****ING XP!!!!!!!!! I went into the My Pictures folder to do burn a CD within explorer. So I clicked select all on the folders I wanted to burn - had it cued up in the taskbar - and then decided I didn't want to burn them. Do I said delete files from the cue. Then the CD Writing Wizard comes up with a box asking if you want to save the files to burn at a later time or delete the files that are waiting to be written. I didn't want them burnt - so I said delete them. LITTLE DID I KNOW - that it actually trashed every single ****ing picture and file I had selected - regardless if it was a movie or a jpeg so I can't view them anymore! What kind of gangster **** is this????
HELP!!!
-
Did you check the trash bin? If they are not in there you are in trouble...
-
They aren't to be found.....I still see the files...its just that PS and whatever else comes up doesn't think they are good anymore.
-
Yeah. It sounds like it's all Windows XP's fault. They only asked you numerous times if you wanted to delete the stupid files.
-
If thats the case - why do they all still exist in the pictures folder - thumbnails and all and just not work?
-
Wolfala
Did it change the file extension on them?
Are they no longer .jpg etc?
-
From what I can tell they are all still jpeg - their size has not changed - i did rename with the dos 3 letter to no effect. Every file cued - whether a zip, avi or jpg comes up completely ****ed.
-
My bad. You didn't say they were still visible. You said "trashed", which I mistakenly took in it's literal meaning.
-
hmm try moving them to a new folder? Also try opening them from a pic viewer instead of double clicking on them?
You could also try doing a system restore.
-
try to select them again and go ahead and finish the burn. they might end up in good shape on the cd, so you can replace them.
it's worth a try and the worst that could happen is you are out the time it takes to burn them.
-
Wolf
The system restore sounds drastic but it really is not and may help if all else fails.
-
Leeme try to burn them and see if I luck out. I did a restore to a point yesterday - had no effect. Did a new login - tech support is useless - on the phone with him right now.
-
OK burn with the current batch didn't work.
-
Woflala, just use this as a new opprotunity to go get more porn... I mean, are we talking really rare, vintage stuff? :D
-
Backup?
-
None - they were offloaded from the camera.
-
file size for the good file and the bad file are IDENTICAL - yet I shipped a good file and a bad file to another computer - good 1 worked. Bad 1 did not.
-
Have you tried running "system restore"
from the Help Support section?
-
Restore has no effect.
-
I don't think it is an XP issue. I can not conceive of a methodology that would leave the files but corrupt them, or, since the file size is the same, would change the file association. Did you begin the write and then cancel the operation?
-
Wolfala,
Try Sandisk's Rescue Pro.
Rescue Pro (http://www.sandisk.com/retail_rescuePRO.html)
You should be able to recover all your old photos if you still have your media.
Don't know if it will work on your hard drives though.
Good luck.
Edit:
Try this instead:
FileRecovery Pro (http://www.lc-tech.com/Filerecovery_pro.htm)
Just found it looking at their site.
-
The files were being copied to the cue - it was taking forever so I cancelled the operation. The remaining files in cue I deleted as per option. I checked the log - all files that were cued were modified at the same time - 1143 am. Files that were not selected in cue were not affected. It is an XP issue - roxio wrote the code for the cd burning within XP - i'm not talking about using Nero or a 3rd party - this is the burning software that is native to XP if you have none other installed.
-
es, but what I am saying is that it was a GPF error. If you had some files being converted for the cue, and killed it mid stream, that is a bad thing. I don't know what it could have done, but that is a bad point in the procedure to attemt to abort.
-
What was done was done - whats the procedure to undo it? Thats my concern.
-
Problem solving 101-figure out what caused the problem.
If the files are the exact same size, then the chances are they are not corrupt. If they will not open, check to make sure that the file assosiactions were not changed. If it is not that, then you probalby have an error in a pointer to the files, and I do not know how to fix that in a windows environment.
-
Ok there is a catch...I sent 1 good copy of a file over to another computer along with the non-working copy. The non working copy did not work on the other machine. The good copy did...so i'm not sure where that leaves me exactly.

OSX
nuff said :)

If they are unrecoverable, just send an apply form to the FDB Squad. Once you're in you'll be able to replenish your porn pics folder in a second... ;)

LOL :D
-
lmao deSelys.. prolly very true and it'll only cost him a six-pack

I've had this happen before to one of our users here at work. I don't recall the remedy right off hand, let me dig around a bit.
-
Thank you - please keep me posted.
-
sorry that your last memory of your drunken college coed romp was deleted. I would have love to seen them. LOL
JK
Seriously I had the same problem but this one had to do with WifeXP. She deleted all my PSD templates for the site I designed for her business. I had to redo about 30 hours worth of work from scratch.

Oh funny story,
MomXP struck today. Apparently while I was teaching at the airport - mom told me we had the power die. Anyway, the UPS was making its usual noise and she called my dad asking what to do. As per usual, he said nothing because she would **** something up. So something must've gotten at her because when I came home I found all the power cords unplug'd, the keyboard unplug'd and about 1/2 a dozzen USB things unplug'd. My only response was "mom...was the computer off???" She gave me this blank innocent look....
I then went in and had an "al bundy" cry.
-
LOL wolf...better get a lock on your door.
-
lol MomAck :D
-
Looks like MomXP is uber and should be perked! :D
