bingo same article and magazine here packed up with a good portion of my old Sgt. Rock, Star Wars, Daredevil, Nth Man, GI Joe and Superman comic books.

I even played the game for a bit before it transitioned over to WB.

Also does anyone here remember the game called Desert Fighters that Sierra had going that actually made open beta before getting canned. If so and any of you have it I would like a copy of it. The game was to feature German, British and American aircraft in the North Africa/Mediterranean theater. I had it for a while and it played good in the initial open beta too bad Sierra canned the design team and killed the game.

Here is the only article I have been able to find that tells anything about it.

Desert Fighters by Dynamix (http://pc.ign.com/articles/067/067872p1.html?fromint=1)

why want more of models that we have now? isn't 4 F4u's enough? or 5 109's?

get some new planes we dont have first, before re-hashing something we can use already.

Sierra, what a bunch of losers. Im sure Donkey Kong IV will be a big hit or whatever crap they are working on.

I had the CGW mag before I got into online sims, I remember thinking "wow, that would be so cool to fight online vs real players...".

I got that CGW mag after I got into online flight sims.  I remember thinking "wow, this thing is going to be way cooler than Air Warrior".

And then Air Warrior was canned.

Oh, and Sierra isn't so bad.  They're the group that published "Silent Hunter" and Papyrus' "NASCAR Racing" series.
