Squadron Signal Publication 1155 "Il-2 Stormovik in action" has an identical bird holding a sash on an IL-2 Type 3 of Ivan F. Pavlov in the 6th Guards Assault Regiment.  But that doesn't really answer your question as to the significance of the bird  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)
