After reading some articles and user opinions I bought a NEC ND-2500. Fast and good burner.

While they might be available, they will not be seen in large #'s Hell 8X Drives have been out for months and I have rarely seen any 8X media.

Bought my self a NEC 2500 like Staga, have had it for about a week, one of the quite few 8x buring burners, works great with every CD and DVD I've tried. Can't find any 8x DVD's though, only 4x's.
4x fast enough though, DVD ripped a 2 and a half hour long movie in just over 30 minutes. It included first copying the original DVD to the HD.

Best program out there for backing up dual layer dvds
-
I've been using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink which uses my copy of Nero to burn after it's done shrinking. Been pretty happy with this setup so far. Using the Plextor PX-504A (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=513366&sku=P67-1052%20P), which only does DVD+R/RW, but it's a Plextor drive and it's cheap.
-
Not really any need to use DVD Decrypter....Shrink does it for you........ unless Shrink wont decrypt it for you.........which happens very rarely
-
Yeah, I noticed that, but have been using decrypter anyway. It wasn't broke...

not that i would ever think of doing this but, does the shrink program allow one to rip off rentals or just back up purchased dvd's, or is there any difference. Or do I have to buy the rip program?
-
Yep, it'll backup rentals as well as any other DVD.

I got a sony on sale right before everyone else started making the +/- R/RW drives and the only thing I don't like about it is that the cheapo backup sofware it comes with does not do incremental backups. Other than that, the drive is great and the software bundle was nice, even though I ended up sticking with the version of Nero I already had.
