why not? When trying to capture a field, players can die/repawn/and be airborn(or tax around with breaks on strafing troops)again in under 15 seconds! Realistic engine start would fix that (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Be glad for the 15 seconds (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
In some OTHER "sim", they just press e, and start rolling down the runway. The spit can get airborne in a 1/4 of the time.

Coyote,
While I agree that I'd like to see more engine management come into play, that isn't going to happen. What would help though is if everyone had to start in the hanger and taxi to the runway.
Thanks,

That sounds like a better idea, Sharky. They also need to work on the temp and oil pressure gauges.

heheh and i'm looking forward to see tons of fighters on the runway cranking their engines over and over....

Actually I wish that were possible. I understand HTC's stance on things like that. Most people would find that tedious. I'm the kind of guys that likes all the elements of the flight. Engine starting, management etc I think only add to the immersion. I would love to see a reason to actually operate the engine IAW the pilots manual instead or WOT all the time. Oh and yes I almost always start in the hanger and taxi (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I also would like more of that sort of detail. Already I occasionally run out of gas when a little engine management would have helped out. Though frustrating at times, it adds to the sim for me.
OTOH, we are already barraged online with questions by newbies that either don't realize they have a readme file in the AH directory or they simply refuse to take the time. Making it hard to start the engine would just make it more frustating for them and more painful for the rest of us.
I think it would add to the sim, cure the instant respawn, and with appropriate backfire and engine start sounds and smoke be really really cool. But I doubt we'll see it just because of the complexity factor. Other considerations would be getting more planes and sea ops before more realistic starts.
But it could also be made a toggle. Get the neat-o smoke and sounds with a realistic start or have it as it is now for the "simple" start.

<opens MS CFS and hops in a pony and plays with the engine a little> yup that would get me to be a paying player again

I agree it sounds a good idea on paper but who would want to learn how to start each & every plane in AH. I'm not saying I'm against it but each plane might have it's own start up sequence. The Pilot's notes for the Typhoon for instance recommend after the initial start. "Run up the engine to clear out the cylinders. Stop engine and get a member of the ground crew to wipe the oil off the windshield" Yea right.
Like I said I'm not knocking the idea I just think there are more important things to look at first.

anyone remember this one?

Slightly off topic but....
I'd just be happy if the engine sound implementation was more like MS CFS.
Trying to make a truly realistic eng.wav file that transitions to the others is almost impossible. Sound=Immersion !
Without even discussing arena setups..
Before that please..please...
next version: tuned FM's, more planes
1.05: carriers, pac planes and shoreline
1.06: more vehicles (air 'n ground campaigns)
1.07: early war planes
and somewhere..new sound setup

Sierra Pro Pilot: Starting engine(s) checklist:
1. Activate battery
2. Select fuel tank(s)
3. Set magnetos
4. Set pitch and mixture to takeoff
5. Set fuel boost pump to active
6. Start engines
Personally I don't mind going through all that just to get off the ground. The reason I don't mind is because it's a realistic flight sim, not a combat sim with our MA. For the MA near instant starts are just fine. For historical battles, I can see having a longer start procedure as normal. One catch: doing the code to have both available as arena options. That alone will cause a huge delay in getting any version out.
Plus, you'd have to re-do every cockpit to equip every plane with those switches and gauges. If (when?) actual historical cockpits are put into place, it could be done then. I don't see any reason for it in the MA, unless you want the whiners to get VERY loud. Enough people are whining about BUFF guns, Charlie-model Hawgs, and the Hispano cannons.
I'm just going to sit back and wait for 1.04. When it's released I'll have fun with it just like you will. Then I'll wait for 1.05, 1.06, and any other version release. If I've got input on anything, I'll post it here just as normal.
I don't mind having a few things set-up just because of game-play. But if you're going to do something accurately, try to do it right. Forget the whines, the complaints, and the flames. If you did it right, and got it right, then there's nothing to cry Wolf about.

Ok I am thinking this
I have 2 hours to play tonite. I am looking for a close field up front to get some multi sorties in. Wait HTC has implemented full start up procedures. Hang on gotta go download the full manual for each plane I am going to fly today. Hmmm on modem this could take some time in .pdf format. Ok got 1 plane downloaded to fly. Ok the warmup procedure says it takes 20 mins to get the engine temp up to operating range. I can't find the keystroke to get the mech to add some diesel fuel to thin the oil out to make warmup procedure down to 10 mins. Wow look there are only 5 people flying. Ok going to grab a sandwich to eat only 15 mins of warmup left. Come back in .. WTF I am in the tower again. Ask what happened.. someone bombed me on the ground. Geeze I don't have the time to fly now won't even get the plane partially warmed up.
I am a realism freak too. I would love to have a sim on my machine that is a WWII prop plane that is 100% full realism for flying offline. That would rock. But to fly online in a game it would be self defeating IMHO. I would like some more engine controls myself. Maybe after this sim fills out a little more some of the scenerios could have an option for the server to enable your FE to have full engine management. But in the MA setting I don't think it is a viable solution.

I'm a realism fan but I agree with every word of Rocket's and flakbait's posts.
Besides..
If you are capturing a field, it's simple... just flatten it, then capture it.
No hangers=no respawn.

hi all:
how are we going to do the walk around to make sure every thing is ok.

Out of curiosity how many of you do the "walk" between the hangar, map room and the tower in real time??
Thought so.

I still wish I could hop in my WC-21 to hop between bases. This "magical rocket man" stuff is BS (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
I do use realtime, I want a small, generic starting procedure (and a mixture lever)
